Chapter 39 Caught by Debbie in the Same Bed

After making sure Randy was fast asleep, Martin suppressed his restless desires and whispered, "Let's make a promise!"

"Hmm?" Patricia looked at him puzzled.

Martin lowered his voice and said,

"Randy doesn't like it when we argue! Parents fighting can cause irreparable pain in a child's heart! Whether you like it or not, I hope that when Randy is present, we can pretend to be a harmonious family."

Patricia was well aware of Randy's fragile inner world compared to that of other children.

For the sake of their child, she never hesitated not at all and readily agreed to Martin's proposal, "Alright! With Randy around, I'll do my best to control my temper."

After speaking, she gently released Randy and prepared to roll over and get off the bed. But Martin grabbed her wrist and said with a speechless tone,

"What are you doing?" he asked.

"Going to sleep in the guest room," Patricia replied.

Martin sighed heavily, "Randy doesn't feel secure and he'll definitely wake up at night looking for someone. If he finds you're not there, it'll hurt him." Martin explained.

"......??" Patricia felt awkward as she asked, "Then what should we do? Should we really sleep like this tonight?"

Martin scanned her from head to toe and said, "Don't worry, I'm not interested in you! Besides, there is a child between us."

"You are so mean!" Patricia silently gnashed her teeth.

If possible, she really didn't want to stay here for another minute.

Martin turned around, facing away from her and in a place, she couldn't see, a faint smile curled up on his thin lips, reaching his eyes.

Patricia clenched her small fists and swung them towards his back, filled with anger.

Martin looked at the shadow of her fists on the floor and the smile in his eyes deepened. His heart swelled with contentment, as if something was about to overflow.

After swinging her fists for a while, Patricia felt powerless and lay down on her side.

Just then, Martin's phone on the bedside table rang. It was a voice message from Debbie.

Afraid of waking Randy, Martin adjusted the volume to the minimum and played the message.

"Martin, I really know my mistake, please don't ignore me, okay? Do you remember what you promised me before? You said you would take care of me for a lifetime and love only me! You can't go back on your words."

"Martin, can you please reply to my message? I really still love you, I can't be without you, without you, I'll die!" Debbie continued with her plea.

"Martin, I know I did something wrong, but it's because I love you, I'm afraid that Patricia will take you away from me."

"You know what? Ever since she came back, I haven't been able to sleep at night. I'm afraid she'll take you away, take Randy away. You two are everything to me. If I lose you, what's the point of living?"

"Martin, can you talk to me, please..."

The voice messages came in one after the other, giving Martin no time to react.

The room fell into a dead silence. Despite Martin lowering his phone volume to the minimum, every word still reached Patricia's ears.

Debbie’s nauseating words disgusted Patricia, giving her goosebumps. She couldn't understand what kind of sentiment the cold and aloof Martin had towards Debbie.

Could it be that they were just as nauseating?

Martin remained silent.

Debbie continued sending message after message. Martin opened each one and listened, and they were all filled with sickly sweet words.

Seeing that he didn't respond, Debbie bombarded him with phone calls and messages.

Annoyed by the constant noise, Patricia finally couldn't bear it any longer and sat up.

"Mr. Langley, could you please answer the phone? If you don't want to, just turn off your phone. It's really annoying when it keeps ringing like that! It's preventing me from sleeping."

Martin also sat up, looking at her with a smirk. "What? Are you jealous?"

His words amused Patricia. "Jealous? Me? You're way too narcissistic!"

Martin maliciously lifted the corners of his mouth. "If that's the case, why are you so angry?"

His twisted logic baffled Patricia.

"Mr. Langley, it's late and I want to sleep! You're making too much noise! If you don't want to pay her any attention, you can turn off your phone instead of letting it ring all the time!” Patricia continued.

“Do you know that I've never heard anything so disgusting? It's making me want to throw up my dinner! I never knew you had such low taste in women."

Martin's intense and deep eyes captured her, seemingly pondering the truth behind her words.

