Chapter 817: Austin Learns About Hannah and Charles's Relationship
Gordon was on edge, scared outta his mind that Hannah was gonna come after him.
"Hannah, I had no clue you were with Charles before, so I messed up. Please, cut me some slack this time. I swear, it won't happen again."
Hannah just lifted her chin and gave him a cold stare.
"If Charles hadn't stepped in, you would've totally screwed me over! I've got Charles backing me, but what about everyone else? People like you shouldn't be around, messing with innocent folks."
Gordon's face twisted at her words, but he didn't dare talk back. He just forced a smile.
"Yeah, yeah, I'll change, I promise. This won't happen again."
Hannah couldn't stand Gordon. She wished Charles would just fire him already. Someone like him sticking around was bad news for the company.
But no matter how much she hated him, she wouldn't let it mess with the company.
"Hold up! I'll go in and let him know."
"Thanks, thanks!"
Seeing she was finally gonna let him off the hook, Gordon let out a sigh of relief.
Hannah stood up, shot him a look of pure disdain, walked to Charles's office door, and knocked.
Charles's voice came from inside.
"Come in." Hannah opened the door and stepped in.
Charles looked up at her, raising an eyebrow. "What's up?"
Hannah said, "The PR Director's got two docs that need your John Hancock."
Charles frowned. Usually, anything needing his signature went through Wyatt first. Wyatt would check it out, and if it was all good, he'd pass it to Charles for the final sign-off.
But this time, Gordon had come straight to him.
"Let him in," Charles said.
"Got it," Hannah replied.
She didn't know the details, so when Charles told her to bring Gordon in, she did just that and then stood by, waiting for instructions.
Charles leaned back in his leather chair, giving Gordon a blank look.
"You've been here a while. You know Wyatt's supposed to check stuff before it gets to me. Skipping him and coming straight to me breaks company rules."
Hearing this, Hannah's eyes widened a bit. 'Docs need to go through Wyatt first?' she thought.
Gordon had an excuse ready. "Charles, I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to bug you! But these docs are urgent and need your signature ASAP, so I skipped Wyatt and came straight to you."
Charles sneered, raising an eyebrow but didn't say much. He just signaled with his eyes for Gordon to hand over the docs.
Gordon quickly handed them over.
Charles took the docs and started looking them over.
Gordon was slick, bringing an urgent doc to him.
But.
"If I'm not wrong, this doc should've been given to Wyatt this morning, and then he'd pass it to me! Why didn't you hand it in this morning?"
Gordon hung his head, looking ashamed. "Charles, it was my staff's mistake, so I came personally to own up and to ask you to sign it quickly."
In reality, he had held back the doc on purpose.
After Charles took Hannah from the PR Department in the morning, he wanted to chat about their relationship.
So, he held back the document and used the "urgent" excuse to come up personally.
Especially after seeing the messages in the employee group at noon, he was super nervous.
He needed to know if Hannah and Charles were really a thing.
And he needed to know if Hannah remembered everything and if she was gonna use this chance to get back at them.
Because of this, the whole department was on edge all morning, feeling like they could get canned any second.
Charles gave him a long, hard look.
Charles was sharp and knew exactly what they were thinking.
But he didn't call them out. He just looked over the document, saw it was all good, and signed it.
"Thanks, Charles. I'll head out now."
Gordon took the folder, sneaking glances at Hannah.
"Mm!" Charles waved him off.
Gordon slowly turned around, dragging his feet to the door, still glancing at Hannah.
Seeing Gordon's behavior, Charles curled his lips in disdain.
As Hannah was about to follow Gordon out, Charles called, "Hannah, hold up!"
The affectionate tone made both Hannah and Gordon freeze.
Hannah was surprised, not getting why he suddenly called her Hannah.
And Gordon was shocked, already freaking out inside.
Hannah. Such a sweet, personal name.
That's what you call family or lovers.
And Charles, Charles actually called her that.
Could the rumors be true?
Were Charles and Hannah really a thing?
Realizing this, he broke out in a cold sweat.
He had actually wanted to hook up with Charles's girlfriend.
Thank God he failed.
Otherwise, he wouldn't even know how he got axed.
Gordon perked up his ears, trying to catch more info.
Charles's eyes darkened, and he lowered his voice, "What are you still doing here? Got more business?"
Gordon almost jumped out of his skin, quickly shaking his head, "No, no! I'm outta here, right now."
He opened the door and bolted, even closing it behind him.
Hannah looked at Charles, surprised, "Charles, just now you..."
Before she could finish, Charles made a shushing gesture and pointed to the door.
Hannah was puzzled.
Charles didn't speak, silently counting the time, and after making sure Gordon was gone, he waved his hand, "It's nothing, you can go now."
Hannah was confused.
Charles smiled, "I just wanted to scare him."
At first, Hannah didn't get it, but after thinking it over, she kinda did, though not completely.
But she didn't bother to think more and turned to leave.
Not long after Gordon left, the rumors about Charles and Hannah being a couple spread like wildfire. No one dared to talk about it in the group, but word of mouth did the trick, and soon the whole company knew.
At the same time, Austin, who was abroad, got a message from a friend.
[What's up? Isn't Hannah your fiancée? Why's everyone saying she's with Charles, the CEO of IntelliMerge Technologies? Now everyone in their company knows Charles's girlfriend is named Hannah.]
After seeing the message, Austin slowly narrowed his eyes.
