Chapter 747 Probing
Meanwhile, at the Mayo Clinic in Country Y.
Brooke, who had been in a coma for a day and a night, finally woke up.
As soon as she opened her eyes, a dark face loomed over her, making her jump. Once her vision cleared, she realized it was Sebastian.
Brooke patted her racing heart, still shaken, "Why do you look like that?"
But talking too much made the wound on her head throb painfully.
"It hurts. It really hurts," she groaned.
Sebastian's gaze was icy, "You know what pain is?"
Brooke instinctively reached for the back of her head, feeling the bandage wrapped around it.
"What happened to me?" she asked, her mind foggy and unable to recall.
Sebastian's lips twisted into a mocking smile, "Think harder."
Brooke found his attitude baffling and tried to piece together her memories. Slowly, she remembered what had happened before she lapsed into coma.
She recalled trying to strangle Patricia in a fit of rage. Then she felt a sharp pain at the back of her head, and everything went dark.
Could someone have hit her from behind? But who?
She had gone in after Martin had left. Besides Patricia, only Hunter was at home.
Could it have been Hunter? But that didn't make sense! Why would Hunter help Patricia?
Patricia and Martin had treated Hunter so poorly. Shouldn't Hunter hate them?
Brooke's head throbbed as she tried to make sense of it all but couldn't come up with an answer.
Seeing Brooke's expression, Sebastian knew she had remembered everything. He suddenly stood up and said sternly, "Why did you try to hurt Patricia? She's my sister, a member of the Koch family."
Brooke already hated Patricia, and seeing Sebastian scold her for Patricia's sake made her even angrier.
Brooke said, "Why? You ask me why? Isn't it for you and Jeremy? What has she ever contributed to this family? Why should she get to share your things as soon as she comes back?"
Sebastian felt helpless, "Mom, I've told you. I'm not interested in business! Jeremy doesn't have a talent in it either! The dividends from the shares we hold are more than enough for us for several lifetimes. Why fight for Patricia's share? Besides, even without the Koch Group's dividends, I can support myself. I don't care about anything from the Koch Group."
Brooke was nearly driven mad with anger.
Brooke said, "You can support yourself, but what about your brother? Don't forget. He is your real brother. Riley, Ariel, and Patricia are just Justin and Elise's children. Why do you always side with them?"
Sebastian realized that no matter what he said, Brooke wouldn't listen.
Sebastian said, "Anyway, let me make this clear. I absolutely won't allow you to harm Patricia. If anything happens to her, I'll donate the shares I get from her. Just give it up!"
Brooke was furious.
Even the wound at the back of her head began to throb, making her feel like her head was about to explode.
Brooke said, "You're like this, and so does Jeremy. Why is Riley so ambitious while you two don't fight for anything? And your useless father... One day, you'll all make me mad to death."
Sebastian sighed deeply in exasperation.
He turned on the TV in the hospital room and switched to the news channel.
A pleasant female voice filled the room, "The Koch Group's stock price has hit a new low, falling below its previous lowest point! Virtual Sparkle Group strongly demands a public apology from the Koch Group's current CEO, Shane Getty, and Executive Vice President, Riley Koch, and compensation for their losses."
It continued, "Reportedly, the Koch Group has yet to respond to the plagiarism allegations. Vice President Riley has also not provided any explanation or solution."
Brooke, lying in bed, couldn't see the TV but could hear the broadcast.
At first, she didn't react, but then she smirked, "Serves him right. He can't handle such a big company, and now look, there's trouble! Let's see if Shane still values him."
Sebastian stared at her in shock, "The Koch Group is in trouble, and you think this benefits us?"
Brooke, smug, replied, "How does it not benefit us? At least it makes me feel better."
Sebastian stayed silent, just watching her.
Feeling uncomfortable under his gaze, Brooke suddenly remembered something and sat up abruptly. The pain in her head, which had felt like it was about to explode, suddenly seemed to vanish.
Seeing that Brooke had come to her senses, Sebastian's expression softened a bit.
Brooke said, "We share a common future, and a loss for one is a loss for all! How could I forget such an important thing?"
Sebastian sighed, "Everything we have now is thanks to the Koch family. Without them, I wouldn't have been able to study abroad. Without them, no one would have believed in my abilities when I was just starting out. I believe in my abilities, but others might not."
Brooke understood.
After all, the case that made Sebastian famous was one he worked for the Secretary General of Country Y.
Their family knew of Sebastian's abilities, but others didn't. No matter how much you boast, people wouldn't believe it.
The Secretary General dared to entrust such an important case to Sebastian because of his close relationship with Shane.
Without the Koch family, no matter how capable Sebastian was, he couldn't have achieved his current status.
The Koch family couldn't go bankrupt, absolutely not.
Seeing that Brooke had fully understood, Sebastian asked, "Let me ask you, how did you know Patricia was staying at the hotel? Why did you go to find her? And recently, you seem to have a particularly deep prejudice against her. Why?"
"Well..." Brooke's eyes flickered with guilt, unable to meet Sebastian's gaze.
Sebastian asked firmly, "Did someone say something about Patricia in front of you?"
Brooke bit her lip tightly, neither admitting nor denying it.
Sebastian knew Brooke too well and could guess the answer from her behavior. He sighed, "When did you start colluding with him?"
Brooke, feeling guilty, said, "What? Colluding with whom? I'm not colluding with anyone."
Sebastian said speechlessly, "Haven't you realized you've been used? He deliberately sowed discord between you and Patricia, using you to deal with Patricia, distracting us, and then attacking the Koch Group from behind."
Brooke broke out in a cold sweat, staring at Sebastian in disbelief, "Are you saying the company's trouble this time is his doing?"
Sebastian nodded. "Yes! Riley has long known there was a spy in the Koch family. After capturing Hunter this time, he used the opportunity to lure out Rock and the spy. Today, Riley, Martin, and I were planning to interrogate him together, but then your incident happened."
Brooke's face instantly turned extremely ugly.
She felt a deep sense of anger at being manipulated.