Patricia continued, "Randy just fell asleep. Kids have shallow sleep, and I don't want to wake him up! If you can't bear to turn off your phone, please go outside and talk to her, and then come back when you're done!"

After finishing her words, Patricia turned over and lay down again.

Martin squinted his eyes, his face his expression was stormy, filling the whole room with gloom.

In just a few minutes of distraction, Debbie had sent dozens of messages again. Martin gave Patricia a cold glance, grabbed his phone, and went outside.

Taking this opportunity, Patricia immediately went to the balcony and initiated a video call with Charles.

He answered almost instantly.

Concerned, Charles asked, "Mommy, I've arrived home safely. Did you and Randy go back too? That bastard of a father didn't find out anything, right?"

Patricia shook her head. "No! Randy really likes Fannie, and they might become friends who hang out often in the future! Are... are you angry? Do you think mommy is favoring him?"

Charles laughed. "Why would I be! I know my situation is special, and it's not suitable for me to interact with my little brother frequently..."

"But it was nice to meet him!" Charles spoke in a way that comforted Patricia. His understanding made Patricia feel sorry for him.

"If you really miss Randy, we can meet again using the same method as today! Even though you can't recognize each other, I hope you can spend more time together in the limited time." Patricia encouraged.

Charles nodded vigorously, "Okay! I'll listen to Mommy!"

It was getting late, and after chatting for a while, they ended the call. The surroundings were eerily quiet.

The balcony here was connected to the one next door. Martin's deep voice intermittently came from the next room.

She didn't feel like listening, so she went back to her room and Martin didn't come back until Patricia fell asleep.

The next day.

Patricia slowly woke up.

Just as she opened her eyes, she unexpectedly caught sight of a flawless and exquisitely crafted handsome face.

He truly was the most perfect work of art sculpted by God, with his slanting eyebrows, high nasal bridge, tightly pursed lips, and sharp jawline.

The morning mist cast a piercing arc on his handsome face, creating a powerful visual impact.

Patricia couldn't help but stare. Involuntarily, she reached out her hand to touch him.

Just as she was about to touch him, Martin, who was sleeping, suddenly opened his eyes and his sharp gaze caught her, his face full of vigilance.

"What are you doing?" he asked sharply.

Embarrassment and guilt flashed in Patricia's eyes as she quickly withdrew her hand.

Martin asked persistently, "What were you doing just now?"

Patricia intentionally changed the subject, trying to divert his attention.

"Randy has been recovering well recently, and his condition has stabilized. I will take him to the hospital today for a preoperative examination. If everything is fine, his first heart surgery will be in two days."

Sure enough, Martin's attention was successfully diverted.

"Can he have surgery so soon? Is it dangerous?" Martin questioned anxiously.

Suppressing her guilt, Patricia stood up, feigning ease.

"You can rest assured; I won't do anything if his body doesn't allow it. He is my son, and I worry about him more than anyone else."

Hearing this, Martin looked at Randy, who was still sleeping, thinking about how his body was once filled with tubes and the memory made his heart ache.

Patricia also looked at Randy.

"Don't worry, I won't let anything happen to Randy. For these past few years, I've dedicated myself to studying medicine just so that one day he can become a normal person."

As soon as she finished speaking, the door was forcefully pushed open from the outside.

"Martin, I heard from the maid that you were in Randy's room, and last night..." The voice abruptly stopped.

Debbie stood at the doorway, wide-eyed and incredulous, looking at the three people who had clearly laid on the same bed, with a chilling sensation in her chest.

Her voice was too loud, and it woke up Randy, who was still asleep. Randy sat up, rubbing his sleepy eyes, and sweetly smiled at Patricia and Martin.

"Daddy, Mommy, good morning! I slept well last night, did you sleep well?" he asked.

His words undoubtedly confirmed Debbie's suspicion. Her pretty face turned pale, and after a moment of silence, she spoke again. With tears flowing down her cheeks like a newly opened spring.

"You... all of you. Martin, how could you do this to me? I admit, I was in the wrong, but you shouldn't have betrayed our love! I loved you so much, and yet you treated me like this..."
