Chapter 681 The Body of Billy Found

Kaleb sent people to find Billy while continuing to take care of Martin.

Ryan and Sebastian were also searching together.

Martin also wanted to join the search, but Kaleb held him back. "Given your current condition, it's best not to go anywhere! If something happens to you and Patricia comes back, what then?"

Martin knew that his presence wouldn't make much of a difference, so he heeled Kaleb’s advice and stayed in the ward, waiting for news.

That day, just as Martin finished taking his medicine and Kaleb was packing up the thermos, preparing to leave, Ryan and Sebastian burst in, panting heavily.

Both of them had never looked so panicked before, and Martin immediately knew something wrong. Furrowing his brow, he asked, "What's happened?"

Ryan, still catching his breath from running, stuttered as he spoke.

"Martin... A... major accident... happened... Billy... Billy..."

Seeing him struggle to get to the point, Sebastian gave him a cold look, took a deep breath, and said, "Billy is dead. The recovery team found his body."

Ryan finally caught his breath and hurriedly nodded in agreement. "Yes! Just now, as we arrived downstairs at the hospital, we received the news! Just now, the recovery team found Billy's body downstream."

The room fell into a sudden, deathly silence.

It was so quiet that you could hear everyone's breathing clearly.

Kaleb's face was full of shock, and he shook his head in disbelief. "No, no... it can't be... how could it happen! Billy can't be dead!"

For so many days.

They had finally seen a glimmer of hope, only to receive news of Billy's body being found.

This was like a bolt from the blue, shattering all their hopes.

Even Martin, who had seen countless storms, was stunned for a while before reacting. He threw off the covers and getting dressed.

"We need to get over there right awayq!"

Ryan, anxious, said, "Martin, why go over there? If Joe hears about it, he will lose it completely! If he acts out of anger and harms you, who knows what he might do to you? Ever since Billy's death, he's completely changed."

Ryan had always thought of Joe as an exceptionally honest official.

Never did Ryan expect him to change like this.

Martin remained calm. "Regardless of what he might do, we must go immediately! First, we need to confirm the identity of the body—whether it really is Billy. Second, if it is truly Billy, we need to find clues as soon as possible. I believe in Patricia. She would never kill Billy! But if it wasn't her, and Billy is truly dead, then the real murderer must be someone else! If we want to clear Patricia's name, we must catch the real murderer, so we can't afford to miss any clues."

Sebastian's thoughts aligned with Martin's. "Martin is right! We must find the real murderer to clear Patricia's name! So we must hurry."

Kaleb finally regained his composure and said, "Yes, we must hurry! If Joe sees Billy's body, he will surely lose it. Who knows what he might do to Patricia! We must hurry."

Ryan frowned. "But Billy has been in the river for so long, any clues would have been washed away."

By now, Martin had changed into outdoor clothes and was putting on his shoes.

"Even if there's a one in a million chance, we must go and see! Maybe..."

He paused for a moment while putting on his shoes, then continued, "Maybe that person isn't Billy after all!"

Martin just hoped that the body wasn't Billy's but someone else’s.

Otherwise, things would get more complicated.

Though Ryan didn't fully agree with their words, he always listened to Martin. Seeing their determination, he nodded and followed them to the location where Billy's body was found.

On the way, they also called Maximilian.

Since Billy's body was found, all recovery teams had been dismissed.

The area where the body was found was cordoned off.

The body lay flat by the riverbank.

The forensic medicine was collecting evidence.

Surprisingly, despite such a major event, there wasn’t a single journalists on the scene.

Joe, Susan, and Carol all arrived.

Maximilian, being closer, had reached the site ahead of them. Upon seeing them, Maximilian waved, intending to lead them in, but was stopped by the police. "I'm sorry, but Joe has ordered that only police and forensic medicine be allowed in."

Maximilian said, "I am Maximilian, a friend of Joe!"

The police remained stern, "Sorry, without Joe's permission, no one can enter!"

Martin looked past the police officer's shoulder, peering into the cordon.

With so many people at the scene, the body was obscured, making it impossible to see clearly.

Realizing they couldn't enter, Martin pulled Maximilian aside. "It seems we can't get in right now. Is there a way to visit the morgue later or obtain the forensic findings after the examination?"

After a moment of hesitation, Maximilian replied, "I'll figure something out. It shouldn't be difficult."

Martin breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you! I appreciate your help!"

Maximilian smiled faintly, "You're welcome! Patricia is my sister, so helping her is only natural!"

As Kaleb and the others approached, Kaleb eagerly asked Maximilian, "Is it Billy?"

A somber expression settled over Maximilian's face like a dark cloud as he nodded gravely, "It should be Billy. Although the body is unrecognizable from soaking in the river, I recognize the clothes he's wearing. They belong to Billy."

Since the day Carol disappeared when she was discharged from the hospital, Maximilian had learned about everything.

So many things had happened during his time in hospital.

And his good friend Billy had done so many outrageous things.

Even the car accident he had been in was orchestrated by Billy.

Billy, as his good friend, had schemed to kill him.

Thinking back now, it was chilling.

So, after he was discharged, he also sent people to find Billy.

Originally, he wanted to find Billy and ask him why he did all this.

But he never expected that when he saw Billy again, he had turned into a corpse.

After hearing his words, Kaleb felt his vision darken; his legs weak; and he almost fell to the ground.

Martin, who was closest to Kaleb, quickly reached out to support him.

Maximilian also grabbed Kaleb’s other arm, reassuring him. "Don't worry, we need to wait for the forensic examination to confirm if it's Billy."

At that moment, the forensic medicine had finished collecting evidence, and the body was being loaded onto a vehicle.

Joe, Susan, and Carol had been by the body's side all along. Susan had fainted several times and now leaned weakly against Carol; her tears dried up, looking like she could faint at any moment.

Joe was also crying, but unlike Susan's heart-wrenching sobs; his tears were restrained. His fists clenched tightly at his sides, fists balled up, as if trying to contain the overwhelming sorrow and rage within him.

Carol, grieving, supported her mother, fearing Susan couldn't handle the shock.

Outside the perimeter of caution tape, the vehicle meant for transporting the deceased awaited. They observed as Billy's body was lifted into the vehicle; then witnessed the door shut right before him, a feeling of impending doom weighing heavily upon them.

As the vehicle carrying the body drove away, they saw Kaleb and the others standing not far away.

Joe glared at them fiercely as if he wanted to tear them apart and devour them whole.

"You said Billy staged this himself, right? You said he didn't die. Now tell me, who was just taken away?"
