Chapter 273 The Puppeteer
Jade was utterly stunned.
It took her a while to come to her senses, and even then, she couldn't digest the news. She pulled Patricia aside, gripping her arms tightly, her eyes bloodshot as she demanded, word by word, "Patricia, tell me, is what Charles said true?"
Patricia was too distressed to speak and could only nod.
Jade wouldn't let her off the hook, insisting on an answer,. "I want you to tell me yourself, is what Charles said true? Is Fannie gone?"
Frank also looked at her, hoping to hear the answer from her lips.
Patricia knew she couldn't handle the truth, but the fact was irrevocable, and avoiding it wouldn't change reality.
"Yes, Fannie is gone!. We searched for over ten days, to no avail,. nNot even her clothes were found."
Upon confirmation, Jade's legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.
Frank steadied himself against the couch, his body shaking.
Both were unable tocould not accept the truth, standing there dumbfounded for a long time without a response.
Finally, Frank came to his senses and lunged at Hunter, landing a punch on his face.
"You bastard, Fannie was just a five-year-old child, how!" he roared, landing a punch to Hunter's face. "How could you do such a thing to her? Are you even human?"
Hunter was caught off guard and fell to the ground from Frank's punch, his mouth bleeding profusely.
Patricia and Charles were shocked by his sudden outburst. As Frank was about to hit Hunter again, they rushed to pull him away.
"Brother, we'reWe're all heartbroken over Fannie's death, ," Patricia said, "but it wasn't his fault. He didn't know the typhoon was coming, and he did his best to save Charles..."."
Charles also spoke up,. "Mommy is right, Uncle. Hunter did everything he could,. nNo one wanted this to happen."
Frank wouldn't listen.
To him, Knowing Hunter was a scheming villain, capable of any atrocity to achieve his goals.
He was convinced this wasn't, it couldn't have just been a simple accident.
"Don't; let him hit me," Hunter gotsaid, getting up from the ground, and wiping the blood from his mouth, feigning guilt,
"Don't stop him, let him hit me, it'll. "It'll alleviate the guilt I feel."
Hearing Hunter's pretense, Frank was overcomeOvercome with rage. He, Frank shrugged off Patricia and Charles, grabbed Hunter by the collar, and dragged him towards the door.
Patricia and Charles were horrified and tried to intervene.
But Frank barked at them, "Don't follow, or I don't know what I might do."," Frank said.
Though he was warning Charles on the surface, the subtext was a warning to Hunter.
Patricia and Charles stood frozen in place, not daring to move.
Hunter, fearing that in his rage Frank would reveal everything, quickly said, "Don't worry,; he won't do anything to me, let," Hunter quickly said, fearing Frank might reveal something in his rage. "Let me talk to him."
"But..."
Patricia was still worried. "But..."
Hunter reassured her, "Really, don't worry. ," Hunter said. "Don't you trust Frank? Don't follow us, letLet me talk to him please."
With that, Patricia reluctantly refrained from stopping themstepped back.
Frank, nearly sick with Hunter's hypocrisy, dragged him out to the hallway.
Before Hunter could steady himself, Frank's fists swung at him again.
Punch after punch.
He vented, venting all his pent-up frustration and anger with each blow.
"Why? Why did you do that to Fannie... why... you bastard... scum... outcast... you're not human..."
Hunter didn't resist, letting Frank hit him. His face was bruised and bleeding, particularly the eyes and mouth.
His mouth, face, eyes—all bruised and bleeding.
Once Frank had enough, he pinned Hunter against the wall, lifting him off his feet.
"Hunter, you bastard, why did you kill Fannie? She was just a child?! How could you be so cruel?"
Hunter extended his hand, gently wiping the blood from his mouth, and chuckled lightly.
. "Are you done? WantDo you want to throw a few more punches?"
Frank was incredulous, realizing Hunter was cold-blooded to the point of being pathological. How could Patricia have gotten entangled with such a terrifying person?
How could Patricia have gotten entangled with such a terrifying person?
"I want to kill you..."
The words were squeezed through clenched teeth.
Heaven knows God knew the effort it took to utter those five words.
Hunter shrugged nonchalantly,. "Go ahead!; Ddo it!. I promise I won't fight back!"."
His attitude, seemingly indifferent to the pain, made Frank's punches feel like they were hittinghit cotton,. hHis eyes were bloodshot, like a wild beast in fury, wanting to tear Hunter apart but feeling powerless to do so.
An unprecedented sense of helplessness enveloped him.
Regret, self-blame, anger, resentment, sorrow, and sadness intertwined in his heart, torturing him mercilessly.
His hands fell away, and he collapsed to the floor in agony, cradling his head, a mournful wail escaping through the gaps of his arms, .
"It's all my fault, if," he said. "If I had told Patricia sooner what a bastard you are, today's tragedy wouldn't have happened, and Fannie wouldn't be dead. It's all my fault. My cowardice, my and incompetence, allowed your threats to get the better of me..."
Although Hunter neverhadn't admitted that Fannie's incident was his doing.
to it, Frank was a hundred percent certain— he was the culprit was him.
. This bastard.
He even had the heart to kill a five-year-old girl.
Utterly—he was utterly inhumane.
Hunter smirked, crouched down, and patted Frank's shoulder, speaking softly,. "How are you incompetent? If it weren't for you, your grandmother might have been dead by now. Being useful to me proves you have value."
Frank gritted his teeth in hatred.
This value, he would rather not have.
Hunter's smile grew gentler,. "Alright, you've hit me, you've and vented, so let's put this behind us!. I don't want to hear any gossip about this in front ofbefore Patricia,. oOtherwise..."
He paused, his voice suddenly dropping, menacingly, "Otherwise, you. "You know what will happen."
Frank suddenly looked up, incredulous at. Hunter.
Hunter was smiling.
But, but it made him shiver, his hair standing on end.
This wasn't a person.
It was a devil.
No.
W—worse than a devil.
"Are you even human?" Frank said.
Otherwise, why would someone be this terrifying?
Hunter's smile twisted into a grimace.
"I stopped being human over a decade ago! ," Hunter said, his smile twisted into a grimace. "What's so good about being human?
Endless crying, scolding, and beating. I realized long ago, that if being human is this painful, why should I be one? I'm doing just fine now,. I get whatever I want,. nNothing is out of my reach."
Frank was shocked, "You're a madman... you're a madman..."..." Frank said.
Hunter just smiled, "Say whatever you like..." As he finished speaking, heHunter said, smiling, and suddenly grabbed Frank's collar, threatening fiercely,. "But if you dare to utter a word, I assure you, your grandma will end up like Fannie."
With his weak spot in Hunter's grasp, Frank felt as iflike all his strength had been drained, collapsing powerlessly to the ground.
"It's about time to go back," Hunter stoodsaid, standing up, and elegantly dusting off his clothes.
"It's about time to go back, otherwise "Otherwise, Patricia will get suspicious..."."
His demeanor was nonchalant, as if nothing had happened.
Frank, like a marionette, had lost all sense of self, andfeeling like a marionette as he stood up dazedly, obediently following Hunter back.
