Chapter 752 A Near Miss

Oliver was still crying, "Daddy, Mommy, I'm scared. Please save me. I don't want to die. Daddy, Mommy."

Layla's heart shattered at his cries. Seeing that Miles had spilled everything, she quickly turned to Ariel, "You've got what you wanted. Can you let my son go now?"

Ariel sneered, "If I let him go, will you let me leave?"

Layla's face darkened, "Are you breaking your promise?"

Ariel scoffed, "I'm not as despicable as you. Once I'm leave here, I'll let him go! Now move aside."

Miles said nothing, pulling Layla aside to clear the way for Ariel.

Ariel, holding Oliver with one hand and gripping a fork with the other, slowly moved towards the door.

Terrified, Oliver struggled instinctively.

Ariel, heavily pregnant and clumsy, couldn't dodge in time, and the fork in her hand plunged into Oliver's neck.

Blood instantly stained the area around the wound.

Oliver, even more frightened, cried out louder from the intense pain in his neck, "It hurts so much."

The more Oliver struggled and cried, the harder it was for Ariel.

Just as she finally reached the door, Oliver suddenly turned his head and bit down hard on her hand.

Ariel gasped in pain and instinctively let go.

Miles seized the opportunity, pulling Oliver over and pushing him into Layla's arms.

Layla held Oliver tightly, tears streaming down her face.

Layla said, "Oliver, are you okay? Does it hurt? Let me see!"

In Layla's arms, Oliver cried even harder, clutching her waist tightly. In no time, his tears soaked Layla's clothes.

Oliver cried, "Mommy, my neck hurts so much. Am I going to die?"

Layla tenderly stroked his head to comfort him, "No, you won't die. As long as I'm here, I won't let anyone hurt you."

Oliver sobbed, "Does Daddy not want me anymore?"

He was still young and didn't understand much.

But he had understood Miles' words earlier.

Miles had said that even without Oliver, there would be a second and third child.

Miles didn't want Oliver anymore.

Layla immediately reassured him, "No, Daddy would never not want you! Daddy was just lying to that lady to save you! Daddy loves you very much!"

Though she comforted Oliver this way, Layla's heart bore an indelible scar.

It made her realize at that moment that Miles was not reliable.

He didn't love Layla, nor did he love Oliver.

He was very selfish.

For the sake of herself and Oliver, Layla needed to make plans early.

Meanwhile, as Miles pulled Oliver away, Ariel knew she had lost her only bargaining chip and quickly opened the door behind her to run out.

Miles, having no time to worry about Oliver, immediately chased after her.

Ariel ran to the elevator and frantically pressed the button!

Unfortunately, it was rush hour for work and school, and the elevator stopped at almost every floor. She was on the 15th floor and couldn't wait for the elevator to come up.

Ariel decided to escape via the stairs.

But as soon as she turned, Miles blocked her way.

Miles grabbed her wrist, "You know all my secrets. Do you think I'll let you leave?"

Ariel's face went pale. She was terrified but forced herself to stay calm, "What? Are you planning to imprison me? Let me tell you, everyone in the Koch family knows I came here. If I go missing, they'll come looking for me! Even though the Koch family is in trouble now, you can't possibly be against them with your current resources!"

Miles didn't buy it. He raised his eyebrows and said, "Do you think I'm an idiot? I've been with the Koch family for years. I know all of you inside out! You're pregnant! They'd never let you come find me while carrying a child. If I'm right, you must have snuck out alone this time!"

Ariel felt a wave of panic in heart.

Miles stared at Ariel's beautiful face and said, "You know, you're quite beautiful. There was a moment when I almost fell in love with you. But your heart has always been with the Koch family, never with me. Layla is different. She has nothing but me. She always puts me first. I need a woman who genuinely likes me, who can silently support me, not someone whose heart is only with her family."

To be honest, any man would be moved by a beautiful woman.

And Ariel was really beautiful, at least in Miles's eyes, more beautiful than any woman he had ever met. Her privileged upbringing and excellent family education gave her an innate elegance that other women lacked. She had grace, beauty, talent, and gentleness.

Miles, being a normal man, was naturally attracted to such an outstanding woman.

Miles had once thought that when he finally took over the Koch family, he wouldn't abandon her. He and Ariel would still be husband and wife.

But what a pity! Ariel's heart was only with the Koch family. She never truly cared for Miles.

If it weren't for the plan he devised in college to rescue Ariel from danger, she wouldn't have liked him or married him.

If a woman truly loves her husband, she wouldn't be oblivious to her husband's affairs and children outside.

Ariel was a good granddaughter, a good sister and a good elder sister, but she was definitely not a good wife.

Hearing Miles' words, Ariel felt sick. When Miles was in contemplation, she pushed him away and ran towards the stairwell. But after just a few steps, her hair was grabbed from behind and yanked forcefully.

Ariel felt as if her scalp was being torn off, gasping in pain.

Miles, pulling her hair, tried to drag her back into the apartment.

At that moment, dozens of black-clad bodyguards emerged from the stairwell, surrounding them.

Riley and Martin stepped out from behind the crowd, exuding a chilling aura like demons from hell.

Seeing Miles roughly pulling Ariel's hair, Riley's eyes turned icy cold, his voice menacing, "Let her go!"

Miles, seeing the sudden appearance of the group, knew he was doomed.

He was utterly finished!

All his meticulous planning over the years had come to naught. But he was unwilling to accept it. He had worked so hard, now possessing wealth, women, and status.

He couldn't lose it all now.

Miles, with his left hand pulling Ariel's hair, placed his right hand in front of her eyes, "Don't come any closer, or I'll poke her eyes out."
