Chapter 693 Successfully Fled

Feeling the warmth emanating from Martin's body, Patricia finally felt a sense of reality and security. She had escaped the prison and was back with Martin. As this realization hit her, tears welled up in her eyes. She let go of him, cupped his face with both hands, and fixed her gaze on the man she had missed every day.

"You look much better," she whispered.

Martin was no longer the frail figure he had been. He was gradually regaining his original strength.

Seeing Patricia’s gaunt face, Martin’s eyes reddened. His large hands held her cheeks, and he pressed his cold lips to her forehead before pulling her into another embrace. "I'm sorry, I didn’t protect you well. Trust me, it will get better and better in the future!"

"I believe you. I have always believed in you!" Patricia replied.

Although Martin was reluctant to let go of the long-lost warmth in his arms, he knew that they couldn’t stay here long. They had to leave immediately.

Suppressing his reluctance, Martin released Patricia. "Let's go, we need to leave right away."

Patricia nodded vigorously.

Meanwhile, Maximilian was bidding farewell to Kaleb. Worried that Kaleb might have concerns, Maximilian reassured him, "Uncle, rest assured and leave with Patricia. I will take care of Nexus Holdings! Come back only when Patricia and Martin are safe."

Kaleb hugged Maximilian, gently patting his back. "Take care! If Joe implicates you in this matter, you must tell me."

Maximilian smiled. "No! The position of Nexus Holdings is not something he can easily shake. Besides, isn't there Carol! She won't let Mr. Hill bully me."

Only then did Kaleb release Maximilian with reassurance, holding Carol's hand beside him. "Carol, when I'm not in Country D, I entrust Maximilian to your care!"

The sudden parting made Carol very reluctant. With tears in her eyes, she nodded. "Kaleb, rest assured. I will take good care of Maximilian."

Kaleb rubbed Carol's head. "Carol, if we have the chance to meet again, I will definitely repay you."

Tears streamed down Carol's face, her voice was choked with emotion. "Kaleb, don't say that. You have watched me grow up; you’ve been like a father to me. Besides, Patricia is innocent. It’s only right for me to help you."

After speaking, she urged with reluctance, "It's getting late. You should hurry and leave!"

Maximilian echoed her sentiment. "Yes! Hurry up and leave! I've already arranged everything for you. You can go together."

"Okay," Kaleb nodded, moving to Martin’s side. "Let's leave quickly! Otherwise, it will be too late."

"Alright," Martin and Patricia nodded simultaneously, hand in hand, and reluctantly entered the plane.

Maximilian and Carol stood in the parking lot, looking up at the sky. Soon, the private plane appeared overhead. They kept watching until the plane disappeared from view, then reluctantly looked away.

"I hope their future is smooth, and they don’t encounter such hardships again," Maximilian said quietly.

Carol looked down, gazing at her feet. "They definitely will."

With Patricia's matter finally resolved, Maximilian now had time to contemplate his own affairs. The memory of that unexpected kiss with Carol in the café resurfaced, and he hesitated before speaking, "Carol, about that day in the café, you..."

Carol understood what he was about to ask but feared hearing something she couldn’t bear. She abruptly raised her head and forced a smile.

"Forget about that kiss!"

"What?" Maximilian was puzzled.

Tears welled up in Carol's eyes, her smile bitter. "I know you don't like me. You prefer mature women. In your eyes, I'm just a little girl. It's okay. Let's just be like siblings from now on! I will also treat you as a brother in the future. You don't have to keep your distance because of this. We can still be like before."

Maximilian frowned. "Siblings?"

They had shared a kiss—an intimacy that transcended a simple sibling relationship.

Carol nodded firmly. "Yes, since Billy has passed away, you are now my real brother!"

Without waiting for a response, she opened the car door, climbed in, and as if to escape the conversation, said, "I need to hurry back and check on Joe and Susan. By now, they should be waking up. I'll let you know once they're settled. Be careful when you go back, and try to avoid appearing in front of Joe. I’m afraid he might blame you."

She reversed out of the parking space and drove off, leaving Maximilian standing there, dumbfounded. He touched his face, feeling a strange mix of confusion and regret.

Before that kiss, Maximilian had indeed seen Carol only as a sister. But the kiss had changed something in his world, even though he couldn't quite identify what it was. He wanted to talk to Carol and clarify things, but she hadn’t given him the chance.

On the plane, as it took off and soared into the clouds, Ryan, Martin, Patricia, Sebastian, and Kaleb all breathed a sigh of relief. Ryan exclaimed, "Finally, we're leaving this godforsaken place! Martin's condition is improving, Patricia is out of danger—this is great."

Patricia, sitting with Martin beside her, finally had the chance to express her gratitude. Sebasian and Kaleb were seated across the aisle.

"Ryan, Randy, Kaleb, I owe you so much. If it weren't for you, I might still be locked up right now. I really..."

Her voice broke, and tears spilled down her cheeks like pearls from a broken necklace.

Seeing Patricia's distress, Kaleb's heart ached. "We understand your gratitude! Rest now, and don’t overthink."

Sebastian added, "Yes! You've been through a lot. It's time to rest."

Patricia nodded tearfully.

"I've been locked up and have no idea what has happened outside! Can you tell me what has been going on? Was Billy's body found? Is he really dead?"
