Chapter 1145 Lassie Stands Up for Hannah
Lisa felt like she was being bombarded with a thousand daggers, making her incredibly uncomfortable.
Despite this, she stood her ground, convinced she wasn't in the wrong. She lifted her chin, trying to look more intimidating. "Do I need you to teach me how to be a mother? I know my daughter better than any of you. She's stubborn and won't change. I'm doing the right thing by disciplining her, and you all are just clueless."
With that, she tried to drag Hannah away. "Get home with me, you disgraceful thing!"
Once home, she'd show her what a real beating was.
As Lisa reached out, Hannah skillfully dodged and hid behind Lassie.
Lisa's hand grabbed at empty air, her face darkening with anger.
She felt the surrounding gazes becoming even more mocking.
"Look at that, her daughter would rather hide behind a stranger than go with her. She must be a terrible mother."
"Exactly! Those injuries on the girl must be from her!"
"Hey, now that you mention it, I remember hearing crying from their apartment when they first moved in. I didn't think much of it then, but now it seems like she was abusing her daughter."
"Right, I remember hearing it too! It was constant back then, though it's been quieter recently."
"So you all heard it too! I heard it as well, but couldn't pinpoint which apartment it was coming from. Now it’s clear it was theirs."
"Oh my God! Daily abuse, making her daughter scream! How twisted can a mother be?"
"Totally, if she wasn't mentally disturbed, why would she abuse her own daughter? She even watched coldly as her daughter was harassed, throwing dirt on her instead of helping."
"Her daughter is so pitiful, stuck with such a mother."
"Heartbreaking! So sad."
Lisa's face turned beet red from their words, feeling utterly humiliated.
She glared at Hannah, gritting her teeth. "Hannah, come out and explain to them that I didn't abuse you! Tell them those injuries aren't from me, hurry up."
Seeing Lisa's warning look and tone, Hannah timidly peeked out from behind Lassie.
She knew if she didn't defend Lisa today, she'd face another brutal beating at home.
These people had just been insulting her, and now they were insulting Lisa.
Such fickle people couldn't help her.
She'd still be the one facing Lisa's wrath at home.
So, just as Hannah hesitated to defend Lisa, the man who had been hit by Lassie earlier stood up, clutching his bleeding head, and charged at Lassie. "You bitch, how dare you hit me! I'll beat you to death!"
The man was drunk, his steps unsteady.
Lassie easily dodged while protecting Hannah.
The man missed his target.
Still unsatisfied, Lassie kicked him in the butt. "I saw everything clearly. The girl was just trying to go home, and you stopped her, offering her $500 to sleep with you. When she threatened to call for help, you said no one would believe her, not even her mother!
You scumbag, she's just a teenager, a minor! And you harass her? People like you deserve to die."
The man fell to the ground, crying out in pain.
Lassie took advantage of his disorientation and kicked him several more times. "I'll teach you a lesson for bullying a young girl."
Lassie had lived for over forty years, growing up in an environment that made her very timid.
Her marriage to Carter was a family arrangement, with no emotional foundation.
She had thought marrying a stranger couldn't be worse than living in the Bennett family.
As long as she could escape the Bennett family's hell, she didn't care who she married.
After marrying Carter, they had no romantic feelings but treated each other with respect. Carter's unfortunate childhood brought their hearts closer.
They truly fell in love.
Carter was exceptional.
He was handsome, successful, and capable. Even though he didn't love her initially, he treated her well, standing up for her when she was wronged, remembering her mother's death anniversary, her birthday, and their wedding anniversary.
Any woman would inevitably fall for him, so she was no exception.
In this relationship, she started off feeling insignificant.
Later, she realized Carter loved her too.
He told her not to bottle up grievances but to fight back.
As Carter's woman, she didn't need to endure any injustice and could retaliate if she disliked someone.
Under Carter's pampering, her personality underwent a drastic change, no longer timid.
Even so, she had never hit anyone before.
Today was her first time hitting someone.
She found it incredibly satisfying.
Thinking about the man slandering her daughter, ruining her reputation, and causing her to be beaten, she felt furious, unable to vent her anger no matter how much she hit him.
The man cried out, unable to fight back.
Seeing someone stand up for her, Hannah finally smiled.
Since returning to Lisa, she had forgotten how to smile. Today, she smiled again.
Lisa saw things were going wrong and tried to sneak away.
Lassie noticed her attempt to flee and quickly grabbed her arm. "Where are you going? Feeling guilty? Trying to run?"
Lisa tried to break free, but Lassie's grip was too strong. "Let go of me! I'm her mother. How I discipline my daughter is none of your business!"
Lassie got even angrier at her words and slapped her several times.
Lisa saw stars from the hits.
Lassie pointed at her nose and scolded, "You still know she's your daughter! Other mothers do everything to protect their daughters, but you? You make her work to support your family of leeches!
Not only that, but you never give her any recognition, abusing her daily!
This man has harassed her multiple times, and what do you do? You join in bullying her, cursing her!
She's just a teenager! Do you know how much your actions hurt her young heart?
Because of you, she stays trapped in her past memories, refusing to wake up.
Even if she's not your biological daughter, she's created a lot of wealth for the White family. You shouldn't treat her like this! Without her, what would you live?
Do you remember what Austin told you when he entrusted her to you?
He asked you to take good care of her, giving you so much money every year. Is this how you take care of her?
If Austin knew about her life with you, do you think he wouldn't kill you?"
