Chapter 77 Debbie staged a beautiful comeback.

Patricia didn't know what Martin and Madam Thomas talked about, but soon after, she received the news that Debbie had been reinstated.

The discussion among the group of cardiology doctors was lively indeed with each having a different opinion on the matter.

A coldness spread in Patricia's chest.

She never expected that Martin would actually compromise on this matter. Then what about the grievances she had endured? What about the harm Randy suffered? Her mind was flooded with these thoughts.

Indeed, there was no principle for Martin when it came to Debbie, no line Debbie couldn’t cross.

Fuming silently, Patricia began to prepare a new preoperative checklist for Randy, planning to perform another surgery in three days.

At that moment, Debbie swaggered into the office.

When Patricia saw her come in, all she did was give Debbie an expressionless glance, not even bothering to greet her.

Gladys, who had known about Debbie's reinstatement, had been waiting in the office and greeted her excitedly, "Teacher, you're finally back! I knew one day you'd return."

Debbie glanced at Patricia and dropped the pretense and snidely answered.

"Of course, there are some people however who didn’t want me to come back. If I didn't return, she could play God, dominating everything on her own. How could I let her have her way?"

Patricia naturally understood that her words were directed at her.

But she didn't bother to respond, as Debbie didn't mention her by name either.

Gladys provocatively looked at Patricia and proudly said, "Exactly, who has the real talent? It will become clear after some time."

After hearing their conversation, Patricia couldn't stay for another moment. She quickly completed the examination form and left.

Gladys scoffed at her retreating figure, saying, "She thinks she's a professor just because she's returned from abroad. Who knows if it's true or not?"

Sensing the tension between them, the other doctors in the office silently averted their gazes and chose not to speak.

Debbie deliberately raised her voice as Patricia walked away saying,

"Alright then, since Madam Thomas specifically asked me to treat her grandson, let's go over to the ward now and learn about the situation."

Gladys deliberately responded loudly, "Alright!"

The master and apprentice left the office with the medical records in hand.

Madam Thomas' grandson, Bobby Thomas, was assigned to the room next to Randy's. He was two years older than Randy and was diagnosed with coronary heart disease a month ago. After a month of conservative treatment that yielded no improvement, he was now being prepared to be admitted for a surgical intervention.

When Debbie made her rounds, Bobby was playing with building blocks. Upon seeing her, he immediately sweetly called out, "Auntie Debbie."

Madam Thomas saw her and warmly took her hand, saying, "Debbie, you finally came! We haven't seen each other in a month, have we? You didn't even come to visit me."

Debbie's eyes dimmed, and she lowered her head, whispering, "A lot has happened recently, so I couldn't make time."

Madam Thomas complained, in an attempt to comfort Debbie.

"I saw the news about you online! I've watched you grow up since you were little, and I know what kind of person you are. Those people online just like to follow the crowd. Don't take it to heart."

Debbie smiled faintly, "Thank you for trusting me, Grandma! These past few days have been the darkest in my life. If it weren't for your help, I might have fallen into depression."

Madam Thomas said seriously, "What nonsense are you talking? I am not helping you; I trust you to take care of Bobby. You were an outstanding student when you studied medicine, and now you're the youngest associate professor at work.”

Madam Thomas continued.

“I only believe in you; do you believe in that Patricia who came back from overseas? Diplomas from overseas can be forged."

Just as she finished speaking, Patricia happened to pass by the doorway. The door to the ward was not closed, so every word reached her ears directly.

Madam Thomas also noticed Patricia standing outside the door, the smile on her lips deepening. She continued deliberately in a sarcastic tone.

"Debbie, I heard about your affair with Martin! Don't worry, Martin is only temporarily enamored by Patricia's appearance. Once he wakes up, he will naturally return to your side. Relationships built on beauty don't last."

Debbie's peripheral vision followed Madam Thomas' gaze to the doorway.

Seeing Patricia standing there, a slow curve formed at the corners of her mouth. She lowered her eyes concealing her triumphant expression, and pretended to be modest saying, "Grandma, you think too highly of me." Debbie continued to belittle herself "Yes, I'm not as good as you say."

Madam Thomas liked this modest and unassuming personality and she liked Debbie even more.

"Farewell then and as long as I greet you well! I'm leaving Bobby's illness in your hands, and I believe you won't let me down, right?"

Debbie nodded and vowed, "Don't worry, I won't let you down. I'll give Bobby a full examination first and then come up with a treatment plan based on his condition. It won't take long before I can return to you a healthy grandson."

Madam Thomas nodded in satisfaction. "Very well, I believe you can do it." She accepted Debbies plan.

Patricia looked at Debbie's provocative face, clenched her fists tightly and suppressed her anger with all her strength, then left directly.

Seeing Patricia's figure leaving at the door, Debbie lowered her head, smirking with satisfaction, a hint of coldness flashed in her eyes.

This time, she must stage a beautiful comeback. She wanted to take back everything she had lost in the end.

...

Since agreeing to allow for Debbie to return to work, Martin had disappeared, and Patricia hadn't seen him since.

The next day, Patricia completed the discharge procedures that were remaining and officially threw herself into work.

She had lunch with Randy in the ward at noon, and in the afternoon, after handing him over to the nurse, she drove to pick up Charles and Fannie from school.

The two kids hadn't seen Patricia for a long time, so when they saw her at the school gate, they immediately ran excitedly towards her and hugged her thighs.

"Mommy, why are you here? Don't you need to accompany Randy at the hospital?" Charles asked showing his concern.

Patricia rubbed their little heads and smiled, "You're all my children, so I have to accompany him and you guys too!"
Fannie, understanding, said, "Randy needs you more than we do right now! Don't worry, Charles and I won't be jealous."

Patricia was pleased and said softly, "I know, but I missed you guys too! I'll cook tonight, what do you want to eat? Let's go buy it together."

Upon hearing this, Charles and Fannie's eyes lit up.

"We can really eat Mommy's cooking? That's great! You have no idea how terrible Jade's cooking is. Charles and I almost threw up."

Patricia couldn't help but tap Fannie's forehead and said, "You little scoundrel, you don't know how to appreciate things!”

“Jade has taken care of you for so long, and you don't even thank her. Now you say her cooking is bad. She would be heartbroken if she hears this." Patricia corrected her little ones.

Fannie playfully stuck out her tongue, "I only say that when Jade isn't around! In front of Jade, I always praise her!"

Patricia couldn't do anything about her and helplessly said, "Alright, alright! It's getting late, let's go home! I still have to go to the hospital tonight!"

Charles and Fannie nodded at the same time, holding Patricia's hands as they left.

Looking up, Charles asked Patricia, "Mommy, does Debbie and her daughter still bother you these days?"

"Do you have any trouble?" Charles was visibly concerned about Patricia’s wellbeing.

Patricia lowered her gaze, hiding her true emotions, and shook her head not wanting to cause concern. "No, we are too busy to have time for any trouble!"

"That's good! If they bully you again, let me know, and I will teach them a lesson," Charles reassured her.

Following his words, Fannie chimed in.

"Who would dare to bully mommy? That jerk of a father has already broken off his engagement with Debbie! She must be busy trying to reconcile with that jerk and wouldn't have time to bother with mommy."

Charles pursed his lips, looking disdainful. "That jerk of a father finally saw her true colors. Was he blinded before? He divorced mommy and got engaged to her."
Fannie shook her head disapprovingly. "Yeah! Mommy is so beautiful, but he doesn't like mommy but prefers those hypocritical women!"

Patricia remained silent, quietly listening to their conversation, unable to tell them that their jerk of a father had disappointed them again. He had fallen into Debbie's trap once more.
