Chapter 624 Uncle Patricia is Your Daughter
When Patricia arrived at the hospital, Martin was already unconscious and had been rushed into the emergency room for treatment.
Her first task upon arrival was to sign the critical condition notification.
As she signed, her hands trembled, and the two simple words appeared almost illegible. If one didn't look closely, it was hard to discern what she had written.
The nurse took the signed notification and hurried into the emergency room.
Another nurse approached Patricia to explain the situation.
"The patient hasn't been well these past few days. Dr. Jim wanted to tell you earlier, but Mr. Langley insisted on keeping it from you."
"When Dr. Jim called you, Mr. Langley was conscious, but shortly after the call, he suddenly lost consciousness. We initiated emergency measures immediately."
Patricia's heart clenched.
Martin had been like this for a while?
And she hadn't noticed at all.
Every time she inquired about his pale complexion, he would come up with an excuse to brush her off.
She had never noticed anything unusual about him, so she believed his words.
She never expected that his condition would deteriorate to this extent.
And she had been kept in the dark all along.
When she expressed her unwillingness to deceive Kaleb by pretending to be Kaleb's child, he respected her decision and never objected.
Now, she realized that she hadn't cared enough for him.
As the color drained from her face, the nurse tried to comfort her, "Don't worry too much. Dr. Jim is doing everything he can to save him."
"Thank... thank you..."
These are two simple words, yet they feel like an immense effort.
Tears welled up in her eyes uncontrollably.
She had no idea how long she had been crying outside while Martin was being treated in the emergency room.
Finally, the red light outside the emergency room went out, and the two closed iron doors slowly opened.
A doctor wearing a mask emerged from inside.
Even though only his eyes were visible, the gravity of the situation was palpable.
Patricia hurriedly approached and asked, "Dr. Jim, how is my husband? Is he okay?"
Dr. Jim took off his mask and forced a smile to reassure her. "Don't worry, he's not in immediate danger! However, his condition is deteriorating, and many of his bodily functions are severely impaired! You need to prepare yourself."
Patricia was taken aback, and her legs went weak, causing her to stagger back.
Dr. Jim quickly supported her.
"Don't be too sad! In fact, considering Mr. Langley's condition, it's already remarkable that he has made it this far!"
Patricia understood what the doctor meant.
Long ago, when Martin regained consciousness, the doctor had estimated that he could only hold on for a month at most.
Now, it had been several months.
These days could be considered the time they had won.
After a brief exchange with the doctor, Martin was wheeled out of the emergency room by a nurse, and Patricia followed them to the ward.
Seeing Martin still unconscious, tears streamed uncontrollably down her face.
She bit her lip tightly, not allowing herself to make a sound.
After a struggle in her heart, Patricia took out her phone, walked to the balcony, and dialed Maximilian's number.
"Sullivan!"
Leaning on the balcony railing, Patricia looked at Martin in the ward, took a deep breath, and made up her mind. "Mr. Reed, I'm willing to help you."
Maximilian obviously didn't expect her to agree and was somewhat surprised.
"Why did you suddenly change your mind, Patricia?"
Patricia's voice was hoarse. "I can't wait any longer, and my husband doesn't have time to wait!"
Maximilian instantly understood and didn't ask any further.
Patricia asked, "Are you sure you can handle the paternity test?"
Maximilian smiled. "That's a given. If I can't even do that, how can I show my ability to call the shots in the United States!"
Upon hearing this, Patricia felt relieved. "Good! Keep me updated on any progress on your end!"
"Got it!"
After ending the call, Patricia turned to look outside, closed her eyes, took deep breaths repeatedly, and comforted herself. Deceiving Kaleb was also a last resort.
After Martin recovered, she would tell Kaleb the truth.
On the other side.
After ending the call with Patricia, Maximilian left and instructed his assistant, Frank, to prepare the documents.
It was challenging to find information, but it was very simple to forge it.
In no time, Frank had all the documents ready.
Maximilian took the prepared documents and drove to Kaleb's house.
Kaleb was sitting in the yard, studying chess.
He was studying the chessboard while scratching his head.
"No! She clearly made this move, but... why is the result different from hers? It's so strange?"
"How did she play chess..."
"Ah... my head hurts..."
Seeing his self-talk, Maximilian suppressed a smile and walked over, pretending to be anxious.
"Uncle... I found..."
Kaleb's mind was on the chessboard in front of him, and he didn't listen carefully, casually responding, "Found what? Why are you here instead of at the company?"
"I found your daughter, my niece..."
Kaleb's hand, which was about to make a move, paused, and the chess piece in his hand fell with a clatter.
He turned around abruptly, looking at Maximilian in disbelief. "What... what did you say? You found my daughter?"
Maximilian nodded vigorously. "Yes, it turns out that your wife gave birth to a girl! She is your daughter, my niece."
Kaleb grabbed Maximilian's arm excitedly, tears shimmering in his eyes, and asked eagerly, "Where is she? Where is my daughter?"
Maximilian smiled. "You know her, you've seen her."
After hearing this, Patricia's face inexplicably flashed through Kaleb's mind.
"No, it can't be Patricia, right?"
Maximilian nodded vigorously. "Yes, it's her! I never expected that she would be the niece I've been looking for!" he said, handing him the documents. "These are the investigation materials. Take a look."
Kaleb's trembling hands took the documents.
Inside was a photo of Patricia and her mother.
Patricia and her mother were leaning against each other, smiling ahead.
Patricia was the daughter he had been yearning for more than twenty years.
There was also information about Patricia.
Maximilian explained, "Patricia's birthday is exactly eight months after you and your wife separated! Your wife waited for you for several months, but you didn't come back. In order to give the child a complete family, she married Patricia's father."
When he saw the words 'deceased' in the information about Patricia's mother, everything went black, and he almost fainted.
Patricia's mother was dead!
She had already passed away.
Her death was all because of him.
If he hadn't been so cowardly and had given Patricia's mother a home, she wouldn't have married another man with his child, only to be betrayed and end up with depression and suicide.
And his daughter had also lived unhappily since she was young.
