Chapter 709 How Will This End?
The parent-child relationship ratio between Hunter and Joe is 99.9%, indicating a direct blood relationship. The medical assessment confirmed they were biological father and son.
The test results were identical to the previous blood test results.
Was Hunter really his illegitimate son?
Martin looked at Joe's despairing face and expression, took the test results from Joe's hand, and upon seeing the final result, could only let out a deep sigh.
Joe, still unwilling to accept it, asked shakily, "Do you think hair testing can be tampered with? Can a bone marrow transplant change this result?"
Even though Joe knew the answer, he still clung to the last shred of hope.
How great it would be if a bone marrow transplant could affect the hair test results.
Martin knew what Joe was hoping for.
Although it was cruel, he still truthfully said, "No! Patricia said that a bone marrow transplant can only affect blood test results, not hair test results!"
Joe felt his vision go dark, his legs went weak, and he almost fainted.
He said, "So, he really is my son?"
Martin nodded, saying, "From the paternity test results, it seems so!"
Joe mechanically turned his head to look at Martin, his eyes red, not knowing how to express his feelings at that moment.
"Didn't Patricia say she grew up with him? Didn't she say she was sure of his background? Why could this happen?"
Martin knew Joe couldn't accept this and was trying to find any reason to deny the test results.
Unfortunately, the facts were right in front of them.
Both test results were the same.
No matter how much Joe wanted to deny it, he couldn't change this fact.
Martin said, "I don't know! Maybe there's something we don't know about! Just like how Patricia's mother changed her name and married her father Gavin! If it weren't for that, Kaleb wouldn't have been unable to find them for over twenty years."
"Moreover, it's been over twenty years; many things must have changed."
"The truth of the matter is only known by Hunter's mother! I think even his father might not know about this."
Hearing this, Joe was completely devastated.
He tried hard to find any clue to deny this, but he failed.
What should he do now?
His illegitimate son Hunter killed his biological son Billy.
His wife Susan was now forcing him to kill Hunter.
The situation had reached a deadlock.
Joe rubbed his face hard. "What do you think we should do now? Do I really have to kill Hunter?"
Martin felt it was inappropriate to talk here, so he took him to the parking lot. On the way back, he rationally said, "Mrs. Hill said she would take a step back and not make you do it yourself."
Joe leaned back in his seat, his eyes lifelessly looking ahead, his mind in chaos.
"But sending him in prison and killing him myself, what's the difference? He killed the my biological son; once he's in prison, it will definitely be the death penalty." Joe murmured.
Although previously, when Billy made a mistake, Joe righteously wanted to send Billy in prison.
However, Joe knew very well that Billy was his son.
Without Joe's intervention, someone would naturally lighten Billy's sentence to please him.
Now the situation is completely reversed.
Hunter killed Billy!
Similarly, someone would definitely sentence Hunter to death immediately to please Joe.
Maybe even executed it right away. How would Joe save Hunter's life?
Joe couldn't possibly reveal Hunter's identity to the public.
Martin said, "This is your family matter, and I shouldn't get involved! However, I think you should have a calm conversation with Mrs. Hill about this, as well as Carol. Although she's only nineteen, she's a very upright and sensible girl. She will understand you."
Anyone would find it hard to harm his own biological son.
Especially when another son has already died.
Joe didn't say anything more, his expression becoming even more desperate.
After returning to Silver Birch Sanctuary, Martin and Joe parted ways.
Martin went to his room to find Patricia, while Joe went to Susan's door, pacing back and forth, unable to muster the courage to knock.
Originally, Joe thought that another test would clear his name.
However, the result was the opposite; it only confirmed that Hunter was indeed Joe's son.
How could Joe explain this to make Susan less angry and willing to spare Hunter's life?
Joe raised his hand, intending to knock.
As his hand was raised, Joe hesitated and slowly lowered it.
Just as Joe was indecisive, the door suddenly opened. Carol, who was about to come out, saw him, her eyes lit up, and she quickly said to Susan inside. "Mom, Dad is here!"
There was no sound from the room.
Carol smiled helplessly and said to Joe, "Mom has been waiting for you! You should come in quickly!"
Joe lowered his voice and asked, "How is your mom now? Is she calmer?"
Carol nodded. "I've been comforting and guiding her for a while, and she's finally a bit calmer now! Be careful with your words later; don't make Mom angry again."
Joe wanted to!
However, the matter of Hunter was bound to make Susan angry.
Yet Joe couldn't avoid talking about it.
While Joe was still hesitating, Carol had already pulled him into the room. "Mom, Dad is here to see you! You two should talk calmly! Keeping angry will only make things worse."
Susan was sitting on the bed.
Although her eyes were still red and swollen, at least there were no more tears.
Susan's anger seemed not to have completely dissipated, as she gave Joe an angry glance and then looked away.
Joe rubbed his forehead. "Susan, you..."
Just as Joe didn't know how to start, Susan spoke first, "I heard from Carol that you suspected there was an issue with the paternity test, so you took hair samples for another test!"
Her voice was much gentler compared to when they were in the wine cellar.
Obviously, her anger had mostly subsided.
Joe didn't know what to say.
Seeing Joe not speaking, Susan patiently asked again, "It's been a while; the results should be out by now, right? Is he your illegitimate son?"
Joe couldn't speak. After a moment of hesitation, he stiffly nodded.
Susan didn't see Joe nodding since she wasn't looking at him. Seeing that he wasn't answering, she couldn't help but look at him and ask again, "Answer me, is he your illegitimate son?"
Facing her gaze, Joe opened his mouth, but he couldn't answer or nod again.
After being married for so many years, Susan knew Joe well.
Seeing Joe's difficulty in speaking, Susan knew the answer.
She became increasingly desperate.
