Chapter 899 Charles Leaves
Time just kinda slipped by.
Before you knew it, another week had flown past.
Charles woke up for a hot second that night but then, nada. He was out cold again.
This was Country D, though. Patricia and Martin couldn't hang around here forever. The Langley fam was all about Sunset Bay, and honestly, it made way more sense to head back there.
After some back-and-forth, everyone agreed to move Charles back to Sunset Bay for treatment.
Martin rounded up the best experts from all over to check out Charles's condition. He was hell-bent on waking him up.
Randy had originally come to Country D to chill after a breakup.
But with all this drama, his chill plans got axed. He decided to stick around in Country D for a bit, pretending to be Charles to run IntelliMerge Technologies.
When Stella heard they were taking Charles back to Sunset Bay, she flipped out, "No way! If you take Charles back to Sunset Bay, what about Hannah? She won't be able to see him!"
Randy tried to calm her down, "Look, given the situation, taking Charles back to Sunset Bay is the best move! They've got the top medical team there. Plus, it's our hometown. It's easier for my folks to take care of him."
Stella, eyes all puffy and red, protested, "But we've got a killer medical team here too!"
Randy got how much she cared about Charles and why she didn't want to let go.
He gently wiped her tears with his fingers and said softly, "But my folks can't stay here forever. They can't just leave Charles here and head back! All things considered, taking Charles back to Sunset Bay is the best call."
Plus, aside from a few of them, no one else knew about Charles's current state.
He couldn't even imagine the chaos if Fannie, Maria, and Declan found out Charles was basically a vegetable.
Stella knew he was right, "But I can't stand leaving him!"
She leaned her head on Randy's shoulder and sobbed, "That jerk Michael! He ran the company into the ground, blamed it all on Charles, and now Charles is like this. And then he took the coward's way out by offing himself. Doesn't he get how much pain he's caused us? Good riddance he's dead. If he hadn't killed himself, I would've torn him apart. Randy, I can't bear to leave Charles."
Over the years, even though they were just cousins, she had come to see Charles as her brother.
When Charles first had the accident, the docs said he might end up a vegetable. She was crushed but always believed he'd wake up.
But as time dragged on, her hope started to fade.
Especially seeing Hannah wasting away, staying by his bedside, talking to him—it was heartbreaking.
'When will this nightmare end?' Stella wondered.
Randy gently patted her back, "It's not like we're never coming back! If you miss him, you can head to Sunset Bay to see him. If you're scared of traveling alone, you can ask Hannah to go with you."
Stella was still a mess, leaning on Randy's shoulder, crying her heart out.
If Charles were going home healthy, she wouldn't be this torn up.
Because she knew Charles would definitely come back.
But Charles was going back like this.
Whether he'd wake up was still a big question mark.
If he didn't wake up, how could he come back?
She felt like this might be the last time she'd see him.
Even though she knew it was a bit dramatic, she was just scared.
She didn't want to be away from Charles for so long.
Randy let her cry it out, not stopping her. His strong hand gently stroked the back of her head, full of endless patience and understanding.
After she finally cried herself out and got tired, Stella wiped her tears and kept sobbing, "Sorry for messing up your shirt."
Randy shook his head, not bothered, "No biggie! I can wash it."
He pulled a handkerchief from his pocket and handed it to her.
Stella took it and wiped her face, blowing her nose loudly.
Randy stayed quiet.
Little did they know, while she was crying in the room, Hannah was crying against the wall outside.
Afraid of being heard, she bit her lower lip hard, not daring to make a sound.
After this, who knew when they'd see Charles again?
She couldn't handle it.
It felt like a piece of her heart had been ripped out.
The pain was unbearable.
A wild and terrifying thought even crossed her mind.
To keep Charles by her side.
No matter what it took, she wanted to keep him close.
This dark thought grew stronger and stronger, almost taking over before she managed to push it down.
She knew that in this situation, the best move was to take Charles back to Sunset Bay for treatment.
Given the Langley family's money and connections, this was the best option.
After finding out about this yesterday, she hadn't slept all night, nor had she cried. She just sat blankly on the couch in her rented apartment all night.
When she came to the room earlier and saw Stella crying, Stella's sobs hit her hard.
She couldn't hold back any longer, and all her emotions burst out.
It wasn't until Stella's crying stopped that she wiped her tears, took a deep breath, calmed herself, and slowly walked into the room.
Hearing footsteps behind her, Stella immediately turned around.
Seeing Hannah, her eyes reddened again. Afraid of making Hannah feel worse, she held back her tears and sobbed, "Hannah, don't be sad! When we have time, I'll go with you to Sunset Bay to see Charles! I believe he'll wake up soon."
Hannah didn't want the sadness to spread, forcing a smile that looked worse than crying.
Hannah replied, "I know! Their flight is at seven tonight, right? Let's help pack their stuff and take them to the airport."
Stella looked at Hannah cautiously, worried, "Hannah, you okay?"
Hannah forced a smile, "I'm fine. They're right; he'll get the best care in Sunset Bay. That's Mr. Watson's hometown."
Stella didn't say anything more.
Because she knew Hannah was right.
Even though everyone was super sad, they didn't say anything more and quietly started packing.
After finishing the discharge papers, Maximilian found a big business car to take them to the international airport.
With limited space, Carol didn't go along. To make room for one more person, Maximilian drove himself. Stella and Hannah squeezed into the back seat, Randy and Patricia took care of Charles by the bed, and Martin sat in the front passenger seat.
Hannah looked at Charles, feeling like her heart was bleeding, her hands clenched into fists.
No one spoke.
The car was so quiet it was suffocating.
