Chapter 791: Taking Action
Sunshine Manor.
Charles got to Violet's room early to wake her up.
"Violet. Violet."
He called her name for a while, but she didn't respond.
Charles smiled, bent down, and gently patted her cheek. "Violet, time to get up. You have school!"
Violet finally opened her eyes, gave him a sleepy smile, and rolled over to keep sleeping.
Charles sighed, tucked her in, grabbed her phone from the bedside table, and quietly left the room.
He knew how tough middle school could be, especially with her poor grades. She had to work harder than most, so she was probably just exhausted.
To let her rest, he used her phone to call her head teacher.
"Hello, is this Ethan Hayes, Violet's head teacher?" Charles asked.
"Yes, it is. And you are?" Ethan replied.
"I'm Charles, Violet's brother. She's not feeling well today. I'll take her to the hospital, and she'll come to school later."
Charles was the school's star student, often used as an example by the principal. Every teacher knew him, especially those who had taught him.
Ethan, knowing Charles and Violet grew up together, had no reason to doubt him.
"She's not well? What's wrong?" Ethan asked.
"Just a headache, probably a cold. I'll get a doctor's note for her," Charles said.
Ethan replied, "The note's not a big deal. Let her rest. If she's really unwell, she can stay home. I'll have her brother Austin bring her homework."
"Thanks!" Charles said.
After the call, Charles contacted Alan for a doctor's note. Once everything was sorted, he went downstairs.
The three people having breakfast were surprised to see him.
A lot had changed in five years.
Fannie graduated high school at eighteen, entered a beauty pageant, won, and started an acting career. Now, she was a top-tier actress, though her acting skills were lacking. Her beauty, however, made her a star, even if she got scolded by an Oscar-winning co-star recently.
Declan, with excellent grades, was sent abroad to study business management after middle school.
Randy was always on tour.
Now, only Maria was left at home with their parents, Patricia and Martin.
Patricia and Martin never interfered much with their kids' interests. They supported and developed their talents.
Maria, still in high school, inherited Patricia's talent for jewelry design and planned to study it abroad after graduation. She had matured a lot over the years and wasn't as mischievous as before.
In the family of five kids, only Fannie stayed as lively as ever. The other four had matured and become sensible and obedient.
Seeing their surprised faces, Charles sat down and chuckled, "Surprised to see me?"
Martin was the first to react. "When did you get back? Why didn't you let us know so we could pick you up?"
Charles replied as David served him breakfast, "Got back last night. It was too late to tell you."
After landing, Charles went straight to Violet's school. If Sunshine Manor was not too far, he would not even bother the family driver.
Martin asked, "How long are you staying?"
"Leaving tomorrow afternoon," Charles said.
Martin sighed, "Only two days off? You should rest properly."
Charles smiled, "I haven't seen you all in a while. Wanted to come back and visit."
Maria teased, "Seeing us is just an excuse. You really came back to see Violet, didn't you? I heard she hasn't visited you in two years since starting middle school. You missed her, right?"
Charles just glanced at her and continued eating.
Patricia suggested, "Since you're back, why not go shopping with me this afternoon? It's been a while."
Without looking up, Charles replied, "No time."
Patricia, annoyed, said, "Aren't you on vacation? How can you have no time?"
Charles explained, "Violet's behind in her studies. I need to tutor her."
Just then, the doorbell rang. David returned with Austin.
Austin greeted Martin and Patricia, then asked Charles, "Where's Violet? I'm here to take her to school."
Charles said, "You can go ahead. I've already gotten her a half-day leave. I'll take her to school this afternoon."
Austin frowned, "Where is she? I want to see her."
Charles replied, "She slept late and couldn't get up. Let her sleep a bit longer."
Austin's anger flared, and he moved to go upstairs, but Charles stopped him.
"I said, let her sleep," Charles insisted.
Austin grabbed Charles by the collar. "What did you do to her? Why can't she get up? She's still a teenager."
Charles, equally angry, pushed Austin away. "I'm not as vile as you think. Don't judge me. I love Violet more than anyone and would never harm her."
Patricia quickly intervened, "Talk it out, don't fight."
Charles, uninterested in arguing, sat back down and continued eating. "David, see him off," he said without looking up.
Austin clenched his fist, biting his molars. After a moment, he released his fist and left without looking back.
He couldn't believe that as her biological brother, he was less important than Charles. He was determined to find a way to get Violet back.
