Chapter 199 What on Earth Does Martin Want?

After sending the pesky Martin and Charlotte away, Patricia felt instant relief. The air she breathed seemed even fresher than before. Randy took Patricia's hand with a beaming smile.

"Mommy, since you sent Daddy away, can I sleep with you tonight?"

Patricia nodded emphatically. "Of course! Tonight you'll sleep with Charles and Fannie, and I'll sleep with Jade."

"Yay!" Randy almost jumped for joy. Randy loved his older brother, and his sister, very much.

After dinner, while Patricia was tidying up the kitchen, Charles methodically guided Fannie and Randy for their baths, even picking out pajamas for Randy to wear.

Randy was in high spirits, his smile never fading.

It wasn't until he lay in bed that he suddenly remembered something important. He rushed into the bathroom with the children's phone, locking the door before calling Martin.

Martin was in the study, dealing with company matters. He raised an eyebrow when Randy's call came in, answered with speakerphone on, and talked while continuing his work.

"Randy, what's up?"

Randy glanced at the bathroom door to make sure it was locked, then covered his lips with his hand, lowering his voice to say, "Daddy, don't forget to send a message to Mommy."

"What was that?" Martin was fully engrossed in his work and didn't register the question right away; his response was slow and confused.

Randy knew he would forget. He rolled his eyes dramatically and said with a hint of anger, "Have you decided to stop pursuing Mom? Have you forgotten the sweet nothings saved in the memo on your phone?"

It finally hit Martin: "No, I haven't forgotten. I'll send it in a bit!"

"You better not forget! Don't think you're out of the woods just because that Hunter guy left! He’ll be back once he’s dealt with his business in the States. If you don't win Mom over while he’s gone, there’ll be no chance for regrets later."

Martin's mouse movements halted. The alarm that had just been quieted started 'beeping' once more. Hearing nothing but silence, Randy thought he wasn’t taking his words seriously and, stomping his foot in urgency.

"Are you even listening to me? I'm the only one in the entire family supporting you. If it weren't for wanting to reunite with Mom, considering what you've done to her in the past, I wouldn't be on your side. If you don't start taking this seriously, I’m washing my hands of you."

Such words hardly seemed as though they should come from a four-year-old child. Granted, the divorce from Patricia was indeed a mistake. But it wasn’t so unforgivable, so utterly inexcusable, was it?

Besides, he did give Patricia a hundred million dollars in compensation. Even though Debbie ended up embezzling that money, his intentions were good. Why must everyone focus solely on his mistakes? Who is without fault? Hadn't he seen the error of his ways and turned over a new leaf?

Frustrated by his silence, Randy nearly burst with anger, her voice unconsciously getting louder. "Are you even listening to me?"

Martin's eardrums nearly burst. "I hear you; I hear you! I know I did wrong before. Can’t I try to make amends, to salvage the situation? I’ll send your mom a message right now, immediately!"

Randy nodded, satisfied, "That's more like it! I'm hanging up then, text me if there's anything!"

"I got it!" Martin's voice was full of resignation.

After ending the call, Martin flipped through his memo, where all the sweet messages Randy had saved for him were listed. He glanced through them briefly, then copied and pasted three messages to send to Patricia.

‘If loving you is wrong, then I don’t want to be right. If being correct means living without you, then I’d rather be wrong for the rest of my life. If I have to set a timeline for this love, I hope it's ten thousand years.’

‘I love your appearance, but I cherish your soul even more. Even if I can't make you happy, I still wish for happiness to be by your side. As long as you're happy and joyful, that's all that matters to me.’

‘I really like you! I like your nose, your eyes, and even the way you often get angry at me. I truly, really like you!’

After sending the message, Martin lost all interest in work and kept an eye on his phone, waiting for Patricia's reply.

Although the text was something Randy found online, he felt drawn to it, feeling it matched his current mood perfectly and was quite fitting for the occasion— surely Patricia would be touched by it!

Unfortunately, despite his anticipation, he never received a response from Patricia. Could it be that such sincere and heartfelt words weren't enough to move Patricia?

Meanwhile, after tidying up the kitchen, Patricia took a bath, leaving her phone on the coffee table, having not seen Martin's message at all. By the time she finished her tasks and lay down in bed, it was already 9 p.m.

Out of habit, she turned on her phone, preparing to browse through the news, and that's when she saw Martin's message. Assuming it was an inquiry about Randy, she clicked on it, reading the contents.

Her hand shook so violently that her phone dropped and hit her right on the nose, bringing tears to her eyes from the pain. Patricia rubbed her nose and picked up the phone again, reading each word carefully.

It was another love message. He had sent her one during the day, and now again? Could it be another mistake?

Feeling disinclined to respond, Patricia sent Martin a brief message: "Randy is staying over tonight and I'll take him to the hospital with me, when I leave for work in the morning."

As Martin stared at his phone, deep in thought and barely keeping his eyes open, a 'ding' from his phone jolted him awake. He immediately checked the message. It was from Patricia.

But there was nothing of use in it. Just as he was feeling disappointed, another message from Patricia came in.

‘Get some rest, and stop reading useless stuff online.’

Lucky for him, the message was meant for him. Any other woman would have likely laughed at him. Martin was puzzled, racking his brain but unable to decipher the meaning. What was this ‘useless stuff’ she mentioned?

He, who prided himself on his intelligence, was now seriously doubting his IQ for the first time.
After pondering for a while without success, Martin sent a ‘?’ back to Patricia. Her reply came quickly.

‘Go to sleep, good night!’

He message left Martin even more confused. What did she mean? Because of his questioning, Martin wasn’t able to sleep, spending the entire night trying to understand, but without any luck.

The next day, Martin got up early, dropped by the office, and then drove to the hospital. After he left, Charlotte took the hair she had obtained from Fannie and rode to the DNA testing center.

"How long before I get the results?"

The staff member was puzzled, unsure why there had recently been so many requests for urgent paternity tests. Pushing his glasses up on the bridge of his nose, he answered truthfully.

"If you pay extra, the results can be ready in as fast as three hours."

Without hesitation, Charlotte paid the money. "I'll come back for the results in three hours."

"Okay!" The staff member nodded, took the samples from both individuals, and entered the laboratory.
