Chapter 1184 What Are You Conspiring?
Seeing the worried look on Charles' face, Hannah's heart sank, fearing that Oliver hadn't been rescued. "Did you not manage to save Oliver? Or is there something wrong with those numbers?"
Charles knew that if Hannah found out the truth, she might not be able to handle it.
But he believed that honesty was crucial, whether between friends, couples, or spouses.
Even if there were misunderstandings, they should be cleared up immediately.
So, despite his initial hesitation, he decided not to hide anything from Hannah. He organized his thoughts and then spoke slowly, "We found Oliver. He's safe and sound."
Hearing this, Hannah let out a huge sigh of relief, patting her chest. "That's good, that's good. Oliver is safe."
Suddenly, she sensed something was off and looked at Charles with confusion. "If Oliver is safe, why do you look so serious? Is there something else? Did Oliver get hurt badly? Or did Charlotte do something to him? Charles, don't hide anything from me. No matter what happened, you have to tell me. I need to go see Oliver right away."
Afraid that her imagination would run wild, Charles held her shoulders and reassured her, "No, no, don't scare yourself. Oliver is fine. He's not hurt."
Hannah looked at him curiously. "Then why do you look so serious?"
Charles pressed his lips together, thought for a moment, and then spoke slowly, "When Wyatt followed the location I sent, he found out that Oliver wasn't kidnapped. He was working with Charlotte."
His words hit Hannah like a bolt of lightning, leaving her stunned and her mind blank. "I... I don't understand what you mean."
Charles knew she understood but was unwilling to believe it. He patiently explained, "Wyatt said Oliver and Charlotte were working together. They teamed up to threaten you and kidnap you."
The cruel truth was too much for Hannah to accept. She shook her head repeatedly, grabbing Charles' arm in agitation. "How could this be? Oliver is the only one in the White family who treats me well. How could he be involved with Charlotte? Why would he help Charlotte hurt me? There must be some misunderstanding. Oliver wouldn't do this to me! When we talked on the phone, he told me to take care of myself. He told me not to worry about him and not to be threatened by bad people. Could it be... could it be that it was all an act?"
Despite all the hardships she had faced, Hannah had never been broken down mentally. But this time was different. The feeling of being betrayed by someone she trusted and loved was unbearable. Her chest felt tight, and she struggled to breathe.
Charles knew she was deeply hurt and couldn't accept it right away. He held her close, gently patting her back to comfort her. "Oliver is young and must have been influenced. There must be some misunderstanding. Wyatt has him under watch now. I think we should bring him to Sunset Bay so you two can talk face-to-face. If there's a misunderstanding, you can clear it up."
Hannah nodded, then shook her head. "No, he has exams coming up. It's too much trouble for him to travel back and forth. We should go to him."
Charles replied, "If we don't resolve this, do you think he can focus on his exams? He was likely influenced by Quentin and Lisa. They're in Sunset Bay, and your biological parents are there too. Bringing him to Sunset Bay will make it easier to explain. Besides, exams aren't the only path. If he doesn't do well this year, he can retake them next year. If he doesn't want to repeat, he can study abroad. Don't think of it as too serious. It's not as bad as you imagine."
Hannah thought about his words and agreed. "Alright, tell Wyatt to be careful and not hurt Oliver."
"Don't worry, I'll make sure of it."
After comforting Hannah, Charles called Wyatt and instructed him to bring Oliver to Sunset Bay personally.
He then called the head of the security team, instructing him to keep an eye on Austin and report any movements immediately.
Once everything was arranged, the car fell into a brief silence.
"Everything will be okay, right?" Hannah leaned against Charles, seeking comfort and reassurance.
Charles smiled, "Don't worry, everything will be fine. Oliver is just temporarily misled. Once the misunderstanding is cleared up, everything will be okay."
Hannah felt a bit more at ease. Charles was right. Oliver was too naive, which made him easy to deceive. Once the misunderstanding was cleared, everything would be fine.
Charles lowered his head and gently kissed her forehead. "Is your stomach feeling okay?"
Hannah touched her stomach and smiled. "It's fine. No discomfort. Whose idea was it to put the tracker inside me?"
Charles played with her hair. "Austin is too cunning and cautious. There was no way to place the tracker on him without him noticing. So, I had to put it inside you. I was worried it might cause you discomfort, but I was more afraid of losing you again. Austin would never suspect that I put the tracker inside you. Luckily, you understood my mother's hint. I was so afraid Austin would notice something. I have the medicine with me. Once we get to the hotel, take it to expel the tracker. We don't want it sticking to your intestines."
Hannah wrapped her arms around his waist, snuggling closer. "Thank goodness you're smart. Otherwise, we wouldn't have caught Charlotte so smoothly. It's better an open enemy than a false friend."
"Yes, I'm glad you're safe. That's all that matters." Charles tightened his embrace, as if he wanted to merge Hannah into his bones.
No one knew how worried he had been these past few days, unable to eat or sleep, with his mind full of thoughts about Hannah. He was terrified she might get hurt. Fortunately, despite Austin's obsession, he had treated Hannah well. Otherwise, Charles wouldn't know what to do.
After a while, Hannah looked out the window and asked curiously, "Where are we now?"
Although it was nighttime, the car lights allowed her to see the surroundings.
Since being brought here, she had been confined to a room, with neighbors far away, so she hadn't figured out her location.
Charles held her tightly and said, "This is a very, very small country, so small that other countries don't covet it."
"Are you talking about Country L?"
Country L was located in the northwest of Aldoria's capital, with an area of only 0.17 square miles and a population of less than 1,000.
Charles tapped her nose. "Smart girl, you guessed it right!"
Hannah's eyes widened. "I can't believe I was brought here! No wonder it's so sparsely populated. We hardly saw anyone on the way."
"Yes, if it weren't so remote, I would have found you sooner and not gotten lost."
Hannah couldn't believe that someone as smart as Charles could get lost. She kissed his cheek. "But you found me! I always knew you would. I trust you."
Charles accepted her praise with a smile, feeling a bit proud. Nothing made him happier than Hannah admiring him.
The car drove for a long time before arriving at the hotel. As soon as they entered, Hannah eagerly asked, "Tell me, what's your plan? Are you plotting something again?"
She felt something was off, but couldn't pinpoint it.
