Chapter 930 Date
Charles had a gnarly cut on his face and was too chicken to face Hannah for three whole days. He kept dodging her with all sorts of lame excuses, hoping his mug would heal up before he had to see her.
Now, Hannah used to be pretty clueless about love stuff, but ever since she fell for Charles, she got way more tuned in. Maybe she bought his busy act for a day, but three days straight? And turning her down when she wanted to visit? Yeah, anyone would get suspicious.
So, when Charles blew her off again, saying he was swamped with work, she didn't even bother arguing. She hung up and headed straight to IntelliMerge Technologies.
Charles and Hannah had been super tight lately. They hadn't made it official, but everyone could see something was up between them.
When Hannah stormed into the company, nobody stopped her. They just smiled and said, "Hey Hannah, here to see Mr. Watson again?"
Hannah grinned and nodded. "Yep! He should be here, right? I just called, and he said he was busy at the office!"
Translation: She'd already given him a heads-up, so no need to announce her.
The receptionist got the hint.
Plus, Hannah had been dropping by so often that she didn't need an intro anymore. She just took the CEO's private elevator like it was no big deal.
"Yep! Mr. Watson's been here all morning."
"Thanks! I'll go find him!" Hannah replied.
After thanking them, she took the CEO's elevator up and headed straight to the office, only to run into Wyatt coming out.
Wyatt's eyes went all shifty, and he stammered, "Hannah, what are you doing here?"
He was practically shouting, probably trying to warn Charles inside.
Hannah noticed all this but kept her cool. "Yeah, I haven't seen him today, and I'm worried. The receptionist said he hasn't left the building."
That shut Wyatt up real quick.
Hannah was determined to find out what Charles was hiding.
Wyatt gulped and stepped aside.
"Thanks!" Hannah said.
She didn't bother knocking and just barged into the office.
Charles, who should've been at his desk, was scrambling around the office. When he heard the door, he quickly turned his back to her.
Hannah's suspicion grew.
Wyatt shot Charles a sympathetic look and bailed.
Hannah closed the door and walked up to Charles.
Charles spun around again, still keeping his back to her.
Hannah was baffled.
She walked up to him again.
Charles kept turning away.
Even Hannah's patience was running thin.
"Charles, I'm here. Are you planning to never face me? I'll count to three. If you don't look at me, I'm outta here, and I won't talk to you again."
"One."
"Two."
She paused between each count, giving him time to think.
Just as she finished counting to two, Charles turned around and hugged her tight, resting his chin on her shoulder like a kid. "You're getting bossy now; you weren't like this before."
"Don't try to sweet-talk me!" Hannah snapped, pulling away. When she saw his face, she gasped. "What happened to your face?"
She reached out to check, but he winced dramatically.
"Does it hurt a lot?" Hannah asked, worried.
Charles nodded pitifully. "Yeah! It hurts a ton! But you were just yelling at me!"
Hannah had totally forgotten why she even came. While checking him out, she asked, "What the heck happened to you? You were fine when we split the other night, and now, a few days later, your face looks like this? Judging by the bruise, it's been a few days, right?" Then, she got this dark look on her face. "Did you do something shady that night? Spill it, what did you do? Why'd you get beat up like this? Did someone just target one side of your face? Otherwise, why's it so messed up?"
Charles nodded, hanging his head, and mumbled, "I got into a fight that night. I didn't want you to worry, so I avoided you. I thought I'd wait till my face healed a bit before seeing you. Don't be mad. I won't fight anymore."
Hannah was both pissed and heartbroken. But seeing him all pitiful, she couldn't stay mad even if she tried.
"So, did you win or lose?" she asked.
Charles perked up and grinned. "Of course, I won! I've trained, and most people can't take me. Even though I'm hurt, the other guy's worse off!"
Hannah rolled her eyes. "Even if you won, no more fighting."
Charles immediately raised his hand to promise, "I swear, no more fighting."
But when he did, Hannah noticed the bandage on his wrist, and her face darkened again.
"Your wrist is hurt too?" she asked.
Charles rubbed his wrist and smiled. "I didn't control the angle right and twisted it."
Hannah was speechless. Feeling heartbroken, she grabbed his hand and rubbed his wrist, pressing hard to teach him a lesson.
Charles winced in pain.
"You know it hurts? Then don't fight anymore! Today it's a minor injury, but what about next time? Who can guarantee there won't be any accidents? If something happens to you, what will I do?" Hannah snapped.
Charles pulled her into his arms, hugging her tight, his chin resting on her forehead, his warm breath on her skin.
"This was a one-time thing; it won't happen again," he promised.
If it did, he'd have Austin caught and handed over to Carter.
Hannah hugged his waist, listening to his heartbeat, finally feeling a bit more at ease.
"Who did you fight with?" she asked.
Charles brushed it off, "Just a business partner. I found out he was doing shady stuff behind my back, damaging my company's rep, so I hit him in a fit of anger."
"Oh, in that case, he deserved it!" Hannah didn't doubt his words.
She couldn't think of any reason why Charles would lie to her.
Hannah felt a bit aggrieved. "If your injury doesn't heal, are you planning to not see me at all?"
Charles laughed. "I've been applying medicine like crazy! The doc said with this kind of injury, it should be mostly healed in seven days! By then, a bit of foundation will cover it up."
"Foundation?" Hannah couldn't help but laugh. "You really thought this through!"
Charles, not letting it go, started to act spoiled again. "What else can I do? I miss you! So, I'll just use a bit of foundation! To see you, I'll do anything."
Hannah couldn't help but laugh out loud.
Charles sat on the sofa, pulling her onto his lap, wrapping his arms around her waist, and resting his face on her chest, like a kid.
"I missed you so much these three days," he said.
Hannah held his head, resting her chin on top of it.
The cool fragrance wafted through her nose, making her feel refreshed and happy.
"Me too! I almost thought you didn't like me anymore, that you were deliberately avoiding me and being so cold to me, forcing me to break up with you," she replied.
That was how it often went in TV dramas.
Charles said, "We finally got together and I like you so much. How could I bear to break up with you! I love you so much, and I can't get enough of being with you all the time."
Hannah's eyes twinkled mischievously. After thinking for a moment, she said, "How about we go to the movies tonight? We've never been to the cinema together."
Charles readily agreed, "Sure! You can plan it however you like, and I'll go along with whatever you decide!"
Hannah hugged Charles' head, laughing happily.
