Chapter 1146 Recognition

Lassie was beyond furious. She couldn't hold back any longer and decided to reveal the truth.

After all, her purpose for coming here was to take Hannah back.

If she didn't help Hannah resolve her inner turmoil, Hannah would be trapped in her dreams forever, never waking up.

She had been here long enough and couldn't waste any more time.

She had to take Hannah back immediately.

Lisa looked at her in horror, unable to believe what she was hearing. "How... how do you know?"

Lassie stared at her coldly, a sneer on her lips. "How do I know? Because I am Hannah's biological mother, and Austin's adoptive mother."

Lisa pointed a trembling finger at Lassie. "You... you..."

Lassie looked at her with disdain. "Yes, I am Mrs. Moore! You've lived in Sunset Bay for decades; surely you know the Moore family of Sunset Bay?"

Lisa's legs gave out, and she nearly collapsed to the floor.

"The Moore family of Sunset Bay? You... you are..." She was so shaken she couldn't finish her sentence.

Seeing her like this only fueled Lassie's anger.

Her daughter had been bullied and mistreated by such a cowardly woman.

The more Lassie thought about it, the angrier she became. She couldn't help but slap Lisa several times.

Lisa was completely silent now, not daring to make a sound even as she was hit. She could only stand there quietly.

"Austin entrusted Hannah to you, giving you so much money every year, hoping you would treat her well. Instead, you pocketed all the money and abused her daily. You ungrateful, money-grubbing scum. I swear, I will make you pay for every bit of pain you inflicted on my daughter. I won't let you off easily. I'll make you wish you were dead."

Lisa collapsed to the floor.

She desperately tried to deny it. "No, I didn't. I just wanted to discipline her. She was so disobedient, and I was just trying to teach her. I didn't mean to abuse her. I didn't."

Lassie looked down at her from above. "There's no need to lie. I'm not stupid. I can see for myself. Since I'm here, I've naturally investigated everything. I know exactly what kind of person you are, Lisa."

Lisa continued to try to defend herself.

But Lassie didn't want to hear another word.

The people around them finally started to react.

"So she's not her biological daughter! I knew it! If she were, how could she be so cruel?"

"Not just cruel, she was trying to beat her to death!"

"They entrusted the girl to her care and gave her so much money every year. Even if she didn't like her, she shouldn't have treated her like that!"

"Exactly! If she didn't want to take care of her, she shouldn't have accepted her. Since she did, and took the money, she should have treated her well. Instead, she took the money and vented her anger on the girl. It's disgusting."

"If I were the one who entrusted her, I'd be furious."

"Absolutely. If it were me, I'd want to kill her!"

"She kept saying the girl was ungrateful and a jinx, but she's the ungrateful one. She took the money and didn't show any gratitude, treating the girl like that. Who's the ungrateful one here?"

"It's just too awful! I've lived a long life, and I've never seen someone so shameless."

"Because of her, I misunderstood the girl for so long. I feel so stupid."

"It's not your fault. It's hers! Who would've thought she wasn't the girl's real mom? We were all fooled by her."

Some people were so angry that they started spitting at Lisa.

"Ugh, how could we have such a neighbor? How can I let my daughter out now?"

"Yeah! If she can treat her adoptive daughter like this, she'll be even worse to others. Who dares to let their kids out alone now?"

"We'll have to keep a close eye on our kids from now on."

As they spoke, they remembered the man and started kicking him.

"You're the real scum here, bullying a young girl. Did you think we were easy to fool?"

"My daughter told me she felt someone was following her. I didn't believe her, thinking she was just tired from studying. Now I see it was you, you scumbag."

"My daughter said the same! I was so scared, so I started picking her up from school."

"It seems we've all experienced this! It must be true!"

"We've been wrong about this girl all along! If her real mother hadn't come today, we'd still be deceived."

With that, they started beating the man again.

"Scum, trash."

"We need to call the cops and have you arrested. Otherwise, how can we let our daughters out alone?"

Everyone's attention shifted to the man.

Hannah had been standing there, listening in a daze. It took her a long time to process everything. She finally stepped out from behind Lassie, looking at her in disbelief, her eyes red and filled with tears. "Are you really my biological mother?"

Seeing her cry, Lassie's heart broke. She cupped Hannah's face, her voice choked with emotion. "Yes, I am your biological mother! Hannah, I'm here to take you home. Will you come with me?"

Hannah didn't understand. She instinctively took a step back. "Why? Why did you lose me? Why did you let me end up with Lisa? Why? Why?"

The more she spoke, the louder her voice became.

Lassie knew she couldn't accept it all at once. She quickly grabbed her arm to comfort her. "It's not what you think! We didn't abandon you! You were kidnapped in the second year of middle school! The kidnappers and you disappeared. We've been searching for you for years, never giving up. All these years, your dad and I have felt so guilty, hating ourselves for not protecting you, for letting you suffer so much."

Hearing this, Hannah's reaction was the same as before. "No, you're lying! I remember clearly. I grew up with my grandmother. By the second year of middle school, my grandmother had already died, and I was back with Lisa!

You're not my biological mother. You're lying to me, lying."

When she thought the woman standing up for her was her biological mother, she was overjoyed.

She wouldn't have to stay with the White family anymore, wouldn't have to endure Lisa's violence.

She wouldn't have to envy others; she would have a mother who loved her.

But before she could fully enjoy that happiness, reality struck her down again.

She fell from heaven to hell once more.

This woman couldn't even lie convincingly.

If she had said she was kidnapped as a baby or taken at birth, she might have believed it, even if it was a lie.

But she said she was kidnapped in the second year of middle school.

How could that be?

She remembered everything from the second year of middle school clearly.

How could she have been kidnapped then?
