Chapter 996 Violet Deserves Her Fate
Austin's fists were clenched so tight, you could see the veins popping out. He was trying real hard to keep his anger in check.
Stella shot Violet a look that could kill, like she was staring at the nastiest piece of trash ever.
"I can't believe you'd do this to your own sister," Stella spat. "But then again, Shirley's just your sister on paper. You two didn't grow up together, so there's no love lost. One less person means more inheritance for you, right? How could Charles ever fall for someone as nasty as you? The Violet I knew as a kid wasn't like this. Time really does change people."
Lassie broke free from Carter's arms, rushed over to Violet, and slapped her silly, leaving Violet dazed.
After that, she dropped to the ground, bawling her eyes out. "It's my fault. I didn't raise you right, and now look at you! I deserve to die."
Lassie cried for a bit before making up her mind. "Charles, send her to the mental hospital!"
She couldn't risk leaving someone so dangerous out in the world.
Seeing that Lassie had truly given up on her, Violet freaked out. "Mommy, are you abandoning me too? If you send me to the mental hospital, I'd rather die."
She thought this would make Lassie soften up.
But instead, it hit a nerve. Lassie shouted, "Then go ahead and die!"
Lassie was ready to die with Violet if it came to that, but she wouldn't let Violet stay out and keep causing trouble.
Violet was stunned and looked at Carter. "Daddy, are you abandoning me too?"
Carter closed his eyes, looking exhausted, and pinched the bridge of his nose. "If I had known it would come to this, I shouldn't have brought you back. Maybe it would've been better if you stayed in that town forever."
All of Violet's hopes were crushed.
She looked over at Austin.
When she saw the murderous look in his eyes, she started shaking.
Charles turned to Wyatt and said, "Take her away! Make sure the doctors treat her well."
He put extra emphasis on "treat her well."
Wyatt got the message, raised his hand, and had the bodyguards grab Violet.
Violet grabbed a kitchen knife and held it to her neck, backing away. "Don't come any closer. One more step, and I'll kill myself."
But the bodyguards didn't care.
Everyone else just watched her coldly, not reacting at all.
Even Lassie, who used to love her the most, looked like she wanted to strangle Violet herself, with no sign of softening.
Violet was completely desperate, thinking, 'It's over. No one will help me.'
As the bodyguards got closer, Violet's hands went limp, and the knife fell to the ground. She rushed to Lassie like a madwoman, grabbed her hand, and cried, "Mommy, save me. I can't go in there."
Lassie yanked her hand away and snapped, "If you can't handle it, what about your sister? What about Hannah? Did you think about her fear when you were hurting Shirley? Did you think about Hannah when you were hurting her? Violet, you've let me down too many times. I don't have a daughter like you. Aren't you sick? Well, they'll give you the best treatment there. Just stay put!"
With that, Lassie turned away, buried her face in Carter's chest, and didn't look back at Violet.
The bodyguards grabbed Violet by the arms and started dragging her out.
Violet's face twisted with rage, and she started yelling, "If you didn't want me, why did you bring me back? You never cared about me, always saying you owed me and wanted to make it up to me. It's all lies! If you really cared, you wouldn't have had Shirley right after I went missing. You're just covering up your hypocrisy. If I had known, I would've never called you. I'd rather stay in that coffee shop forever than come back to you. I hate you. It was your incompetence that got me kidnapped and kept me away from Charles for seven years. If it weren't for those seven years, he wouldn't have fallen for Hannah. It's all your fault. I hate you, and I'll never forgive you."
Her voice trailed off until it was just a whisper.
Lassie was heartbroken. After Violet was taken away, she leaned into Carter's arms and cried silently.
"She hates us this much," Lassie said. "I was wrong. If I had picked her up and dropped her off every day, she wouldn't have been kidnapped. It's all my fault, making her like this."
Carter felt like his chest was stuffed with cotton, making it hard to breathe.
Saying he wasn't sad would be a lie.
Violet turning out this way definitely made him feel guilty.
But that didn't excuse her actions.
She had to face the consequences.
Stella pouted and said, "I've never seen someone so vicious in my life!"
After a pause, she tried to comfort them, "Actually, you don't need to be sad. This isn't your fault! A kind-hearted person stays kind no matter what they go through. The fact that she turned out this way proves she was always like this. Even if she hadn't been kidnapped, she would've turned out the same."
No one responded.
Charles turned to Carter and Lassie and said, "Carter, Lassie, no matter what mistakes Violet has made, I can forgive her and give her a chance. But this time, she crossed my line. Even if you resent me for this, I won't let her go. She has to be held accountable for her actions."
Compared to others, Violet's punishment was the lightest.
If it weren't for her connection to the Moore family, he wouldn't have just sent her to a mental hospital.
He would've made her regret ever being born.
Carter sighed deeply and said, "You did nothing wrong! She made a mistake and should be held accountable. Lassie and I won't blame you. I understand that if she weren't my daughter, her fate would be much worse! For her, this is the lightest punishment."
Charles replied, "Thank you for understanding! Hannah should be waking up soon, so I'll head back to the hospital."
After sincerely thanking them, Charles left with Stella.
