Chapter 625 Parting
"Maximilian's investigation was thorough, covering from when Margaret left, got married, had children, to her passing. They even had detailed information on their children's names, schools, professions, and marital status.
However, upon seeing the word ""deceased,"" he still deluded himself, wanting to make a final struggle. ""Are you sure that Patricia is my daughter?""
Maximilian nodded. ""I'm sure! If you're worried about any mistakes, you can do a DNA test with her. I've already arranged.""
Kaleb's body trembled incessantly.
""If she were my daughter, what have I been doing all these days?""
He faced Patricia's pleas with indifference, watching Martin's condition worsen.
Maximilian suggested, ""Uncle Kaleb, I can accompany you to meet her, explaining everything to her! Then, you can do a DNA test. I believe that science is more convincing than any speculation. Everything can go wrong, but what technology confirms will not.""
After much inner struggle, Kaleb finally accepted his proposal.
Maximilian was right.
Everything could go wrong except what technology had confirmed.
He hoped that Patricia was his daughter.
But he feared making a mistake, causing him to miss his true daughter.
So, the priority is to verify and then think about the next steps.
Maximilian drove Kaleb to the hospital. Kaleb stopped him as he was about to open the car door. ""Wait.""
Maximilian looked at Kaleb, who was sitting in the passenger seat.
Kaleb's palms were sweaty with nervousness; he unconsciously stuttered, ""Don't tell her yet, let's sneak a look first. Do you know which room Martin is in?""
Maximilian nodded. ""The rooms here are almost unavailable, but I managed to get her one! I know which room Martin is in for sure.""
Trembling, Kaleb opened the car door.
""Let's go take a look first,"" Kaleb said.
Maximilian led Kaleb to VIP Room 1 in the inpatient department.
Along the way, Kaleb remained silent, tense, and nervous.
When they reached the door of Martin's room, they deliberately slowed down, and Kaleb instinctively gestured to Maximilian not to speak.
Above the door of each room was a small transparent glass panel.
Maximilian and Kaleb looked through it into the room.
At that moment, Martin was still lying unconsciously in bed, while Patricia tidied up the room, tears streaming down her face, occasionally sobbing.
Perhaps hearing her cries, Martin, who had been in a coma, slowly opened his eyes and let out a soft groan.
Hearing the sound, Patricia immediately ran over, leaning on the bed. She tightly held his hand to her face, choking up, ""You're finally awake? Do you feel uncomfortable?""
Martin's handsome face became emaciated due to illness, pale to the point of turning purple. His lips were so dry that they had cracked.
His voice was low and hoarse.
""You've been crying?"" Martin asked.
Patricia wiped away tears, forcing a smile. ""No, I'm just happy to see you awake.""
Martin gently wiped away the tears on her face with his eyes reddening."" I'm awake now, why are you crying? Don't cry; seeing you cry makes my heart ache.""
Reluctant to see him in pain, Patricia hastily wiped her face, saying, ""I'm not crying.""
But the more she wiped, the more tears flowed.
Her crying and smiling expression only made people Martin more heartbroken.
""Martin, I'm sorry. I've caused you to end up like this. I've found Dr. Tate, but I couldn't get him to come and save you. I'm sorry. I'm really sorry.""
Martin moved, struggling to sit up from the bed, wanting to comfort her in his arms.
But he couldn't muster any strength.
In the end, he could only place his large hand on her head, gently rubbing it.
""It's not your fault; it's my misjudgment! Since Dr. Tate is unwilling, let's not force it! Fate is not something we can control; let it be.""
Patricia shook her head vigorously, tears flying everywhere.
""No, Martha has harmed you so much in the past, and you've still persevered, living well until now. Your vitality is so strong! Besides, we still have children waiting for you to come back! If you can't come back, what will they do?"" Patricia couldn't control her emotions, crying at the bedside.
Thinking that she might lose Martin, her heart ached, feeling uncomfortable.
Without Martin, what should she do?
She wouldn't be able to live without him.
Martin couldn't help but feel very sad, tears wetting the corners of his eyes.
""Martin, don't die, don't leave me, don't leave the children. You promised to get old with me. You have to keep your promise.""
Martin choked up, ""I'm sorry, Patricia. I may not be able to do it.""
Patricia tightly gripped the bedsheets, using them to restrain her heartache.
""I don't want apologies. I just want you to get better soon.""
Martin also didn't want to leave her, but his current condition was no longer in control.
""Promise me, if I die, don't grieve for too long. Don't follow me; take good care of the children, look after them for me. Tell them that although I can't be with them as they grow up, I'll always be watching over them in heaven.""
Hearing him say this, Patricia cried even more sadly.
""I'm useless. Despite studying medicine for so many years, I couldn't save you, my most beloved man.""
Martin felt sorry."" How are you useless? Didn't you save Randy? Thanks to you, he has become so outstanding now. It's all because of you.""
Patricia kept shaking her head, lifted her head, and held Martin's hand again, kissing the back of it repeatedly.
""As long as there is a glimmer of hope, I will never give up. I will stay strong,"" she said."
