Chapter 958 Violet Seems Like a Different Person
Hannah kept glancing at the rearview mirror. Once she was sure Charles had taken off with Violet, she let out a big sigh of relief, popped open the car door, and stepped out.
Hannah thought, 'Phew, thank God Violet didn't spot me. With her current mental state, who knows what kind of crazy stuff she might pull. Charles is outta here, so I should head back to the dorm! Haven't been back in days, and Stella's probably freaking out.'
Just as she made up her mind, her phone buzzed in her pocket.
It was a short and sweet text from Charles: [Go to the house and wait for me. The car keys are in the center console.]
Before she could even process that, another one came through: [I'll be back ASAP.]
Hannah stared at the messages for a bit. After some hesitation, she decided to go with Charles' plan. She turned off the car, grabbed her suitcase from the trunk, and with one hand dragging the suitcase and the other clutching her phone, she headed to the elevator.
While riding up, she called Stella.
She figured Stella would be stoked to hear from her.
But nope, Stella's voice was weak and dripping with sarcasm, "Oh, you actually have time to call me. What? Finally remembered I exist?"
Hannah couldn't help but chuckle at her tone.
Knowing Stella was pissed, she playfully said, "I know, I know, I made you worry. My bad! I promise I won't ghost you again."
Stella wasn't having it. "No need. I'm just your roommate, so why should I care!"
Hannah grinned, "I'm really sorry! What do I gotta do to make it up to you? How about I treat you to a meal? Your pick."
Stella laughed, "So, how long has it been since Charles found you? Didn't even bother to text me. Now that you're back, you remember me? I don't need your pity meal!"
Hannah finally got why Stella was mad.
Turns out, Stella was ticked off that Hannah had calmed down but only called her now!
Hannah said, "I'm really sorry! You're the best, and I know you won't stay mad at me, right? Please forgive me, okay?"
Stella wasn't one to hold grudges.
She was just messing with Hannah. Seeing her sincerity, she decided to let it go but didn't show it right away.
Stella said, "Alright! Since you're so sincere, I'll give you a chance. Once I pick a place, I'll let you know. This time, you're gonna spend big."
Hannah beamed, "Thanks! I knew you were the best. Pick whatever you want, and it's on me."
"Then I forgive you." After a pause, Stella asked, "Where are you now? When are you coming back to the dorm? I haven't been back either, been crashing at home."
Hannah replied, "I'm at Charles' place now! Should be back tonight, but not sure exactly when."
Hannah chatted while stepping out of the elevator and unlocking the door with her fingerprint.
Ever since she and Charles made it official, he added her fingerprint to the door lock, so she could come and go as she pleased.
Stella grumbled, "You didn't come see me first when you got back, and you're still with Charles. One day, I'll get a boyfriend and rub it in your face."
Hannah tossed the car keys and suitcase by the door, then flopped onto the sofa, continuing her chat.
Talking was the only thing keeping her mind off Charles and Violet.
Meanwhile...
When Charles and Violet rolled up to Angela's clinic, Carter and Lassie were already there.
To his surprise, Austin was there too.
Then Charles thought, 'Makes sense! Austin's Carter's son and Violet's bro, so it's normal for him to be here.'
Austin looked super awkward when he saw Charles, forcing a smile that looked more like a grimace. "Charles."
Charles ignored him and handed Violet over to Carter.
Carter didn't catch the tension between Charles and Austin. He pulled Violet close, both angry and worried, but couldn't bring himself to scold her. "Don't run off again. Your mom and I were worried sick."
Lassie hugged Violet, tears streaming down her face. "You scared me, Violet. Please don't do that again, okay?"
First, it was a kidnapping.
Then, a suicide attempt.
Now, this was the third time.
It was just the beginning, and Lassie couldn't imagine how long the future would be. How could they live in constant fear?
Violet, though, didn't react, her eyes glued to Charles. Her mind was all about him, ignoring their concern.
Charles was kinda grossed out by her reaction.
Charles thought, 'Carter and Lassie care so much about her and are heartbroken. As their daughter, even if she hasn't remembered them, she shouldn't be so cold like a stranger. Is this still the Violet who used to care about her parents? No! It isn't! She just looks like Violet. She's not the same person anymore. Even if someone loses their memory, their nature doesn't change. After seven years, the current Violet has completely become someone else.'
Charles reminded, "Let's go inside. If we keep stalling, Angela's gonna get mad!"
Violet clung to Charles' arm and said, "I want you to go in with me."
Charles sighed, "Alright, I'll take you in!"
Violet immediately smiled and stopped resisting the treatment.
Charles took Violet into the treatment room and came out after just a few minutes.
Carter apologized, "Charles, I'm sorry for always bothering you! Now that she's inside, you can go. We'll handle the rest."
Charles shook his head. "No need. I promised her I'd wait for her to come out. If she doesn't see me when she comes out, she'll throw a fit again!"
Even though he really wanted to get back to Hannah.
But the current Violet was no longer the Violet she used to be. If he left, who knew what kind of trouble she'd cause.
To avoid a bigger mess, he had to stay.
Charles, Carter, Lassie, and Austin sat outside waiting.
Austin sat across from Charles, his eyes occasionally darting over, looking like he wanted to say something but hesitated.
Carter noticed Austin seemed to have something to say to Charles but wasn't speaking up. He couldn't help but say, "Do you have something to say to Charles?"
Seeing his thoughts exposed by Carter, Austin stood up and cautiously walked over to Charles, smiling. "Charles, I do have something to say to you. Can we talk privately?"
Charles didn't want to deal with him but didn't want to make Carter uncomfortable. After hesitating for a moment, he slowly stood up.
