Chapter 975 Discovering Violet's True Identity

Carter was super thankful. "Thanks a ton, Charles! If it wasn't for you, we wouldn't have nabbed this trafficker so fast."

Charles just grinned. "No biggie. Shirley's my sister too. No way I'd let anyone mess with her."

Even though Charles played it cool, Carter was still really grateful.

He'd seen all the stuff Charles had done for his family lately and would never forget it.

"So, what's next?" Carter asked.

Charles glanced at the cop nearby. "Please take her away and give her the punishment she deserves."

Then he turned to Carter. "Country D doesn't mess around with traffickers like Country Z does. If they traffic five kids, it's a life sentence. Ten kids, and it's the death penalty. I just checked their confessions. Their group trafficked thirty kids, so it's definitely the death penalty. Scum like that deserve it. Hopefully, they can find all those kids; otherwise, so many families will be hurting."

Hearing about the death penalty, Carter felt a bit of relief.

After they left the police station, Charles took Carter home and put the phone he got from the cops on the desk.

This was the phone Jennifer used to contact Violet.

All the call logs and transaction records were there.

Jennifer had only given Violet a $2000 deposit, with the rest to be paid after the job was done.

Since the trafficking attempt failed, Jennifer hadn't had a chance to get the $2000 back from Violet before getting caught.

Carter didn't know much about tech and knew he couldn't help, so he just watched Charles work.

Charles easily cracked the phone's lock screen and got into the mobile banking app to find the other party's bank account.

Then he tracked down the account holder through the bank account.

In less than five minutes, all of Violet's info popped up on Charles's computer.

Seeing the info on the screen, Carter thought he was seeing things and rubbed his eyes in disbelief. "No way. How is this possible?"

Charles didn't seem too shocked; it was pretty much what he expected.

Knowing Carter couldn't accept it right away, Charles used the phone number Jennifer had contacted to find the account holder's info.

Violet was malicious but really dumb.

She used her own bank account and phone number to contact Jennifer.

Anyone with half a brain wouldn't use their own phone number to contact Jennifer, just in case they got traced.

But Violet was really dumb and clearly inexperienced.

This time it took even less time.

In two minutes, Violet's personal info popped up on Charles's computer again.

Seeing the two pieces of info match, Carter's face went pale. "How could it be Violet? Charles, did you mess up?"

He had helped Violet set up both the phone number and the bank account.

Because the phone had names saved, he didn't remember the phone number.

And every time he transferred money to Violet, it was an electronic transaction, so he hadn't specifically remembered her bank account number.

Because of this, he didn't recognize the bank account number and phone number when Charles found them.

He never saw this coming.

Charles said firmly, "I didn't mess up! Look at the transaction times. It was the day before yesterday, and they talked four days ago, with a total of ten calls. If one call was a mistake, what about the other nine? It can't be a mistake every time, right?"

His words crushed Carter's last bit of hope.

Carter felt like all the strength had been sucked out of him, and he slumped into the chair, his shoulders sagging.

"Why would it be her?" Carter asked, still in disbelief.

He had considered everyone.

He thought the most likely suspect was a business rival.

He never imagined it would be Violet.

Why would she do this?

Thinking about it, this tall man actually started to cry.

He believed that to make up for the seven years of regret with Violet, he had given her almost all his love, even neglecting Shirley.

But what about Violet?

She had teamed up with Jennifer to try to traffic Shirley and even contacted an illegal organization to sell Shirley's organs.

He couldn't believe Violet was so malicious.

Just thinking about it made him feel horrified.

Charles looked directly at Carter with a serious expression and said, "Actually, there's one more thing you might not know."

Carter looked at him in despair, too weak to speak. "What?"

Charles said, "Yesterday, after Hannah and I rescued Shirley, Shirley said she used the trafficker's phone to call Lassie. The person on the other end pretended to be Lassie and told her to go with the trafficker, saying the trafficker would take her to the police station."

Carter was stunned.

Charles pursed his lips and continued, "Only someone familiar could do this! Who could mimic Lassie's voice so well that even Shirley was fooled? And after Shirley went missing, why didn't she notify you immediately to look for her? The mall is so big, but she was looking alone? Didn't she think Shirley might be in danger? I think she was deliberately stalling for time, waiting for the trafficker to take Shirley away before notifying you and Lassie."

Carter looked desperate.

Seeing he wasn't speaking, Charles pulled up some surveillance footage on the computer and turned the screen to face Carter.

Charles said, "Look, this is the surveillance footage from the underground parking lot. Although there's no surveillance in the restroom, the other areas are covered. Look at the time displayed. From when she took Shirley to the restroom to when she left, it was only three minutes. She was gone for about fifteen minutes before Shirley and the trafficker appeared in another surveillance frame. Yesterday, she explained to us that she had a stomachache and went to the restroom, and when she came out, she didn't see Shirley. But Shirley told Hannah and me that she called out to Violet at the restroom door, but Violet didn't respond. She and the trafficker talked for a long time at the restroom door. If Violet was really in the restroom, she couldn't have missed hearing Shirley's calls."

Carter looked utterly hopeless, his already shattered faith now completely broken.

"So, she was lying all along? Yesterday, she deliberately took Shirley to the parking lot and left on purpose!" Carter asked.

Charles nodded, firmly and decisively saying, "Yes!"
