Chapter 98 Martin and Charles Finally Meet

Ryan suddenly realized that the captain's secretive glances were flashing in his mind.

Knowing he had been fooled, he cursed and turned around, heading back to the deck. "Vern, go and verify their crew members. If we can't find anyone on the entire cargo ship, then the person must be hiding among the crew."

Vern was shocked by his words.

"Yes! We were searching for people, not cargo! It's easier for a person to get exposed when hiding, but if they wear a sailor uniform and blend in with the crew, we wouldn't suspect them."

Ryan was so infuriated that he almost dropped his phone.

The captain, who had just breathed a sigh of relief, watched as Ryan and the others returned. Thinking about how they couldn't find anything despite the big commotion earlier, he became calmer.

"Vern, why are you here again? Did you forget something?" His tone couldn't conceal his satisfaction.

Angered, Vern caressed his beard and glared, "Bring out the list of your crew members. I need to verify their identities!"

"What?" The captain was almost scared out of his wits and stammered, "Why do you suddenly need to verify their identities?"

Vern didn't hide anything and directly stated, "There have been recent incidents of human trafficking, and we must investigate thoroughly! Don't worry, if there's no issue, I won't give you a hard time. I'm just fulfilling the mission assigned to me."

The captain was horrified and began to stutter, but he still didn't comply.

"Well, uh..."

Seeing his reaction, Vern immediately understood.

He narrowed his eyes and angrily shouted, "Hurry up! Are you pretending to transport goods while actually engaging in human trafficking activities?"

The captain stumbled in fear, nearly falling to the ground as he hastily denied, "No, no, I would never dare!"

Vern shouted, "Then what are you standing there for? Hand me the list and duty roster!"

The captain signaled to the vice-captain with his eyes, "Go get the crew list and duty roster."

Understanding his captain's signal, the vice-captain was about to leave when Vern reminded him, "And the employment form as well. Without it, registration photos will do."

The captain's face turned pale instantly. He had only planned to bring the list and have Roger pretend to be one of the crew members to deceive them.

He hadn't expected that they would also need the employment form. And on the employment form was a registration photo.

Once they compared it, Roger's identity would be exposed immediately.

Since there was no avoiding it, the vice-captain reluctantly left.

Seeing that something was off, Roger lowered his head, intending to quietly leave.

But before he could take two steps back, Ryan called out to him, "Where do you think you're going?"

Roger grinned awkwardly, trying to please, "I have a stomachache and want to go to the restroom."

Ryan signaled to a nearby sea supervisor, "Go with him! During these special times, no one is allowed to leave until we have verified your identities."

Roger dared not say more and turned to walk towards the restroom in the cabin. The sea supervisor couldn't enter, so they stayed outside the door, keeping watch.

Once inside the restroom, Roger locked the door from the inside and quietly opened the window.

With everyone on the deck and no one guarding here, he took this opportunity and immediately climbed out of the window.

After escaping from the restroom, Roger made his way unimpeded to the cargo hold. He looked up to where Charles was stuffed into a sack and placed on a beam, planning to escape with him.

But before he could make any move, there suddenly came a flurry of hurried footsteps outside the door.

"Are you sure he came in here?"

"I saw him with my own eyes!"

"I knew he was up to something..."

As Roger listened to the conversation outside the door, he immediately realized he had been deceived. He quickly opened the secret window to climb out.

Unfortunately, there were already people guarding outside the secret window.

As he stuck his head out, someone gripped his collar, dragging him out, saying, "Knew you would try to run. There are people everywhere here. Where do you think you're going?"

Roger's face turned pale. He knew this time he couldn't escape completely.

The door to the cargo hold was opened, and Ryan entered with a crowd of sea supervisors.

Roger was also pulled in by someone from the front entrance.

Ryan immediately called Martin, "Boss, we've caught him. I'm in the cargo hold right now. You and the second-in-command come here right away!"

As soon as he finished speaking, the call ended.

Ryan instructed someone to fetch three chairs and casually sat on one, crossing his legs with an evil grin directed at Roger.

"Tell me, where did you hide Charles?"

Roger pretended to be ignorant, saying, "I don't know what you're talking about! Who's Charles?"

Ryan raised an eyebrow, "Still pretending?"

Roger laughed, "I admit I committed the crime of illegal immigration, but I only smuggled myself. You guys are making a big fuss over nothing."

He knew the authorities wouldn’t deport him, rather they would sentence him for several years. But trafficking people is a completely different matter. If it's severe, you could get a life sentence.

So obviously, he didn't admit to trafficking people!

Ryan clapped for him, saying, “Well done! I hope you can still be as confident when facing my boss later!"

Roger didn't take his words to heart.

After all, the worst that could happen is being deported; they wouldn't dare give him the death penalty, right?

Before long, Martin and Carter arrived. Martin took a seat in the middle. Carter sat on the other side.

When he saw Martin, Roger's entire demeanor changed.

"Martin!"

Martin sneered, "It seems you know me?"

"......??"

Martin was like a deity in Ivara, known by everyone.

Martin didn't waste any words and went straight to the point, "Where are they?"

Knowing Martin's methods, if he confessed, it would be a dead end. Roger could only continue pretending to be clueless, with a brave face, "What people? There's really only me!"

Martin said, "Sean is already dead, I chopped off Grant's hands and feet, and threw him into the sea to be eaten by sharks. Do you also want to taste this?"

Hearing this, Roger's face went pale.

"What did you say? My boss is dead? Grant is dead too? No, it can't be..."

Martin took out his phone and showed him some pictures.

The first picture showed Sean's dead body on the ground, and the second one showed Grant missing hands and legs, lying in a pool of blood, tortured beyond recognition.

Compared to Sean, Grant's condition could only be described as inhumane.

"How could this happen? How did they die?"

Martin didn't answer him, his expression emotionless, "You can choose not to speak, but your fate will be worse than Grant's! I'll give you till the count of three—"

As he spoke, he raised five fingers and put down one finger for each word.

"One..."

"Two..."

With each finger that Martin put down, Roger's nerves tensed up completely. His sweat poured down like rain, dripping continuously. Within a moment, his clothes were soaked.

The horrifying image of Grant's tragic death lingered in his mind.

The fear of having his own hands and feet chopped off and thrown into the sea to be eaten by sharks terrified him.

"Three..."

As soon as the last finger was lowered, the tension that had been building up in Roger snapped.

Pointing up with a shattered voice, he confessed, "I'll tell you... I hid him in the beams..."

He had long heard of Martin's ruthless methods, and the number of people who had died by his hands was countless.

Now it seemed that those were not just rumors, they were true.

Unfortunately, Martin's power in Ivara was overwhelming, and no one dared to meddle. If he resisted, he would surely meet a dead end.

With his boss dead, there was no need for him to risk his own life.

After hearing his words, everyone's gaze instinctively looked up at the beams.

They saw a sack hanging from the beams.

When Charles appeared, Ryan cursed again, "Damn, no wonder we couldn't find him. Who would have thought he would be hidden on the beam? Hurry... hurry and take him down..."

Everyone immediately brought a ladder and climbed up, carefully taking down the burlap sack.

Unable to wait, Ryan and Carter walked over, eager to see who this child, born to Patricia and another man, truly was.

Martin remained cold and motionless, refusing to even look at him.

As the burlap sack was untied, Charles' little face came into view...
