Chapter 677 Reenactment For Joe

Kaleb had been waiting for a long time.

After a week of searching by the search team, there were still no clues. They had now moved to a different location, with everyone heading downstream to continue the search.

In reality, everyone knew deep down.

It had been a week, and with no sign of recovery, the chances of survival were zero.

Perhaps they wouldn't even find the body.

But hindered by the fact that Billy was Joe's only son, everyone had to grit their teeth and continue the search. Until Joe agreed, no one dared to slack off.

After Joe got out of the car, he immediately saw Kaleb standing about ten meters below the bridge, a spot that offered a clear view of the scene on the bridge.

As soon as he saw Kaleb, Kaleb also spotted him and waved at him.

Joe walked over, expressionless, and said, "I'm here. Remember what you said. I'll listen to what you have to say, and you’ll stop all your recent crazy behavior."

Kaleb assured him, "With decades of friendship between us, you should know that I keep my word."

Joe pursed his lips, sneered lightly, and said, "I knew the old you, but now... ever since Patricia appeared, you're no longer the same Kaleb. In your eyes, I'm no longer your best friend."

Kaleb was left speechless.

He had never changed.

It was Joe who had clearly changed.

But Joe seemed completely unaware.

Instead, he blamed everything on Kaleb.

Taking a deep breath, Kaleb chuckled self-deprecatingly and decided not to dwell on the topic of who had changed. Kaleb pointed to the scene of the incident.

"Look..."

Joe looked towards the direction Kaleb pointed.

There was a man on the bridge, walking away from them, his back turned.

Behind him was a woman.

The woman's figure looked very much like... like Patricia...

Seeing the man, Joe's breath hitched, and he instinctively wanted to go after him.

"Billy..." Joe said.

The man was Billy.

Joe recognized the back of Billy.

He couldn't be mistaken.

However, before he could rush forward, he was stopped by Kaleb.

"Wait a moment..." Kaleb remarked.

Joe, frustrated, said, "That's Billy. I have to find him... He must be worried about us and has come back to find us."

Kaleb held onto him. "Please be patient..."

Just as he spoke, the woman walking behind Billy suddenly tapped his shoulder. However, the man didn't turn around. When the woman reached out to tap his shoulder a second time, Billy, who was walking ahead, suddenly staggered and fell.

From their vantage point, they could clearly see that "Billy" had been pushed down by the woman behind him.

"Billy..." Joe, fearing a repeat of the nightmare, screamed in terror. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he pushed Kaleb away frantically, desperate to rush over.

No matter how Kaleb tried to hold him back, he couldn't.

As Joe was about to leap into the river to save "Billy," Kaleb couldn't stop him and had to shout, "That's not Billy... it's not him...."

Joe's motion to jump into the river came to a sudden halt.

Incredulously, he turned to look at Kaleb.

Pointing at the river, Kaleb said, "Look, he's fine..."

Joe followed his finger.

Indeed.

The "Billy" who had fallen into the river just resurfaced, wiping the water off his face vigorously.

Joe finally saw clearly that the man was not Billy but someone who bore a resemblance from behind.

At that moment, the woman who looked very much like Patricia turned around, revealing a face completely different from Patricia's.

Joe was completely baffled.

Joe stood by the riverbank for a while without reacting.

The "Billy" in the river climbed ashore, and Ryan appeared from somewhere, wrapping him in a thick blanket.

"Billy" held onto the blanket tightly, shivering from the cold.

Joe looked at "Billy," then at "Patricia" still standing on the bridge, and then at the suddenly appearing Ryan, something flashed through his mind. But it disappeared too quickly, vanishing before he could grasp it.

Realizing Joe hadn't come to terms with it yet, Kaleb explained, "I brought you here today just for a practical exercise, to help you see clearly!"

Joe understood by now, but he still couldn't believe it. He asked expressionlessly, "See what exactly?"

Kaleb said, "We've thoroughly questioned the driver. What you just witnessed was exactly what happened that day. Even the spot where we stood on just now was where the driver stood that day."

Joe suddenly chuckled.

The smile didn't reach his eyes. "So, you deliberately brought me here just to tell me that my son didn't die? That a person with good swimming skills can climb back up after being pushed into the water?"

Kaleb nodded. "Yes!"

Joe's smile vanished abruptly. "Then tell me, where is my son now? If he didn't die, why hasn't he come back?"

Afraid of provoking further anger, Kaleb didn't answer directly but said tactfully, "I don't know! We can search for him, check immigration records to see if he left. If he's been in Country D all along, we'll eventually find him."

Joe didn't press the issue further and simply said, "Fine! You say Billy didn't die, then find him for me! When you find him, I'll let Patricia go! How about that? Is that too much to ask?"

Kaleb's expression immediately changed. "Country D is so vast. If Billy intentionally wants to hide, how could it be so easy to find him?"

Joe's expression darkened as well. He grabbed Kale’s collar and gritting his teeth. "Don't think I don't understand what you're implying. Are you suggesting that he deliberately framed Patricia and then went into hiding to evade the consequences of his actions? Let me tell you, whatever Billy did, there will be legal consequences for him, not being unjustly killed for no reason."

Kaleb grasped the gravity of Joe's words. "In the end, you still don't believe it?"

Even though they had reenacted the case, Joe wouldn't believe them as long as Billy didn't show up.

Joe still believed Patricia had plotted murder.

He still believed Billy was dead.

Just then, Sebastian and Martin came down from the bridge and walked over.

Sebastian took out a video recorded on his phone and handed it to Joe. "Patricia didn't push Billy at all. The reason you saw Patricia pushing Billy from where you stood was due to the angle! You witnessed the entire process of "Patricia" pushing "Billy" just now! However, this is the video I took. It differs significantly from what you saw."

Joe didn't believe them at all. He didn't want to see, but his eyes uncontrollably looked at the phone screen.
