Chapter 33 Martin mistook the child.
Ryan took off his sunglasses and looked at the words "Amusement Park," feeling shocked.
"Are you sure we're at the right place? The three of us big men came to play at an amusement park. We're elite Wall Street professionals who count millions of dollars, do you think it's appropriate for us to play here?" Ryan asked.
Carter pinched his nose completely speechless at this point and said, "Yeah, I think you should bring your child here to play, not us."
Martin's thin lips curled up slightly as he said, "Well, I brought you here to find him!"
Ryan asked, "Is your son here?"
Martin nodded and took the lead to walk inside.
Ryan looked down at his suit and followed behind him, muttering,
"Martin, since we're coming here to play, why didn't you tell us earlier? We could have at least changed into casual clothes. Have you ever seen someone wearing a suit to an amusement park? Others will think we're pretentious."
Martin walked on, as if he hadn't heard, while Carter shook his head helplessly and followed along.
Ryan shouted again, "This place is so big, how are we going to find Randy? Why don't you give him a call?"
But Martin continued to ignore him. Once inside the amusement park, he began searching for Patricia's figure.
On the other side of the amusement park in the haunted house. Fannie rushed ahead at the front.
Randy walked in the middle, it being his first time in this place. It was pitch black all around and he had no idea what awaited him. His palms were all sweaty with fear and his body trembled slightly now and then.
Patricia stayed close behind them, never leaving their side and never taking her eyes off them.
In the narrow hallway, eerie and terrifying music played, and dim green lights flashed from time to time.
Suddenly, a dark figure swept past right in front of them. Randy was so frightened that his whole body trembled.
Before he could even be scared, a person with disheveled hair and a long face wearing white clothes slowly floated down from above, their features indistinct.
"Hehe... Hehe... Welcome to hell... I am the ghost king..." A shrill and icy voice came from the figure.
"Ah..." Randy's heart felt like it was about to jump out of his chest. He let out a scream and instinctively hid in Patricia's arms.
Patricia immediately held him and comforted, "Don't be afraid, it's all fake. If you're scared, we can go back and not play anymore."
Fannie noticed that he was really frightened and said hurriedly, "Randy, are you scared? If you're scared, we won't play anymore."
Randy peeked out from Patricia's embrace, stole a glance at the ghostly figure hanging in mid-air and although he was still very scared, he didn't want to spoil Fannie's fun.
He shook his head and said, "I'm not scared anymore; we can keep playing."
Patricia worriedly said, "Randy, you mustn't force yourself. If you're really scared, we'll go out. This is not just about having fun."
Fannie also echoed, "I suddenly don't want to play anymore. Let's go outside!"
Randy knew they were doing it for him. He hated his own cowardice and shook his head, saying, "No, we just came in, we haven't started playing yet!"
Fannie pretended not to care, "I've played many times, all haunted houses are the same, it's boring! Let's go play something else!"
Randy started to say, "But..."
Fannie interrupted, "No 'buts,' let's go outside! I want to go on the thrilling rapids!" Without waiting for his refusal, she turned around and pulled him back the way they came.
Outside, the sun was shining brightly. Randy had never longed for sunlight like this before. Standing at the entrance of the haunted house, he suddenly felt a sense of rebirth.
The haunted house was really too terrifying.
He really didn't understand why a girl like Fannie would enjoy playing such scary things.
Knowing that Randy had never been to an amusement park before, Fannie didn't dare to take him on any thrilling rides; she tried to stick to gentler attractions like carousels and small trains.
Randy knew that Fannie was doing all of this for him, and he felt grateful. His comfort and liking for her increased.
He was encountering these things for the first time and found each one fascinating and enjoyable. Gradually, he completely let go, losing his initial restraint and nervousness.
Compared to them, Charles played more excitingly. He had played almost all the thrilling activities for children.
After drinking too much soda halfway through, he went to the restroom. While washing his face at the sink, he looked up and saw his reflection in the mirror, instantly frightened, his little face turned pale.
"...Father, you bastard..." he thought, How could his father, that bastard, be here?
Would he not recognize his identity and try to take him away from Mommy?
Martin pursed his thin lips into a straight line, his handsome eyebrows furrowing tightly. "Why is it only you? Where is your mommy?" He asked.
Did his father mistake him for Randy? Thinking of this possibility, Charles breathed a sigh of relief.
"Why are you here?" Charles asked as calmly as he could.
Charles stared at his father wondering why, he came to the amusement park wearing an Italian bespoke suit.
Was he here to play or to acquire something?
At this moment, Ryan and Carter emerged from somewhere. Ryan rested his hand on Charles' shoulder, panting and saying,
"Randy, do you know that we have been searching half the amusement park to find you? If I hadn't coincidentally needed to go to the restroom, we'd probably still be looking for you!"
Charles recognized them but didn’t respond.
They were his father's best brothers, one named Ryan and the other should be Carter.
Ryan was the youngest, a playboy who indulged in earthly pleasures. Carter was reserved and steady, with a gentle and polite demeanor.
Charles remembered reading about them when he looked into his father.
Charles glanced at the hand on his shoulder and pouted, "What are you looking for me for? I'm not a three-year-old child." The arrogance in Charles’s tone was unmistakable.
Ryan chuckled heartily at his teasing remark, "That's right, you're not a three-year-old, you're a four-year-old child."
Charles: "......??”
Martin looked around and furrowed his brows even tighter, "Where is your mommy? Why isn't she with you?"
Charles was afraid Patricia would come with Randy and Fannie, so he anxiously craned his neck to look around. When he didn't see Patricia, he breathed a sigh of relief and slyly glanced around,
"Mommy had something come up suddenly, so she let Jade accompany me."
As he said that, he called out loudly, "Jade..." Jade immediately ran in from outside.
When Jade saw Martin, she was frightened, "Martin, why are you here?"
"Patricia is really something. She left the child with you and disappeared without a trace!" Martin's tone wasn't very friendly, and he exuded a hint of gloom, as if he was hiding something inside him, ready to burst out.
"......??" Jade didn't understand the situation, but she instantly understood when she saw Charles repeatedly signaling to her. She stammered in explanation,
"Patricia received a phone call suddenly and had to go out? So, so I'm temporarily taking care of the child for her."
"She went out because of something. Or is she on a date?" Martin asked full of anger.
Actually, she was using the child as an excuse, perhaps to do something that shouldn't be seen. The more he thought about it, the uglier Martin's face became.
His once imposing face now looked devilish, as if it came straight from hell, causing panic in people's hearts.
Jade was puzzled, "What date?"
Martin approached her, demanding in a stern voice, "Tell me, where did Patricia meet that man?"
Jade disliked his aggressive and arrogant attitude and became so angry that her face turned red. She spoke without restraint,
"Who are you to interrogate me like this? Patricia's ex-husband? Why do you care about who she goes out to dinner with? What's it to you? Even though you divorced her, does that mean she's not allowed to date someone else?!"
Her words undoubtedly confirmed Martin's suspicion. His eyes narrowed and the air around them gradually grew thin.
