Chapter 841: Testing
Austin showing up totally killed Stella's vibe, and she started planning stuff half-heartedly.
All her plans went down the drain 'cause of Austin.
Just as she was glaring at Austin, plotting how to make him vanish without a trace, Hannah suddenly tapped her on the shoulder.
Hannah nudged her, "Hey, snap out of it! What’s on your mind?"
Stella snapped back to reality, seeing Austin about to grab Hannah's hand to hop on the same cable car, she yanked Hannah back to her side.
Hannah said, "You sit with Charles, and I'll sit with Hannah."
If they got all cozy in the same cable car, Charles would totally flip out with jealousy.
Then getting him to chase after Hannah would be a nightmare.
Austin was about to drag Hannah over when Hannah looped her arm around Stella's and said, "I'll sit with Stella! You sit with Mr. Watson."
Austin pulled back his hand.
Stella stuck her tongue out at Austin and dragged Hannah into the empty cable car that just rolled up, and the staff shut the door right behind them.
Next, Austin and Charles got on another cable car.
They sat on opposite sides, not saying a word.
Charles turned his head to check out the view outside the cable car.
Austin, though, kept staring at him.
Feeling Austin's gaze, Charles calmly turned to him and asked coolly, "You got something to say, or you just gonna keep staring?"
Austin thought for a sec before slowly saying, "Charles, have you noticed Hannah looks a lot like Violet?"
Charles didn’t answer directly, just said, "The world’s big. Lots of people look alike; it’s no big deal."
He’d seen someone who looked even more like Violet than Hannah.
Seen it so many times, he didn’t even care anymore.
Austin didn’t expect him to be so chill.
He thought Charles would lose it when he saw Hannah, and totally freak out when he found out they were engaged.
But Charles was way calmer than he imagined, not as worked up as he thought he’d be.
For a moment, Austin didn’t know what to say.
The words he had ready got stuck in his throat.
Seeing him quiet, Charles took the lead and asked, "Does Carter know about your engagement?"
Probably not! Otherwise, when he called Carter last time, he wouldn’t have said what he did.
Austin quietly stared at Charles's calm face.
He didn’t know why, but the calmer Charles was, the angrier Austin felt.
He finally won for once, but he didn’t feel any sense of achievement or superiority.
Austin snapped, "I haven’t told Carter! I’ll tell him later."
Charles said, "Because she looks like Violet?"
Austin raised an eyebrow at him.
Charles smirked and said, "You’re scared they’ll find out you had a thing for Violet since you were young, scared they’ll be pissed, so you don’t dare to say anything?"
Hearing his thoughts spoken out loud, Austin’s face turned ugly.
To him, Charles was deliberately insulting and mocking him.
But he couldn’t argue back.
Knowing he was pissed, Charles felt a weird sense of satisfaction deep inside. Then he was startled by this sudden feeling.
When did he become so wicked?
Just 'cause Austin was Hannah's fiancé, did he feel secretly happy after mocking him?
No way! He couldn't be like this. He couldn't be so low.
Charles added, "Actually, you don't need to worry! Carter and Lassie are super chill, they'll definitely like Hannah when they meet her!"
After all, even he liked her. Probably, no one wouldn't like her!
The more generous Charles acted, the more it bugged Austin.
Austin questioned, "She looks like Violet, and you don't have any thoughts?"
Charles raised an eyebrow and said, "What thoughts should I have? Make Hannah a stand-in for Violet?"
Austin said righteously, "Isn't that the case?"
Even though he knew Hannah and Violet were the same person.
But deep down, he still treated Hannah as Violet's stand-in.
Charles shook his head, "No, Hannah is Hannah. Violet is Violet. They’re two different people! Even if they look alike, they shouldn't be substitutes. It's unfair to Hannah and to Violet."
He could clearly separate the two. And he knew they were two different people. Hannah was not Violet.
Austin felt a bit ashamed by his words.
In the face of Charles's integrity, he seemed like the despicable, unscrupulous one.
Seeing him quiet, Charles advised, "Treat Hannah well, she’s a good girl! She’s not anyone's substitute, nor anyone's accessory. She’s herself. Her name is Hannah!"
As he finished speaking, the cable car reached its destination.
The staff opened the cable car door.
Charles jumped out first, followed closely by Austin.
Stella held Hannah's hand tightly, not letting her go to Austin, "We'll walk in front, you guys walk behind! I specifically got off midway, let's climb to the top. We'll watch the sunset tonight and the sunrise tomorrow morning. The most famous thing here is the sunrise and sunset."
Charles and Austin had no objections.
The four of them, Stella and Hannah in front, Charles and Austin behind.
Charles and Austin followed to protect Stella and Hannah in front.
All of Stella's bad mood vanished when she saw the beautiful scenery.
She pulled Hannah along, playing all the way to the top.
The temperature at the top was low, only in the fifties, and all four of them were in short sleeves. The higher they climbed, the colder it got.
Hannah hugged her arms, rubbing them constantly for warmth, her teeth chattering from the cold.
Hannah said, "Stella, it's so cold. Let's go down! With such low temperatures, how can we stay overnight? We'll freeze into popsicles."
Stella was also cold. Her body was trembling uncontrollably.
But since they had come all this way, she didn't want to give up, so she said, "There should be clothes for sale up there; let's go up and buy some to wear."
Hannah was skeptical, "Really?"
If there weren't any, they would definitely catch a cold.
Stella patted her chest and said, "There definitely are! This place is so famous now, I don't believe everyone brings clothes! Even if there aren't any for sale, there must be some for rent."
Hannah believed her, rubbing her arms for warmth as they climbed to the top.
But when they saw the situation at the top, they were stunned.
