Chapter 898 Peaceful Times
After watching the video, Martin's face was like stone, no change at all.
Randy, looking puzzled, said, "Dude, I pulled up all the hospital surveillance. Found a black mole on his Adam's apple. With that, we should nab him quick."
Martin just shook his head and handed the phone back, "No need, man. He's in cahoots with the guy who tried to off Charles last night. The hitman spilled everything. The guy who hired him is the CEO of Summit Innovations Group. Dude's got severe schizophrenia and thinks Charles is the reason his company’s tanking. So, he hired someone to take him out."
Randy's eyes lit up, "Did you catch him?"
Martin shook his head again, "Nah, he offed himself out of guilt. By the time we got there, he was hanging. Found medical records and a stash of cash in his closet."
Something felt off to Randy, but he couldn't put his finger on it.
Randy went quiet for a bit.
Martin said, "Without the boss man hiring them, they probably won't make another move."
Randy let out a sigh of relief, "That's a relief!"
As long as Charles's enemy was dealt with, Charles should be safe.
Martin gave a quiet reminder, "I didn't tell your mom about this. Don't want her stressing out. Keep it on the down-low."
Randy nodded, "Got it, won't say a word."
Martin nodded and patted his shoulder, "Let's head back in. Don't want your mom getting suspicious."
"Alright," Randy agreed.
As they walked back inside, Martin asked, "Hannah up yet?"
Randy nodded, "Yeah, those sleeping pills knocked her out good. Had a doc check her this morning, said she'd wake up once the meds wore off. Just gotta avoid those pills in the future."
Martin finally relaxed a bit.
When they came in from the balcony, Patricia was wiping Charles's hands and face with a warm towel, tears streaming down her face.
Patricia cried, "My poor boy, how did it come to this?"
She still couldn't believe it was real.
Since Hunter's death, their family hadn't faced such a tragedy.
Martin walked over, put his arm around her shoulder, and gently patted her back, "It's okay, Charles will wake up. He's always been the least of our worries."
Randy, who was more of a handful, stood silently to the side.
The hospital room was getting crowded.
Carol and Maximilian left after a bit.
Around noon, Hannah finally woke up after sleeping all night.
Since she hadn't woken up, the sofa bed was still out, and Randy had made sure everyone kept it down so she could rest.
When Hannah realized she had slept until noon, she almost jumped off the sofa bed.
Hannah asked, "I slept for fifteen hours?"
She remembered going to sleep around nine last night.
She had slept straight through until after noon the next day.
Patricia had been dragged out to eat by Martin, leaving Randy alone in the room.
Seeing her awake, he smiled, "Guess you were really tired. How you feeling? Any discomfort?"
Hannah shook her head, "After that sleep, I feel way better!"
These days, all Hannah could think about was Charles. She was eating like a bird, sleeping even worse, and her temples were throbbing until yesterday.
After that solid sleep, she felt way better, and her head wasn't pounding anymore.
Randy let out a quiet sigh of relief, "That's awesome! Freshen up a bit. My folks went to grab lunch, and we'll chow down together later."
Spending all this time together, they’d gotten pretty tight.
He knew Hannah was head over heels for Charles!
And Charles was totally into Hannah.
Since Violet vanished, Charles had shut himself off and hadn't been into any other girl.
Now that he’d found real love, Randy was genuinely stoked for him.
Anyone Charles liked, Randy would naturally treat with the same respect.
Hannah nodded, got up from the sofa bed, folded the blanket, stashed it in the closet, and expertly folded the sofa bed.
Randy wanted to help, but Hannah waved him off and quickly folded it herself.
When she came out of the bathroom after freshening up, Patricia and Martin had just walked back in.
Stella was about to leave.
Hannah looked at Stella, surprised, "Why are you here? Didn't you have plans today?"
Stella grinned, "I did! But I wrapped it up quick and came over! Couldn't leave you hanging, so I came to keep you company."
Hannah was really touched.
Even though she hadn't known Stella for long, Stella was genuinely good to her.
Randy, while setting up the lunch Patricia and Martin had brought on the coffee table, asked, "Had lunch yet? Wanna join us?"
Stella glanced at the food and couldn't help but swallow.
She was starving.
She had rushed over after finishing her tasks, skipping breakfast, and had been hungry all morning.
Seeing her like this, Randy knew she was hungry and smiled, "Perfect timing, my folks brought three lunches, so there's one for you."
Patricia stayed quiet.
She opened her mouth like she was gonna say something but then didn't.
The three lunches were actually one for Hannah and two for Randy.
Guys always eat more than girls.
But since Stella was hungry, Randy would just have to eat a little less; he couldn't let Stella go hungry.
Hearing Randy's words, Stella's eyes lit up. She pulled Hannah to sit on the sofa, handed one lunch to Hannah, and then started devouring her own.
As she ate, she couldn't help but say, "This is so good, really good."
She hadn't thought it was this good before.
Randy couldn't help but chuckle at the food crumbs on her lips.
Seeing that she was almost done with her lunch and still hadn't noticed the crumbs, Randy pulled a tissue from the coffee table and reached out to wipe them off.
Randy said, "Eat slower, or you'll choke."
Stella didn't listen and kept eating her lunch.
After lunch, Patricia and Martin stayed in the room for a bit longer before heading out.
Stella wanted to stay with Hannah and didn't want to leave.
Randy also insisted on staying to take care of Charles.
So the room was left with just Hannah, Stella, Randy, and Charles lying in the hospital bed.
Hannah sat by the bed, holding Charles's hand, talking to him like usual.
Stella and Randy sat side by side on the sofa.
Stella was so tired that she fell asleep sitting there, her head slowly leaning onto Randy's shoulder.
Randy glanced at her, and to make her more comfortable, he slid down a bit, making himself sit lower than Stella.
Sunlight streamed through the floor-to-ceiling windows on the balcony, wrapping them in a warm glow, creating an unexpectedly serene and peaceful scene.
