Chapter 1034 The Secret Can't Be Kept

Austin was distraught, standing guard outside the ICU without eating or drinking for an entire day.

He knew that this matter could no longer be concealed.

If he continued to keep silent, it would seem like he was deliberately hiding something.

He calculated the time in his mind, thinking that Lassie would probably call for the second time soon, so he called her first.

It was 8 PM in Country H at that moment.

In Country Z, it was 8 AM.

Except for special circumstances, Carter and Lassie always went to bed early and got up early, so Lassie should be awake by now.

He dialed the number right on time.

"Austin! How do you have time to call me at this hour? Isn't the lab busy?"

Lassie's tone was relaxed, clearly in a good mood.

Austin's lips moved, and after a long while, he managed to squeeze out a sentence. "Mom, something happened to Dad."

There was a moment of silence on the other end of the phone, then Lassie asked in a trembling voice, "What happened? Did the collaboration fall through?"

Austin struggled to say, "No, it's not that! Dad fell down the stairs!"

There was a noise on the other end, followed by Lassie's exclamation. "What did you say?"

Austin said, "Dad fell down the stairs yesterday and hurt the back of his head. After several hours of emergency treatment, he is still not out of danger and is under observation in the ICU."

"So, when I called him yesterday, he was already in trouble?"

"Yes! I didn't want you to worry, so I didn't dare to tell you! I knew that if I didn't tell you now, I wouldn't be able to hide it for long! Mom, I'm sorry, it's my fault, I didn't take good care of Dad. I…"

At this point, Austin choked up again.

There was no sound on the other end of the phone for a long time.

Austin thought Lassie couldn't take the shock and something had happened to her, so he couldn't help but shout, "Mom, Mom! What's wrong? Don't scare me! Mom."

Lassie murmured, "No wonder, he has never been out of touch for so long."

She had been uneasy all day yesterday.

She had never called Carter dozens of times in one day before.

Because Carter had always been very measured in his actions, the first thing he did when he arrived somewhere was to call her.

In his spare time, he would also text her to ask about the family.

Yesterday, when she was lying in bed resting, she suddenly woke up with a sense of panic.

She didn't know where this panic came from, she just felt uneasy, so she called Carter. When Carter didn't answer, she kept calling him.

Later, Austin answered the phone and said Carter was drunk, so she felt relieved.

She never thought her premonition was correct.

Carter was really in trouble.

When she woke up from her dream, it should have been the time when Carter had the accident.

"Where are you now? Is it Country H? Which hospital in Country H?"

Lassie asked a lot of questions in one breath.

Austin nodded, then realized Lassie couldn't see him, and said, "Yes! We're at St. Francis Hospital in Country H. ICU observation room."

Lassie immediately said, "I'm coming right away, wait for me!"

Austin was afraid she would tell the Langley family and the Parker family about this, so he quickly stopped her. "Mom, Dad's condition is still uncertain for now. Don't alarm too many people, come by yourself. As for Shirley and Violet, Violet is old enough to take care of herself. Leave Shirley to the Parker family or the Langley family."

After the incident where Violet tried to sell Shirley to human traffickers, he knew what kind of person Violet was.

He absolutely couldn't let Shirley and Violet stay together alone.

Otherwise, if something happened, it would be too late to regret it.

Lassie understood Austin's intention and nodded, "Okay! I know! Book me the earliest flight, I'll leave as soon as I arrange for Shirley."

After ending the call, Austin let out a long sigh, leaned back on the bench, and rubbed his face hard with his hands.

After a long time, he took out another phone from his pocket.

He had many phones.

Except for the phone numbers used to contact family and school, which were registered under his real name, the rest of the numbers were bought on the black market.

Some numbers were used to contact Violet.

Some were used to contact Tina.

He took out the phone used to contact Tina and sent her a message.

[My father had an accident and is now in the ICU. In the coming days, people from the Moore family, the Langley family, and the Parker family might come to Country H one after another. Just in case, except for meals, make sure Hannah sleeps all the time! Do not let her step out of the door. The Langley family and the Parker family are very smart, and now that we're in the same country, if we're not careful, they might find out. I've worked so hard to get to this point, no matter what, I can't let them know I've hidden Hannah here.]

Tina's reply came quickly.

[I know what to do.]

After a moment, Tina sent another message.

[We're currently in the capital of Country H, should we move to another small city?]

Austin thought for a moment and finally said, [Okay! But you must move within twelve and a half hours! My mother is coming soon, and Country H is too small, anything could happen. I don't want you to run into her on the road.]

Tina replied immediately.

[I understand! We don't have much stuff; we can leave after a simple packing.]

[Good! Remember to have Hannah wear a hat and mask.]

[I'll! Don't worry; with me around, no one will find her.]

[Good! I trust you the most!]

After ending the chat, Austin cautiously deleted all the messages.

On the other side, Tina also deleted the chat history thoroughly.

Tina moved quickly, and within ten hours, she had moved from the capital to a nearby small city.

After receiving Tina's message, Austin felt a huge sense of relief.

At midnight the next day, Lassie got off the plane and took a taxi directly to the hospital.

Carter was still lying in the ICU.

Austin hadn't eaten properly for several days. He was so hungry that he ended up eating a few bites of bread. He looked extremely haggard, with stubble on his face, dark circles around his eyes, and bloodshot eyes.

It was obvious that he hadn't rested for several days and nights.

Lassie looked at him with heartache. "Austin, thank you for everything during this time!"

Hearing her words, Austin felt even more guilty.

"No, it's my fault! I didn't take good care of Dad, that's why he fell down the stairs. It's all my fault."

Lassie said, "It's not your fault! Where is your father? Where is he now?"

Austin took her to the ICU door and pointed to Carter inside the glass. "It's been almost three days, and Dad is still not out of danger!"

Lassie looked in the direction he was pointing.

When she saw Carter lying there with tubes all over his body, the tears she had been holding back finally came pouring out.
