Chapter 152 Debbie Is Committed to a Mental Hospital

Exiting the elevator, Patricia headed to the doctor's office, while Martin went straight to the ward.

They went in opposite directions.

Just as Patricia reached the office, she overheard colleagues discussing, “Have you heard? Debbie has mental issues now; she’s been committed to the Athens Mental Hospital.”

Another female colleague incredulously asked, “Is that true or just a rumor?”

The male doctor with glasses declared, “Of course it’s true, it’s been on the news. How do you not know! The Watson family had her taken to Cambria Hospital, where a senior psychiatrist from the mental health department issued the diagnosis in person.”

The female doctor sighed deeply, “Think about her. She's beautiful, she’s the Watson family heiress, educated with advanced degrees, and yet she didn’t cherish any of it. She did all sorts of wrong and now has come to this end.”

“Right! She lost her reputation, her face was destroyed, and there’s even a video of that incident circulating online! I bet a lot of men have saved it.”

“I say she got what she deserved. As a doctor, she didn’t help the suffering but was full of schemes. If we don’t expel her now, she’ll only drag us down eventually.”

“That’s correct! If we don’t kick her out now, she might do even worse things in the future. Patients can’t withstand such turmoil.”

After saying this, they turned their attention to Gladys.

“Gladys, your mentor committed so many wrongdoings. Did you know about them?”

Ever since Debbie’s actions had been exposed, Gladys had been very quiet.

Now called out, she bowed her head even lower, shaking it fervently.

“I didn’t know. Debbie kept it all from me. I found out the same time as all of you.”

Seeing her meek response, everyone stopped pressing her. When they saw Patricia come in, they pulled her aside and asked, “Professor Watson, Debbie is your sister, so surely you must be aware of her situation, right?”

Patricia disliked speaking ill of others behind their backs, and her expression darkened as she said, “I don’t know! It’s been five years since I’ve had any connection with the Watson family. She's not my sister, either.”

After a pause, she added, “It’s work hours; we’d better talk about work-related matters.”

With that, she quelled the budding gossip among her colleagues.

She organized the patient’s records, conducted a morning briefing, and then, with the medical charts in hand, began her rounds in the patient wards.

Once Patricia left the office, she hesitated briefly before taking out her smartphone and opening the news.

Sure enough.

Everywhere were reports of Debbie being admitted to the Athens psychiatric hospital.

Some of the news even included photos and videos.

When Patricia played one of the videos, Debbie’s heart-wrenching cries filled the air.

“Where am I? I don’t want to go in; I want to go home. I want to settle accounts with Patricia; I want to kill her. She’s the one who ruined me; I’ll kill her…”

“Dad, Mom… let me go home. I, I swear I’ll behave, I won’t bother you anymore, please, please don’t abandon me.”

“Hehe… Dad, Mom, do you think I’m pretty? Have the scars on my face healed?”

“I want Martin... he said he would marry me, but… *sob*… now he doesn’t want me anymore, he was stolen by that harlot Patricia.”

“I’m going to kill that bastard Randy; it’s all his fault for stopping Martin from marrying me. If I kill him, I can marry Martin…”

Debbie was disheveled, with dirt on her face.

As she turned her head wildly, the camera unintentionally captured her front.

Patricia was immediately startled by her appearance.

Debbie’s once beautiful face was marred with horrific scars, like writhing centipedes.

But what truly frightened her wasn’t the scars, it was how Debbie had caked her face in multicolored makeup, like a palette; the already fierce scars appeared sinister and terrifying under the smudges of color.

No sane person would do this.

Which meant that Debbie was indeed mentally unwell?

And even more so than when Patricia had last seen her.

Gavin and Manda were both in tears, their eyes swollen as they supported Debbie on either side and dragged her into the psychiatric hospital.

Seeing Debbie like this, Patricia didn’t quite know how to feel. After exiting the news app, she headed towards the wards.

Meanwhile, at the Athens Psychiatric Hospital.

Debbie lay against the iron gates, banging her forehead against them repeatedly, making a ‘bang… bang… bang…’ sound, while muttering incessantly to herself.

“ABCDEFG, HIGKLMN.”

After reciting the 26 letters, she’d start over again with “ABCD” and recite them anew.

While reciting, Debbie broke down crying.

"Sobbing, Martin, why—why don't you want me?... What does she have that I don't? Why do you desire her and not me...?"

"Patricia, just you wait. One day I'll break free and have my revenge. I'll ensure you end up even more miserable than I am."

"Martin, Martin... I truly love you, so deeply..."

With those words, she burst into a hollow laugh.

"Remember how happy we were? You promised you'd only ever marry me... Why would you break your word?"

As she mumbled to herself, a dark shadow suddenly enveloped her.

She stiffened for a moment, then continued reciting the alphabet as if nothing had happened.

Observing her subtle expressions, Hunter smirked slightly. "I know you're faking it. There's no one else here; there's no need to keep up the act."

Debbie, as if deaf, kept on with her recitations.

Even as she denied it, Hunter's temper remained even. "I know you've heard that madam Thomas wants you dead. This act is just to dodge her assassins! Despite her having people violate you, ruining your looks, her vengeful nature won't rest while you draw breath. Only if you've lost your mind, living neither like a human nor a ghost, will she feel satisfaction. And only then will you be safe from her and secure your life. So, to escape, you had no choice but to feign insanity and hide here."

Debbie's gaze flickered towards the ground, her demeanor still wild and erratic.

"Don't worry, I'm not one of madam Thomas's. And I certainly won't tell her about your act."

Debbie remained impassive.

After everything that had happened, she couldn’t trust anyone anymore.

"Want freedom? To restore your old self? To have your revenge?" Hunter tempted.

Debbie's frail figure shook visibly.

A sinister cold glint flickered deep within Hunter's gentle eyes. Knowing Debbie wouldn’t easily trust him, he offered an olive branch with a smile. "Let's collaborate. I can get you out of here, out from under madam Thomas's surveillance. I can even help you get back at Patricia and win Martin."

The offer was undeniably alluring to Debbie.

After a struggle between trust and distrust, she took a risk, gradually lifting her head with an unclouded gaze, bereft of any madness.

"What makes you think—"

Her negotiating words cut short when she saw Hunter's face. Her eyes widened bit by bit, her mouth slowly stretching into a sinister, unsettling smile.

It was Hunter, Patricia's childhood friend and neighbor.

What an interesting turn...
