Chapter 202 Charlotte Learns of Fannie's Origins

The test results were out.

As Charlotte arrived, the envelope containing the results was handed over to her directly. Walking over to a bench, she sat down, and eagerly took out the results, ignoring the data comparison at the beginning and flipping straight to the last page to see the result.

The paternity test showed an 80% match between Party B and Party A. Seeing the results, Charlotte's hands trembled with excitement, fearing she had made a mistake, she hurried over to the appraiser and asked for clarification.

"What does an 80% compatibility mean?"

The appraiser explained, "It means that you are related by blood, but not immediate relations."

Just to be sure, Charlotte continued, "Could it be an aunt-niece relationship?"

The appraiser nodded, "Given the percentage of compatibility, yes!"

With a confirmed answer, Charlotte felt as if she had uncovered some incredible secret, her entire body pulsing with excitement, she couldn't wait to take out another phone and dial a series of numbers. The person on the other end seemed busy; it rang for a long time before they answered.

"What's happened?"

Holding the paternity test result, Charlotte said with a trembling voice, "Fannie is Martin's biological daughter."

The person on the other end seemed shaken by the news, falling silent for a moment before asking in a heavy tone, "How do you know?"

Charlotte responded, "Fannie and I looked too much alike when we were young. I could just tell from looking at her. I secretly took some of her hair yesterday and compared it with mine for a paternity test. The results show a genetic compatibility of 80% with mine. I'm her biological aunt, she's my niece."

There was silence again in response. Seeing he didn't speak, Charlotte voiced her confusion, "If Fannie is also Martin’s daughter, why has Patricia never told Martin? Why has she been hiding this? Why keep it a secret?"

The other party still didn't speak, seemingly lost in thought. Charlotte went on, "Do you think I should tell Martin?"

This time, the person finally spoke. "Why tell Martin? To bring them closer?"

Charlotte didn't understand, "Hmm?"

"As long as Martin doesn't know Fannie is his daughter, he can use that as a reason to stay away. It will continue to be an area of conflict between him and Patricia."

Charlotte understood, "You're right, if Martin knew Patricia had given him three children, it would only encourage their reconciliation. We really can't tell Martin."

The person on the line fell silent again for a moment, then suddenly said, "Frank will be starting at Ivara City Hospital in a few days. If there's anything, look him up; he will help you."

Frank was the last card up his sleeve. He had to play it now, it couldn't wait until the end. He had to be brought in sooner. Otherwise, once Fannie's identity was exposed, it would be even harder to prevent Patricia and Martin from reconciling.

"Alright!"

"Anything else? If not, I'm hanging up." The person's tone had gradually becoming impatient.

Charlotte feared he might really hang up, so she hurriedly said, "Is the situation over in America difficult? How long do you think it will be before you can return? If Frank can come back instead of you, it must be an incredibly tough situation indeed.”

The person on the other end, replied indifferently, "I'll need some more time over here. Frank has his own mission. The two of you just need to take care of your respective duties."

Not obtaining the news she wanted, Charlotte was unwilling to let it go. "Can you manage on your own? Do you need me to come over and help you?"

"What can you help me with? What can you actually help with?"

"I…" Charlotte was at a loss for words.

"Just take good care of Martin and Patricia, that's all I need from you. Don't come here causing me more trouble!" With that, without waiting for Charlotte to respond, the call was abruptly ended.

Two days later, Patricia arrived at work, only to find a familiar face as soon as she entered the doctor's office. Her eyes widened in shock.

It was a face with delicate and noble handsome features, with eyebrows shaped like distant mountains and eyes bright like stars. The white coat draped over him outlined a tall, erect figure, enhancing his broad shoulders and narrow hips, as well as his long legs, creating an irresistibly striking appearance.

After a moment of stunned silence, Patricia finally exclaimed, "Frank."

The department head, surprised, said, "Professor Watson, you know each other?"

Frank Taylor approached Patricia with a smile, extending his hand courteously, "Patricia, it's been a while. From today, we will be colleagues. I look forward to your guidance."

After a brief shock, Patricia regained her composure. Considering that others were present, she couldn't be overly familiar, so she imitated his gesture and shook his hand, "Frank, how come you're working here now?"

She knew that Frank was an unrivaled cardiothoracic surgery expert globally, with both reputation and skills far surpassing hers. Given his current status in the medical community, he had no need to settle for a position at the Ivara City Hospital.

Frank responded with a smile, "Why? Aren't you welcoming me?"

Afraid he might misunderstand, Patricia quickly nodded emphatically, "Of course not! I'm naturally thrilled that you're here!"

Frank smiled again, outstretched his arm, and casually placed it over Patricia's shoulder, turning to the department head, "Professor Watson was my classmate. We went to the same medical university."

Patricia, not minding his friendly gesture, nodded and added with a smile, "Right, we've known each other for nearly five years!"

Seeing that they knew each other, the department head quickly said, "Well, if you're acquainted, that's perfect. You can show Professor Taylor around and get him acquainted with the environment."

"Okay!"

After the department head left, Frank removed his hand from Patricia's shoulder and absent-mindedly gave the tip of her nose a playful tweak, "Where are my Fannie and Charles? I haven't seen them in such a long time; I really miss them."

Patricia said, "They're at the kindergarten! I'll take you to see them after work. It'll be a quick welcome for you."

"Great!" Frank agreed cheerfully.

The moment Gladys, who had been sitting behind her desk, laid eyes on Frank, her heart pounded like a spooked deer, her cheeks flushing with embarrassment. Shyly, she walked over and extended her hand towards Frank.

“Hello, I'm Gladys, an intern in cardiothoracic surgery! You are the renowned Professor Taylor; may I come to you with questions in the future?"

Frank, affable and kind-hearted, happily consented, “Of course, feel free to ask me anything you don't understand!"

Gladys's heart beat even faster, almost leaping out of her throat. Remembering the mischief she and Debbie had previously wrought, Patricia remained skeptical of Gladys's character and, while showing Frank around, gave him a well-intentioned warning.

"It's important to guard against others—just be careful."

Frank was perceptive and immediately picked up on the subtext. "Are you suggesting that Gladys means me harm?”

Patricia disliked speaking ill of others behind their backs and preferred to be concise, "I didn't say that I'm just advising you to be cautious."

Frank affectionately, slung his arm around her shoulders again, "We haven't seen each other for so long, what is our relationship that you can't speak directly?"

Patricia glared at him and provocatively asked, "What is our relationship?"

Frank declared confidently, "We've lived together for such a long time; what do you think our relationship is?"

Unbeknownst to them, their casual exchange happened to be overheard by Martin, who was right behind them.
