Chapter 952 Letting Go of Past Grudges

There were a ton of people here, all waiting for the sunrise.

Most of 'em were couples, with just a few families scattered around.

Charles was stoked, thinking he'd spot Hannah here.

But after scouring the place, he couldn't find a single trace of her. Worn out from the night, he felt like all his energy had been zapped, and his legs hurt so bad he couldn't stand anymore. He just crumpled to the ground.

Right before he hit the dirt, a pair of hands grabbed him by the waist from behind.

Charles mumbled, "Thanks."

He turned around, and when he saw it was Hannah who'd caught him, his eyes filled with tears.

He'd finally found her.

He was so pumped he couldn't even talk.

Once he got his balance, Hannah was about to let go and bolt.

"Hannah," Charles called out.

He tried to chase after her, but his legs were killing him, and he couldn't muster any strength. His left foot tripped over his right, and he almost face-planted again.

Luckily, Hannah noticed and caught him just in time.

Charles's voice shook with excitement. "Hannah."

Hannah looked at him, totally shocked at how messed up he looked after just one day.

His hair was a windblown mess, his clothes were wrinkled and muddy, and there was a huge stain on the back of his suit pants, like he'd sat in something gross.

His face was smeared with mud and dust.

He was a far cry from the confident, high-ranking Charles she knew, like he was a whole different person.

"What happened to you?" She glanced around, puzzled. "The cable car isn't even open yet. How'd you get up here?"

Before she could finish asking, Charles pulled her into a tight hug.

"Finally, I found you! Do you know how long I've been looking for you? Stella and I searched almost the entire D University. I was so scared I'd never see you again."

Hannah stood there, stiff as a board, letting him hold her.

She started to piece things together and asked, almost not believing it, "Did you climb up here by yourself?"

Charles nodded like crazy. "I climbed the whole night! My legs were killing me; otherwise, I'd have been here sooner. Luckily, I remembered we promised to watch the sunrise together. And you actually showed up."

Luckily, Hannah was here.

Not only had he found her, but he also realized she still had feelings for him.

If she didn't, why would she be here?

Hannah's heart was a whirlwind of emotions, and all her grievances, anger, and reluctance seemed to vanish.

Thinking about how Charles had climbed the mountain alone at night to find her, getting himself all messed up, she was genuinely touched.

At that moment, she believed he loved her.

No matter why he loved her, she was satisfied.

Hannah slowly reached out and placed her hand on his waist.

Even though it was just a light touch, Charles felt it. His tall frame trembled slightly. Hannah's response made him ecstatic.

At least it showed she was starting to forgive him.

Charles blurted out, "Hannah, please, just forgive me, alright? I swear I'll keep my distance from Violet! If you're still upset, I'll explain everything to her. From the moment I first saw you, I knew you were different. You and Violet are two separate people. I never saw you as her stand-in. I fell for you, Hannah, during our time together! Believe me! Once I chose you, there was no way I could stay with Violet! Love is between two people. If I waver between you and her, it's not fair to either of you. That day on the rooftop, I was confused and said we were just friends to calm her down! When we get back, I'll set things straight with her and tell her you're my girlfriend. My thing with her is over. You're the one I want to spend my life with. Hannah, trust me. I'll handle things with Violet and give you the explanation you deserve."

He let out everything he'd been bottling up.

If he didn't get it out now, he felt like he'd go nuts.

Listening to his heartfelt confession, Hannah sighed deeply.

She could feel Charles' body shaking; his legs were about to give out.

His legs had just recovered, and after a whole night of climbing, she didn't know if they'd get worse.

Hannah said, "My spot's over there. Let's sit and talk."

She let go of him, put his arm around her shoulder, and helped him to her spot to sit down.

After standing for hours, as soon as he sat, a sharp pain shot through his legs, making his scalp tingle and cold sweat break out.

He felt like his legs weren't even his own anymore.

The pain was so bad he wanted to chop them off.

Seeing his pain, Hannah felt a pang of distress. She immediately lifted his legs and placed them on her lap, skillfully massaging them with her slender fingers.

This was something she had specifically learned from the doctor during Charles' rehab.

The doctor had said that regular massages at home would help with recovery.

To help Charles recover faster, she massaged him every day, and even the doctor said her skills were good enough to be a pro.

Seeing him in such a state for her, Hannah's nose tingled with sadness. "You know your legs haven't fully recovered. Couldn't you wait for the cable car to open before coming up?"

Just thinking about Charles climbing the mountain alone at night made her heart ache.

When his legs hurt so much that he had to rest on a rock, how scared must he have been?

She couldn't even imagine that scene.

Charles massaged his thigh while saying, "I couldn't wait another moment! Knowing you were here waiting for me, I only hated my legs for being too slow. I was so afraid that if I came up late, you'd be gone. As long as I could find you, I didn't care if I was exhausted or if my legs were crippled."

Hearing his words, Hannah couldn't hold back her tears any longer.

Her tears kept falling.

Seeing her cry, Charles cupped her face with both hands, anxiously wiping her tears. "I'm sorry. I made you cry again! Did I say something wrong again? Please don't cry. I apologize! Seeing you cry really breaks my heart."

The more he wiped, the more Hannah's tears fell.

Finally, she couldn't hold back any longer and threw herself into his arms, hugging his waist tightly.

Hannah said, "I believe you. You don't need to apologize anymore. It's me who didn't understand. It's my fixed mindset. I've figured it all out."

Charles didn't know what she meant by "figured it out," but he just held Hannah tightly in his arms, closing his eyes in satisfaction.

It had only been a few days since Hannah last hugged him, but it felt like a century to him.

The long-lost feeling of happiness made him involuntarily curl his lips into a smile.
