Chapter 825: Is he your boyfriend?

Hannah's jaw practically hit the floor when she saw Charles.

"What the heck are you doing here?" she blurted out.

Stella, all bubbly, waved her over. "Hannah, get your butt over here!"

She patted the chair between her and Charles. "Come on, park it right here!"

For the first time ever, Hannah felt a twinge of annoyance towards Stella.

She'd made it crystal clear that she and Charles were a no-go.

She'd even told Stella that she and Austin had a blowout because of Charles.

And yet, here was Charles, invited by Stella.

Charles must've just gotten back in town.

Hannah shot Stella a death glare and plopped down on the other side of Stella, far from Charles.

Charles raised an eyebrow, clearly taken aback.

'Is she dodging me?' he thought.

Stella threw an arm around Hannah's shoulder. Even though Hannah didn't sit where she wanted, Stella just grinned. "It's lame having a late-night snack with just two people, so I invited someone to foot the bill."

Hannah was baffled.

There were tons of people in their dorm and class. No way Stella couldn't find anyone else. Plus, late-night snacks weren't exactly breaking the bank. Hannah wasn't rolling in dough, but she wasn't a cheapskate either. What really threw her was that Charles actually showed up.

But since he was already there, she couldn't make a scene. She forced a smile and handed him the menu. "Mr. Watson, what do you wanna eat?"

Charles, not one to shy away from late-night munchies, took the menu and ordered a bunch of stuff he and Stella liked. Then he turned to Hannah. "Stella said you dig chicken wings?"

Hannah nodded. "Yeah, that's right!"

Charles asked, "Anything else?"

Feeling a bit awkward, Hannah replied, "I'll order my own stuff, thanks!"

Once they were done ordering, Charles took the menu to the owner.

Seizing the moment, Hannah grilled Stella. "Why'd you tell him I like chicken wings?"

Stella shrugged. "What's the big deal? Charles thinks you're cute and quirky!"

Hannah was about to give Stella a piece of her mind, but Charles came back.

She straightened up and shot Stella a warning look.

Stella was confused.

With the earlier drama and the current weirdness, both Hannah and Charles were lost in their own heads, neither wanting to break the silence.

Stella's eyes darted between them.

She looked at Hannah, then Charles, then back at Hannah, and then Charles again.

She could feel the awkward vibes between them.

What was up with them? Why the radio silence?

The whole vibe was super awkward. What was making it so weird?

Charles's eyes drifted to a couple having a heated argument on the street.

The guy was fuming, "What's the deal with that dude? You ditched me at home to grab a late-night snack with him. If I hadn't tailed you, would you have kept it on the down-low?"

The girl, clearly ticked off, shot back, "I told you, he's just a senior from my school. There's nothing going on."

The guy wasn't buying it. "Then why all the sneaking around? Why keep it from me?"

She sighed, "I didn't want you to freak out! And look at you now, proving my point!"

Her words only fueled his anger.

He yelled, "If you hadn't kept it from me, would I be this pissed? You say there's nothing, but he picks you up from work every day. Are you lying to me?"

His voice was loud enough to turn heads.

The girl was just as mad, "We just happen to go the same way! He has a car, and I was in a rush, so I took the ride! Can you chill?"

The guy's face was beet red, "Do regular friends sit in the front seat?"

She snapped back, "Why can't they? He's not my chauffeur; it'd be rude to sit in the back."

He scoffed, "I don't believe you. Do you even believe yourself?"

The argument raged on.

She didn't think she was in the wrong.

But he was seriously bothered.

And his words hit home for Charles.

Before he knew it, Charles blurted out, "Was the guy who picked you up earlier your boyfriend?"

Instant regret.

Even if he was her boyfriend, so what?

He didn't have feelings for Hannah.

Reflecting on his actions tonight, he felt like an idiot.

What was he doing? He'd planned to finish his work, take a shower, and crash, but here he was, out for a late-night snack because of Stella's call.

He wasn't into Hannah. But after hearing that couple's spat, he couldn't help but ask the question that had been bugging him.

Ever since Hannah got into that Bentley and took off, it had been on his mind. Even he couldn't explain it.

Hannah looked puzzled, "Who? Who are you talking about?"

Since he already opened that can of worms, taking it back would be even weirder, so Charles pressed on.

"The guy in the Bentley who picked you up earlier. Is he your boyfriend?"

"Oh, him!" Hannah finally got it and decided not to hide it, "He is..."

She didn't want to lie. She wanted to tell Charles that he was her fiancé, Austin Moore.
