Chapter 20 The Deserved Guilt Of A Mistress
The sudden revelation triggered a rapid shift in the unfolding events. Prior to the truth being clarified, Patricia found herself bombarded with a relentless wave of online attacks. The torrent of curses appeared unending. Even the internet trolls, who had previously supported Debbie's quest for justice, now felt hoodwinked.
Patricia had previously endured severe online abuse, and now Debbie was subjected to the same cruel fate. The vitriol in the comments seemed to surpass anything seen before.
"Damn, have we been played?"
"It's not just being played; it's a calculated diversion."
"I can't believe it. Debbie appeared so innocent, yet she orchestrated this elaborate scheme with such cunning."
"Debbie and her mother are shameless home-wreckers, stealing another woman's husband and child. Aren't there any decent men left in the world? Couldn't they find anyone other than Patricia and her mom's husband? Like mother, like daughter."
"No wonder Randy had such affection for Dr. Watson. Turns out she's his biological mother. Debbie knew all along but let everyone blame Dr. Watson, truly unforgivable."
"Men are truly despicable, jumping from one woman to another. I always thought Mr. Langley was a good man. Never expected him to be such scum."
"Guess what? Did she buy last night's trending topic as well? It trended all night long. I've never seen a trending topic stay up all night."
"No need to guess. It's definitely her. A malicious person like her is capable of anything."
Reading these comments, Debbie felt as though she had been plunged into icy water, chilled to her very core. Her mind felt like it was in a state of chaos, filled with various emotions such as nervousness, panic, and confusion.
Who? Who could orchestrate all of this? Who had the power to do so much?
Gladys covered her swollen face and said helplessly, "Debbie, do you believe me now? It really wasn't me."
Debbie teetered on the brink of a breakdown, feeling as if the world around her was spinning, and the people surrounding her seemed to be incessantly taunting and insulting her.
"Mistress."
"You're truly malevolent."
"Shameless."
Debbie's taut nerves finally snapped with a resounding crack. She lost control and charged towards Patricia, shouting, "It was you, it must be! Why are you doing this? Why me? I'm your sister!"
Patricia's shoulder throbbed from the pinch, and she forcefully pushed Debbie away. "Sister? Why didn't you mention that when you framed me? When you pretended to be innocent and encouraged everyone to attack and berate me, why didn't you reveal that you're my sister?
"Debbie, all of this is your karma; you deserve it. Even if I did it, what can you do to me? I gave you a chance, but you didn't value it."
"You..." Debbie's face contorted with anger, and she raised her hand to strike Patricia, but Patricia swiftly seized her hand and ruthlessly tossed her to the ground.
Debbie landed with a thud, taken by surprise. There was a distinct 'crack' sound, and searing pain shot through her wrist. She gasped sharply, her young face contorted in agony.
Patricia peered down at her disheveled state emotionlessly. "Debbie, I'm no longer the old Patricia who allowed you to bully me. If you dare to harass me again, I'll give you a taste of your own medicine, but much worse."
The other doctors in the office observed in astonishment. Patricia prepared to depart but glanced up to find Martin standing at the door, though she couldn't determine when he had arrived.
Martin fixed his unwavering gaze on her, as if attempting to peer into the depths of her soul. Patricia's breath momentarily slowed.
She promptly composed her emotions, forced herself to remain composed, and walked past Martin.
Debbie also spotted Martin standing at the door. Fearful that he would despise her, she hastily rose from the ground and reached for his sleeve.
"Martin, listen to me, it's not what you think!"
Martin coldly brushed her hand away, emitting an icy chill from head to toe. His eyes reflected a blend of disgust, disappointment, and anger.
"Debbie, I am very disappointed in you."
Debbie felt as though her blood had turned to ice in an instant, tears streaming incessantly down her face. "Martin..."
Seeing her tears, Martin couldn't help but feel that she was becoming even more hypocritical. "You told me that you didn't post the video, and I believed you!"
He pursed his lips and smirked self-mockingly. "You're no longer worth my trust."
With that, he turned away and departed, leaving Debbie behind with his cold and distant back. His words struck her like a whip, causing her legs to give way, and she collapsed to the ground, crying in agony without caring about her appearance.
Her cries drew the attention of those around her, but this time, to her dismay, no one offered sympathy.
Indifference greeted her, along with a sense of satisfaction at her suffering, from those in her vicinity.
"She deserves it. She has such a wicked mind, and this is her retribution."
"Yes, she made me misunderstand Dr. Watson. I even transferred to her service. I wonder if it's too late to change back now?"
"Someone with such a warped mind really shouldn't be in the healthcare profession. Who knows what she might do if something doesn't go her way? She might even harm someone."
"I hope Mr. Langley sees through her true nature and comprehends her real character, breaks up with her, and reunites with Dr. Watson."
Debbie was overwhelmed by an unprecedented sense of frustration as she clenched her fists. Unable to bear it any longer, Gladys lowered her head, assisted Debbie to her feet, and left amidst the gaze of everyone present.
