Chapter 1022 It's Time We Had a Baby

Charles sat in front of the computer, trying every possible way to find Hannah.

Suddenly, there was a knock on his door.

"Come in!"

As soon as he spoke, the door was pushed open from the outside, and Violet walked in with a glass of water.

Violet walked towards Charles with a smile and asked, "Still up?"

Charles tiredly pinched the bridge of his nose. "There's some urgent work at the company that I need to handle. What about you? Still up?"

Violet came to Charles's side, glanced at the incomprehensible code on the computer, and laughed, "I slept all day, so I'm not tired at all now!"

Saying this, she handed the glass of water to Charles.

"I was worried you'd get tired, so I brought you a glass of water! Drink some water before you continue working!"

Charles glanced at the glass. "I'm not thirsty right now, just leave it there."

Violet pouted, "Just drink a little! I brought it especially for you!"

Charles's brow furrowed slightly, his eyes flickered, and he took the water from Violet, slowly bringing it to his mouth.

Violet stretched her neck, watching him intently, thinking that once he drank the water, they could get closer. She was so excited that her hands were trembling.

Charles lowered his eyes, saw her trembling hands, and his eyes narrowed. He paused in his action of drinking the water.

Violet was so nervous that her eyes widened in surprise.

"What's wrong? Why aren't you drinking? Is it too hot?"

Charles pointed to the nightstand. "Maybe I've been too busy today, and my body can't take it, causing my hypoglycemia to act up. I'm feeling a bit unwell. There's some candy in the drawer of the nightstand, can you get me one?"

Violet didn't suspect anything and agreed readily.

"Okay! If your hypoglycemia is acting up, drink the water quickly, and I'll get you some candy."

Saying this, she walked towards the place Charles pointed to.

The moment she turned around, Charles quickly poured the water into the cactus pot on the table.

He never kept plants.

This cactus was bought by Hannah when they went shopping a while ago.

Hannah said that facing the computer for long periods, a cactus could block radiation. She planned to buy a few more for his office when they returned to Country D.

Unexpectedly, this cactus came in handy today.

When Violet found the candy and turned back, she saw Charles drinking the last sip of water and placing the glass on the table.

She clearly saw Charles's Adam's apple move.

There was a swallowing motion.

In other words, he had finished the water.

A look of triumphant satisfaction flashed in Violet's eyes as she handed the candy to Charles. "Quick, eat one! It will make you feel better."

"Thank you!"

After thanking her, Charles opened the candy wrapper and put the candy in his mouth.

"It's late, you should go back to your room and rest! I still have some work to handle and don't have time to keep you company."

Violet, waiting for the drug to take effect, was reluctant to leave.

"I'll stay here with you!"

Charles shook his head. "You'll distract me if you stay here! Be good, go back to your room! There's plenty of time in the future for you to keep me company."

Afraid that Charles might get suspicious, Violet hesitated for a moment but eventually decided to leave.

She planned to come back in half an hour with an excuse.

Although Austin had assured her that the drug worked quickly, it was her first time using it and she wasn't entirely sure.

"Okay! Don't work too late. If you can't sleep, feel free to come and chat with me."

Charles nodded. "Got it! You get some rest. See you tomorrow."

"See you tomorrow."

After saying goodnight, Violet reluctantly left with the glass.

To avoid being discovered, she took the glass to her room, washed it clean, and threw it in the trash.

The waiting was especially torturous.

Violet paced back and forth in her room, calculating the time in her mind.

It had been ten minutes.

She wondered if the drug had taken effect. Why was there no movement from Charles's room?

Violet waited a bit longer, constantly checking the time.

Another ten minutes passed.

Still no movement. Could Charles be taking a cold shower in his room?

Should she go check?

After some hesitation, Violet decided to wait a bit longer, just in case.

Another ten minutes passed in agony.

After picking up and putting down her phone countless times, Violet calculated that the drug should have taken effect by now. She took a deep breath, checked her nightgown, and deliberately unbuttoned the top two buttons before opening her door, satisfied.

As soon as she stepped out, Fannie, who lived next door, also opened her door and came out.

They both froze in the hallway, staring at each other.

The air seemed to be still at that moment, and both Fannie and Violet felt awkward.

Fannie discreetly looked Violet up and down, her gaze lingering on Violet's open collar, which made the situation even more uncomfortable.

Then came the most awkward conversation.

"Hannah, are you going to see Charles?"

Violet responded with an awkward smile, "Yes. Are you getting some water?"

Fannie replied, "Yeah. Go ahead then!"

Violet stepped aside to make way. "Well, go get your water then!"

Fannie forced a stiff smile. "Actually, I'm not thirsty anymore. I'll just go back to my room! Hannah, you go ahead, go see Charles."

After saying that, she turned and went back to her room.

Seeing her return so quickly, Elijah asked in confusion, "Weren't you going to see Charles? Why are you back so soon?"

Fannie tilted her head, looking troubled.

"I don't know how to put this, but something seems off about Hannah today."

Elijah, who was chatting with his agent on his phone, looked up. "You finally noticed?"

Fannie walked over, wrapped her arms around his neck, and sat on his lap.

"What do you mean by that? What's wrong with Hannah?"

Elijah put his phone aside, one hand around her waist and the other pinching her nose.

"This is Charles's business, you shouldn't get involved."

"But our family has never kept secrets from each other. This time, I feel like my mom and Charles are hiding something, but they won't say anything, I..."

Before she could finish, Elijah had already picked her up and strode towards the bed.

Fannie was startled and clung to his neck even tighter.

"What are you doing?"

"Your mom is right, we're not getting any younger. It's time we had a baby."
