Chapter 168 Martin's Secret DNA Test

Holding Charlotte's toothbrush, Martin headed straight to the DNA testing center, determined to her the results as soon as possible. "Get me the results within three hours."

The lab technician nodded and collected saliva samples from Martin's mouth and then proceeded into the testing room with the toothbrush.

While waiting for the results, Martin made a call to Alan.

"Check Charlotte's recent movements, find out where she's been, who she's met, where she came from and how long she's been back in Ivara City."

Alan paused, surprised. "Charlotte? Your own sister Charlotte?"

"Yes, she's currently at Ellenstein Villa District and returned an hour ago."

Once Alan confirmed the other party's identity, handling the matter became much easier. With clear-cut determination, he said, “Alright! I’ve got it! I’ll go check it out now!”

Martin waited at the door of the forensics department to ensure the authenticity of the results.

The results came out in less than three hours.

“The DNA test shows a 99% match with Miss Langley, indicating that biologically, you are siblings.”

However, the expected outcome did nothing to dispel the cloud of doubt in Martin's heart.

...

After returning home, Patricia took a bath and rested for a while. When she woke up, she felt much better.

She quickly tidied up and left to pick up Charles and Fannie from school.

Just as she reached the downstairs entrance, she saw Hunter leaning against the wall.

His head was bowed, his right index and middle fingers pinching a half-smoked cigarette. It was unclear how long he had been standing there, as the ashtray was filled with cigarette butts.

She remembered that he didn't smoke. Something must have pushed him to break his own rule. Could it be...

She recalled that last night, while she was being forced by Martin to go to sleep, she was on the phone with Hunter.

How much had he heard? Or had he heard everything?

The possibility that he might have heard it all made Patricia’s cheeks burn with embarrassment. She walked over with her head down and asked in a quiet voice, “How long have you been here? Why didn’t you call me?”

Hearing her voice, Hunter paused in his smoking, slowly raised his head, and managed a strained smile on his haggard face: “You came down?”

His voice was as gentle and pleasant as it had always been.

Seeing that smile, which seemed more pitiful than crying, increased Patricia’s sense of guilt.

The Hunter she remembered was optimistic, always full of life no matter what happened.

But now he had changed. Was it because of her?

Patricia didn’t dare to assume too much, but she asked with concern, “You look pale, are you sick?”

Hunter's smile couldn’t be sustained any longer. He extinguished his cigarette, looked down at his boots, and asked in a hoarse voice, “When did you... when did you come back last night?”

His conspicuous behavior made it all too clear to Patricia, and her heart sank.

“You... you heard?”

Hunter’s body tensed, and a wave of intense sadness spread from him, engulfing Patricia.

She felt a twinge at the tip of her nose.

Neither spoke.

The air grew heavy.

The cold wind howled.

After a long silence, Hunter finally broke the deafening silence: “I know it wasn’t your choice, you were forced! I don’t blame you. If there’s blame to cast, it’s on me for not going with you last night.”

The more he absolved her, the guiltier Patricia felt.

“Hunter, I know you’ve always been good to me! But I really don’t deserve you. I think you can find a better woman! Let’s just be friends, like we were before.” Patricia said.

The moment she finished speaking, Hunter hugged her, overwhelmed with emotion.

With over exertion, there was a faint tremble in his arms.

"Whatever happens, my feelings for you will never change! I don’t mind that you've been married and had children, how could I possibly care about what happened last night?"

"Hunter!"

His kindness left Patricia feeling breathless.

She wanted to refuse, yet she found herself utterly incapable, as if caught in a dead end, not even she knew what to do.

Hunter continued, "Patricia, let's get engaged! I promise to take good care of you and will not let anyone harm you. If you want, after we get married you can come with me to the U.S. If not, we can settle down in Ivara City. No matter where you are, I will respect your decisions."

His promises were so enticing that Patricia found herself unable to refuse.

Hunter didn't give her the chance to retreat. Releasing her, he gazed into her eyes with deep affection and said sincerely, "Aren’t you going to pick up the kids from school? Let's go together! It's a good opportunity for me to officially meet them. Apart from Randy, I haven't met the other two yet!"

Patricia was captivated by his gaze, her mind went blank, and before she knew it, she was standing with Hunter at the gates of the kindergarten.

Holding Patricia's hand tightly, Hunter was as excited as a child, waving happily at Charles and Fannie as they came out of the kindergarten.

The little ones seemed puzzled, staring at him while rooted to the spot.

Seeing his joy, Patricia didn’t have the heart to refuse him there and then, so she waved to the kids too.

Then they snapped out of it and came running over, hand in hand.

Hunter introduced himself with joy: "I'm Hunter, your mom's boyfriend! I've come specifically to treat you to a meal today, and I hope to get to know you better in the future!"

The kids looked at Hunter with curious eyes, as if evaluating an alien.

Charles, curious, said, "Uncle, you're quite handsome. How come you fancy my mom? She's been divorced and has three kids, she's not at your level."

Patricia looked at him in shock.

Hunter chuckled and put an arm around Patricia's shoulders, proudly declaring, "I think your mom is great! Beautiful and kindhearted. I'm the one reaching up to her!"

His answer satisfied the two little ones.

Charles took out a children's phone and opened his homemade search app and asked, "Hunter?"

Hunter responded, "Hunter Miller!"

Charles typed the name exactly as Hunter had said, into the search bar.

Quickly, all the information about Hunter Miller appeared on the screen.

Hunter Miller, at the age of twenty-eight, is the Executive Chairman and CEO of the Miller Group Technology in the country of M. His father is the incumbent President of the Miller Group Technology, and his mother is a princess from the royal family of M.

For several years in a row, he's graced the top ten of the Forbes wealth lists.

Praised as the most promising young entrepreneur.

What's more remarkable is that this man, with such enviable qualifications, has remained scandal-free to date, as unblemished as a sheet of white paper.

Outstanding, unassuming, restrained.

He embodies all these virtues, truly a one-of-a-kind great man.

Upon reviewing Hunter's resume, Charles's jaw nearly dropped in awe.

To describe Hunter's personal qualifications as merely good would be an understatement; they are staggeringly impressive.

Handsome and wealthy.

One is the richest man in M country, the other the richest in Z country, evenly matched with his own father.

Not only is his father formidable, but even his romantic rival is formidable.

Does Mommy know how impressive Hunter is?

Without making any fuss, Hunter glanced at him and asked with a smile, “What would you like to eat today? Just say the word, and your uncle will take care of it.”

Charles grinned and said, “Let's find a private room to dine in first. I have many questions that I need to get clarity on, or else I won’t feel comfortable handing Mommy over to you.”

Hunter agreed readily.

Charles booked Room 001 at Basque Taste on his phone.

Hunter drove them there, and as they passed by Room 005, they were spotted by Carter, who was inside conducting business. He immediately took out his phone and sent a message to Martin.

"Martin, Hunter is having dinner in Room 001 with Patricia and her son Charles, and there’s a little girl following them. You must come quickly, or you may lose your wife and child.”
