Chapter 903 Quarrel
Hannah shivered at his tone.
She'd always been the good girl, never doing anything to make Quentin sad or worried.
But this time, she was dead set on breaking up with Austin.
Since she’d made up her mind, she couldn’t keep stringing Austin along. It wouldn’t be fair to him, or to Charles.
Hannah insisted, "I've already broken up with Austin! I know he’s done a lot for our family, and I’m super grateful. When I was with him before, I was sincere. I thought I liked him."
Quentin’s face turned dark as a storm cloud.
Quentin snapped, "So? Are you telling me now that you don’t like him anymore?"
Hannah nodded like crazy. "Yes, I don’t like him. What I feel for him is gratitude! I’ve fallen for another guy. Since I met him, I realized what love is and what gratitude is. I don’t like Austin, so I can’t be with him. It wouldn’t be fair to him."
Seeing she was about to keep going, Austin kept tugging at her sleeve, whispering, "Hannah, that’s enough, stop talking!"
Hannah added, "I’m telling the truth. I don’t want to lie to them. This has to come out someday, and I think today’s the day."
Hannah kept her head down, not daring to look at her dad.
Only this way could she muster the guts to keep going, spilling everything in her heart.
Even though Quentin was only in his forties, his dark skin made him look way older than his peers.
Right now, his whole face was red with anger because of Hannah, and his chest was heaving like crazy.
Quentin fumed, "I forbid it! I forbid you to break up!"
Hannah’s hands on her thighs clenched into fists.
Hannah said, "My feelings should be my own decision. I know you mean well for me, and I can listen to you on other stuff, but not this."
Quentin was so mad he laughed, "You’ve always been so obedient. I never thought you’d turn out like this today! No wonder people say girls change after college! At first, I didn’t believe it, but now I do! You’ve been led astray by the people around you. Tell me, who is it? Who led you astray? Who’s the guy you like? I want to see how he seduced my daughter, making her defy me and not listen to me. He doesn’t even dare to come see me, letting you come alone. Clearly, he’s not a good person and has no sense of responsibility."
Hearing him accuse Charles like this, Hannah panicked and quickly raised her head to defend him, "No, he’s not like that. He doesn’t even know you’re here, and he hasn’t had the chance to come see you."
Because he’s lying in bed and can’t come see you. But she couldn’t say that.
If Quentin knew she was waiting for a guy in a vegetative state to wake up, he’d be even angrier.
Quentin got even more furious, "He’s like this, and you’re still defending him? I think you’re bewitched by him! Austin is so good, and you don’t like him. You insist on liking a guy with no sense of responsibility. Tell me, what’s so good about him? Is he better than Austin?"
Hannah blurted out without thinking, "In my heart, he’s the best, the most outstanding, and no one can compare."
She didn’t like comparing people. It was rude. After all, everyone has their own strengths and merits. Comparing them was just unfair.
Quentin glared at Hannah, his eyes practically popping out of his head.
His once obedient daughter was now standing up to him for some guy he’d never even met.
"Break up." His tone was sharp and final.
Even though it was just two words, Hannah got the message loud and clear. Without a second thought, she shot back, "No."
Quentin’s face tightened up, "I'm your father. You should listen to me! Break up with that guy. I will never allow you to be with him."
Hannah, getting all worked up, said, "But I like him. I love him. He's the first guy I've ever liked."
Quentin sneered, "You're only nineteen. What do you know about love? You’re just falling for his sweet talk! If you want a stable life, you should find a husband like Austin. You’re still young. When you grow up, you’ll see how childish and ridiculous you’re being today."
Hannah stood her ground, "I will never regret it."
She paused and added, "Even if I do regret it, I’m willing to deal with the consequences myself."
Quentin was so mad he couldn’t even speak.
For the first time, he realized just how stubborn Hannah could be when she set her mind to something.
She was totally ignoring her dad’s words.
After a bit, he found his voice again, "Are you really not gonna break up with him?"
Under Quentin’s angry glare, Hannah nodded, "Yes, I won’t break up with him! I like him and want to be with him for the rest of my life."
Quentin went silent, his face looking like a thundercloud.
Hannah’s heart was pounding like crazy.
Her palms were sweaty.
Only God knew how scared and nervous she was, and how much courage she had to muster, her hands shaking like she had Parkinson’s.
The room fell into dead silence again.
Quentin didn’t speak, and neither did Hannah.
They just stared each other down.
Lisa noticed Quentin’s face didn’t look right and said earnestly, "Hannah, you used to listen to us. Why are you acting like this today? Your dad’s right. The fact that he made you come alone to talk about the breakup shows how irresponsible he is! With a guy like that, you’ll have a hard time. A good man like Austin, if you miss him, you’ll never find another. In this life, you can’t meet two good men."
Hannah’s eyes got a bit teary, "Mom, he’s not irresponsible. He didn’t come because of special reasons, and he didn’t even know I came to see you! You don’t know him. Once you get to know him, you’ll definitely like him. He’s better than any guy I’ve ever met. He’s considerate, caring, gentlemanly, gentle, and well-mannered. I’ve never met such an amazing guy."
Hearing her praise Charles, Austin’s face darkened, his lips pressed into a tight line.
"She’s bewitched." Seeing Hannah so stubborn, Quentin angrily grabbed Lisa’s hand and headed for the door. Quentin was about to leave, "If she’s like this, then let’s pretend we never had this daughter. Let’s go back and never come to see her again. She only has that guy in her heart now, not us."
"Dad," Hannah immediately stood up and chased after them.
"Quentin," Lisa was dragged by Quentin, stumbling towards the door.
She still wanted to persuade him, but just as they reached the door, Quentin suddenly stopped. He let go of her arm and clutched his left chest tightly. His face turned deep red, looking very uncomfortable.
