Chapter 7
Facing Martin's questioning, Patricia calmly extended her hand and smiled, "Mr. Langley, hello! I'm the cardiothoracic professor you hired, Patricia. Nice to meet you."
Martin remained in shock.
"How can you be Professor Watson?" he asked in disbelief.
Patricia concealed her hatred for him and answered graciously, "I have a name, Amelia Watson. Patricia Watson is my real name."
"You are Amelia." Martin frowned, his face darkening.
The professor he had gone to great lengths to hire was actually Patricia!
Seeing his expression, Patricia felt very satisfied. She maintained her smile, assuring, "Don't worry. I'll do my utmost to cure Randy."
Martin's face grew even darker, and he dragged her towards the door.
"Mommy." Randy, fearing Martin might harm Patricia, anxiously tried to follow.
Debbie immediately reached out to stop Randy, but he slapped her hand away. "Get away, don't touch me."
Debbie's face darkened with pain. At this moment, she really wished she could strangle Randy.
Seeing Randy trying to follow, Patricia quickly said, "I need to discuss your condition with your daddy. Be a good boy and wait here, okay? I'll be right back."
Hearing her words, Randy, though worried, obediently sat back on the bed.
Debbie gritted her teeth. Her carefully maintained elegance nearly collapsed, and her loathing almost spilled from her eyes.
She cursed in her heart, 'Four years! I've been taking care of this little brat for four years, yet he still values Patricia more! Does he even remember she abandoned him right after he was born?'
After dragging Patricia out, Martin asked, "Patricia, remember what you promised me yesterday?"
Patricia calmly replied, "Calm down, Martin. I didn't come to take Randy away. Once his heart condition is cured, I'll leave and never come back. I don't wanna bring any changes to Randy's peaceful life."
Martin looked at her suspiciously, clearly not fully convinced. "Really?"
Patricia's expression remained unchanged. "Now, Randy is just my patient. And you, Mr. Langley, are my patient's father. That's it."
Martin stared at her for a while. Seeing that she didn't seem to be lying, he reluctantly let her go.
"Remember what you said. Don't break your promise, or you'll regret it," he threatened.
Patricia glanced at him and then turned to leave.
Her final look left Martin puzzled.
Patricia returned to the ward, which had already been cleaned by the nurse.
Seeing Patricia return, Randy immediately jumped off the bed and hugged her leg tightly, sweetly calling out, "Mommy!"
Feeling Debbie's warning gaze, Patricia crouched down, gently touched Randy's face, and said softly, "I'm not your mommy! I'm your attending physician. My name is Amelia Watson."
But Randy firmly believed that Patricia was his mother and refused to listen to her explanation.
"You're my mommy. I saw your photo from Great-grandpa. I know you are."
After speaking, Randy pulled a photo from under his pillow.
Then, he said to Patricia, "Look, this is my mommy, and she looks exactly like you."
Patricia took the photo and looked at it.
It was a picture taken the year she and Martin divorced, with Gregory Langley and Jessica Langley. Gregory and Jessica were sitting in the front while she stood behind them, bending over with her hands on their shoulders, smiling happily like a child.
She was surprised that after all these years, Gregory and Jessica still kept this photo.
Feeling a bit upset, Patricia wanted to say something but didn't know where to start.
Seeing her being silent, Randy pointed to her in the photo and said, "Mommy, look, it's you, right?"
Patricia forced herself to hold back her sorrow and, with a bit of harshness, said lightly, "We do look very alike, but I'm not her. Many people in the world who look alike in some way. It's just a coincidence."
But Randy didn't believe it. "If you're not my mommy, why didn't you say so in the parking lot that day?"
Patricia took a deep breath, having already prepared an excuse. "Because I knew you were Randy, and you ran away from the hospital. I was afraid you wouldn't go back, so I lied to you."
Seeing Patricia unwilling to admit it, Randy began to cry with his reddened eyes.
"Why don't you admit you're my mommy? You don't like me? You don't wanna have a son like me? I promise I'll be a good boy, and I won't throw things again. Mommy, please, don't push me away, okay?"
His words were like a sharp knife, cutting into Patricia's heart.
She almost couldn't help telling the truth.
But remembering her promise to Martin, Patricia hardened her heart and said, "Randy, don't cry. You're a very good boy, and I'd love to have a handsome son like you. But I really am not your mommy. If you don't mind, I can be your godmother, and I'll take you as my godson. What do you say?"
Randy's barely calmed emotions erupted again. He pushed Patricia away, his eyes bloodshot, his little face twisted.
"You're all liars. You all hate me and don't want me. Go away! I don't wanna see you..." While shouting, Randy yanked out his IV needle.
Blood immediately spurted out, splashing onto Patricia's face.
The warm blood jolted Patricia awake. She suddenly felt that Randy's situation might not be as simple as it seemed.
Randy began to smash things again.
Martin immediately ran over, holding Randy tightly, and shouted to Debbie, "Now!"
Debbie swiftly took out a sedative and forcibly injected it into Randy.
Randy instantly calmed down, going limp in Martin's arms and falling into a deep sleep.
Then, Debbie quickly stopped Randy's bleeding.
The ward finally quieted down.
Martin glared viciously at the shocked Patricia. "If I had known this, I wouldn't have brought you back."
His cold and harsh words snapped Patricia back to reality.
Patricia got up from the ground, grabbed Martin's collar fiercely, and angrily questioned, "Tell me, what is wrong with Randy? How the hell did he become like this?"
This wasn't just a bad temper! It seemed like bipolar disorder!
When Patricia realized this, her face turned deathly pale.
