Chapter 38 Five years after the divorce, they slept again

The road was dark.

Martin's tall figure was shrouded in the dim streetlight, his face unreadable.

Patricia struggled to keep herself calm, and without moving, she stuffed the bag into her purse and slowly turned around with Randy in tow.

A powerful chill swept toward her.

Although she couldn't see Martin's complexion, she could clearly feel that he was angry.
The cold air he was emitting was madly channeled toward her.

The emptiness of her heart made Patricia inexplicably nervous, fearing she had been caught, unsure how much Martin had witnessed.

She licked her dry lips and tried not to let her voice tremble, "Randy knows I'm back, so he came to pick me up!"

Martin strode with broad strides closing the distance between them quickly.

As he approached them, the air around him thinned.

Patricia's eyes dodged around sheepishly, not daring to look at him directly.

Her expression faltered under Martin's gaze, adding another layer to his suspicions. He swept his gaze coldly over her backpack, his face devoid of any expression as if he'd crawled out of hell.

"How do you let a four-year-old come out at night to pick you up, Patricia?" he asked in a sarcastic tone.

A cold sweat seeped down Patricia's back, her weakness preventing her mind from functioning properly in thought.

"I-I didn't think about it that much! I'll pay attention next time." Patricia hurriedly defended.

The expression on Martin's face still didn't improve.

The woman abandoned her four-year-old son to go on a date with another man. He wished he could strangle her, and even pry open her brain to see what was inside.

Thinking he was bullying Patricia, Randy forcefully pushed him away and spread his arms in front of Patricia, shielding her.

"I came out on my own to pick mommy up, it has nothing to do with her." Randy shouted.

The more Randy defended Patricia; the grimmer Martin's expression became.

He squatted down, lifted Randy up, and walked away without looking back, heading toward the mansion in silence.

With her head down, Patricia followed obediently behind.

After returning home, Patricia thought the matter would be over, but Martin persisted, "Where did you go today? Who did you meet?"

Patricia casually replied, "Just a friend!"

Martin sneered in a cold voice, "A friend? Is it Hunter?"

Patricia looked up with surprise evident on her face, "How do you know Hunter?"

"How could I not know Hunter?" Martin self-deprecatingly smiled, "My wife sleeps in my arms, and she dreams of calling out that name for two whole years. How would I not know him?"

It was as if Patricia had been struck by lightning, her mind went blank and thunderous.

She had been dreaming of calling out Hunter's name? She never knew. Martin had never told her.

Her reaction only deepened Martin's misunderstanding and mockery, "Congratulations, you finally got what you wanted and ended up with him."

"No, we..." Patricia tried to explain, but when she met Martin's mocking gaze, she suddenly regained her composure and retorted,

"We have already divorced. It's none of your business who I'm with. It's my freedom. If you have time to meddle in other people's affairs, you better take care of your own fiancée first."

With that, she took her pajamas and went to the bathroom to take a shower.

Martin was so infuriated that his teeth were trembling... he wished he could strangle her.

Randy sat gloomily on the edge of the bed, feeling down as he watched them argue.

Noticing his distress, Martin took a deep breath, suppressed his emotions, and walked over, softly asking, "Randy, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

Randy had a mournful face and said, "Daddy, why do you and mommy argue every day? I don't want you to fight."

"..." Martin was momentarily speechless.

Seeing him silent, Randy continued, "I don't like Debbie. I don't want her to be my mommy. I want my own mommy. Can you and mommy get back together, please?"

Martin's throat tightened, and his emotions were complicated. He felt a strange heaviness in his chest.

Looking up, Randy innocently asked, "Daddy, do you like mommy?"

Avoiding the topic, Martin said lightly, "Children shouldn't get involved in adult matters."

Pouting, Randy grumbled, "I like my mommy. I want to be with her every day. I also like daddy and want to be with him all the time. You're the most important people to me."

His son expressed his true feelings for the first time, and Martin's cold heart gradually warmed up. He couldn't help but rub his head affectionately and said, “Daddy likes you too.”

Randy immediately asked, “Does Daddy like Mommy?”

“No...” Martin couldn't bring himself to say the word 'like' as he looked into Randy's hopeful eyes. It got stuck in his throat, no matter how hard he tried.

Seeing Randy's eyes dimming little by little, Martin's heart tightened. Without thinking, he said, “Of course, Daddy likes Mommy.”

Patricia, who had just come out of the bathroom, happened to hear this sentence. She stood dumbfounded at the door, her face full of disbelief.

When Randy heard the answer, he finally smiled and asked, “Daddy really likes Mommy?”

Martin nodded emphatically, “Yes, really.”

Randy jumped up happily, “That’s great! Daddy likes Mommy, Randy also likes Mommy... Then, you two shouldn't argue anymore. I don’t like seeing you fight.”

Martin's heart ached, and he smiled gently, “Alright! No more fighting.”

Randy danced with joy and caught sight of Patricia standing at the bathroom door. He ran over and pulled her over, saying, “Mommy, Daddy said he likes you! Do you also like Daddy?”

Patricia was momentarily dumbfounded and initially wanted to deny it. But seeing Martin repeatedly signaling her with his eyes, she nodded reluctantly, “Yes! I do.”

Randy placed their hands together.

Martin and Patricia simultaneously felt a jolt, as if touched by a spark.

Excitedly, Randy said, “Tonight, I want Daddy and Mommy to sleep with me.”
Patricia was stunned, trying to figure out what had happened while she was taking a shower for such a sudden change to occur.

Before Patricia could speak, Martin couldn't bear to see Randy disappointed and quickly agreed, “Okay, Daddy and Mommy will sleep with you tonight.”

Patricia glared fiercely at Martin, silently asking him what he meant. But Martin pretended not to see her threats and played dumb.

For the past four years, Randy had never slept with his parents. He couldn't wait to bring them to the bed.

Martin slept on the left side, Patricia on the right, and Randy slept in the middle, holding their hands and placing them on his belly.

Patricia resisted with all her might, even her eyebrows were furrowed.

“Daddy, Mommy, do you know, I have always envied children who have their parents accompanying them from childhood to adulthood! I never thought I would have this day too, it's really nice!”

Randy closed his eyes, his face filled with happiness.

His words instantly silenced Patricia, who had been pushing away. Thinking about Randy's experiences these past four years, her eyes unknowingly reddened. She lovingly embraced him.

“Randy, don't worry, Mommy and Daddy will always be with you from now on, making you the happiest child in the world.” Patricia comforted him.

Randy happily snuggled into Patricia's arms.

Sniffing the fragrance from his mother gave him comfort and drowsiness quickly overcame him. Perhaps playing all day had tired him out, and before long, he fell asleep.

Patricia gently patted his back, softly humming a lullaby.

The dim bedside lamp emitted a faint light, enveloping her with a warm and tranquil aura, making her profile appear even softer and more affectionate.

Martin's heartbeat quickened instantly and his mouth became dry.
