Chapter 317 The Wedding
Martin was the first to notice Patricia.
Ignoring her ashen face, he said with a laugh, "I was worried the kids wouldn't take to Eva, but they're getting along like a house on fire. Once Eva and I have our own little ones, they're sure to dote on their new siblings."
Patricia's heart clenched painfully, her body swaying weakly.
Prompted by his words, the kids finally noticed Patricia sitting on the sofa and rushed over excitedly, their stories tumbling out.
"Mommy, listen, Eva's so beautiful and adorable, and she likes all the same foods I do!"."
Randy nodded vigorously, holding up his wrist to show off his new bracelet. "Yeah, and look!, Auntie Eva made this for me. Isn't it pretty?"
Even Charles, the most mature and composed of the triotriplets, didn't hold back his fondness for Eva.
"Eva is indeed great, super attentive. She even remembered Daddy's allergy to cilantro and picked out every bit of it from his dish. I'm really happy Daddy found someone who takes such good care of him."
Martin ruffled each of their heads affectionately.
"Alright, Eva knows you adore her; she'll be thrilled. It's getting late, kids,; you should hit the hay. I'll swing by tomorrow morning to take Randy back to the hospital."
Randy's smile squished his eyes into slits.Randy smiled. "Okay, bye, Daddy, see you tomorrow!"."
Martin nodded and pulled an invitation from his pocket, handing it to Patricia. "Patricia, this is an invitation to our wedding. We'd be honored if you would join us."
The crimson invite seemed to blaze with a life of its own in her hands.
Patricia's mind went blank as she mechanically reached out to accept the envelope.
Martin's gaze intensified as he emphasized,. "You have to come. If you wdon't, I'll be really disappointed. After all, you played matchmakerwing woman for us; we owe you big time."
Patricia forced a smile that looked more pained than joyful. "I'll be there!"
." Her voice, strained from extended crying, had taken on a raspy tone.
Martin grinned. "You should get some rest, too, I better head out."
Patricia clutched her pants tightly, fighting back the heartache, and gave a stiff nod.
As Martin left, Charles noticed Patricia's pallor. Concerned, he asked, "Mom, what's up? You feeling okay?"
Patricia didn't want to worry him and brushed it off. "Just a little rundown from being so busy. I'll feel better after some sleep. You get your brother and sister ready for bed, okay?"
With that, her legs wobbled as she staggered to her bedroom. Charles watched her go, his expression growing somber with worry.
Charles watched her go, his expression growing somber with worry.
Time slipped away quietly.
Before they knew, the wedding day had arrived.
This wedding was even more lavish than the last.
Before dawn broke, every entertainment headline and news report was updating the wedding preparations, with many platforms broadcasting live. The buzz was unprecedented, eclipsing even the most popular celebrities' nuptials.
Patricia had spent the night awake, staring blankly at the wedding invitation on her vanity. Her finger rubbed the edge of the invitation repeatedly, a silent debate raging in her heart— To go or not to go? The thought of watching Martin marry someone else was unbearable. She was sure it would break her heart right there.
Her finger rubbed the edge of the invitation repeatedly, a silent debate raging in her heart—
To go or not to go?
The thought of watching Martin marry someone else was unbearable.
She was sure it would break her heart right there.
However, Martin had extended a heartfelt invitation, and she'd agreed to go. If she didn't show up, what would he think of her?
As she wavered, the door swung open from the outside.
Her three little bundles of joy charged in, buzzing around her like a trio of brightly colored butterflies. "Mommy, are you all better? Let's get going!. I'm going to be a ring bearer!"."
Fannie, clutching her phone with palpable excitement, exclaimed,. "Mommy, look, they're livestreaming the wedding!. It's at the venue right now—wow.... Wow, there are so many balloons... and wisteria! DadWisteria. Daddy actually managed to get wWisteria... your favorite, Mom!my."
Patricia felt a wave of emotion welling up, and the pain atin her heart seemed almost unbearable.
Randy chimed in quickly,. "I heard Daddy say that Eva loves wWisteria just like you, Mommy. The whole wedding is decorated to her taste."
Charles, while straightening his silvery-white little suit, urged,. "Mommy, hurry up and get dressed. We're Daddy's direct family; we've got to be there early. We might even be able to lend a hand."
But Patricia was resistant; she didn't want to go.
Unobservant of her reluctance, the three kids pulled her up from the chair.
Charles, with an eye for fashion, opened the wardrobe to pick out clothes for her.
Fannie and Randy ushered her into the restroom to freshen up.
It was springtime, not yet warm, and after rummaging through the closet, Charles chose a crimson mid-length coat paired with a white low-neck undershirt for her.
After changing into the undershirt, Fannie and Randy seated Patricia at the vanity.
Charles handed Patricia some makeup. "Mommy, as Daddy's ex, you can't afford to look shabby today. Look at your face—you need to perk up a bit. Some makeup will help cover the wear."
Patricia was bewildered. Struggling to contain herself, she finally burst out. "Why are you guys so excited about Daddy's wedding?"
Struggling to contain herself, she finally burst out, "Why are you guys so excited about Dad's wedding?"
Couldn't they see she was suffering?
Rubbing They were rubbing salt into her wounds.
Anyone would think she was the one marrying Martin!
. They hadn't been this enthusiastic when she and Martin had tiedbeen about to tie the knot.
Charles, carefully considering his words, didn't reply at once. Fannie, ever so blithe, beat him to it,. "We're about to get a new mom,my; of course, we're thrilled!"."
And Randy, ever the echo, nodded his head vigorously in agreement.
"Yeah, we all adore Eva. It's great that Daddy found his happiness," they said in mutual agreement, their voices a warm blend of affection and cheer.
The very notion twisted Patricia's features into a near snarl.
She felt as though both her ex-husband and son kids had been taken from her.
Heeding the relentless urging of her three little ones, Patricia freshened up with a light touch of makeup and donned the red trench coat Charles had handpicked for her to lift her spirits before heading to the hotel.
The Langley clan Langleys was already there, gathered well ahead of time.
Upon learning that Martin was set to marry the granddaughter-in-law they had thoroughly approved of, Gregory and Jessica Langley cut their world tour short, racing back home overnight.
As Martin's best friends, Carter and Ryan, had also arrived early to help out.
Next to Carter stood a woman with a slender figure, her delicate features poised with innate elegance and grace.
When shePatricia entered, Ryan approached her with a grin that could only be described as mischievously sardonic and delivered a verbal jab without any semblance of mercy: .
"Patricia, I can't believe you showed up!. You are, without a doubt, the most magnanimouskindest ex I've ever known. Not only did you hook your ex-husband up with his new girl, but you're also here at his wedding. I heard you even picked out the bride's dress." With a thumbs-up, he added facetiously, "You're something else."
With a thumbs-up, he added facetiously, "You're something else…"
With her heart already in agony, Patricia felt as though her wounds had been salted. Her pale face, drained of all color, would have been ghostly had it not been for the makeup masking her pallor.
