Chapter 627 Save him

"Kaleb and Maximilian followed to the bedside.

Looking at the pale and extremely weak man on the bed, Kaleb said nothing and proceeded to examine him.

Patricia and Maximilian stood quietly by, not daring to make a sound.

Kaleb used instruments to check his upper body first, then proceeded to check his lower body.

As time passed, his frown deepened.

Patricia felt nervous with her anxiety growing.

After the examination, Kaleb looked at Patricia with a serious expression and asked, ""How did he get so sick? His organs all have varying degrees of damage; it doesn't seem like an internal illness, but more like something caused externally.""

Patricia was incredulous, unable to believe that just by taking his pulse, Kaleb could understand Martin's condition.

Instantly gaining confidence, she became more convinced that only Kaleb could save Martin.

""You're right; his illness isn't internal but due to external injuries,"" Patricia said.

Patricia briefly recounted the sequence.

At first, Patricia was kidnapped to the United States by Hunter. Then, she gave birth to a child and entrusted the child to a friend. Finally, Patricia's child went missing. Martin went to find him. However, he was framed and severely injured.

That was just a brief overview.

But when it came to Martin's condition, she was very detailed, afraid of missing any useful information.

After hearing her story, Kaleb's eyes turned red with sorrow; he felt increasingly guilty.

""Patricia, don't worry, I will try my best to save him!""

Patricia's eyes welled up with tears of joy. ""Thank you for being willing to save him.""

Kaleb comforted her, ""We are family; there's no need to thank me! I will save him for sure.""

Patricia nodded vigorously.

Besides nodding, she didn't know what else to say.

The more she spoke, the more guilty she felt. She dared not to meet his gaze.

Kaleb said, ""His current condition is terrible; he needs to slowly undergo treatment. I will adjust his medication according to his condition because some medicines are ineffective if taken in excess.""

Patricia believed in him.

The fact that he could understand Martin's condition so clearly in a short time was enough to make her trust him.

Kaleb didn't waste time, taking a paper and pen to write down the necessary medications.

There weren't many medications listed, just a few.

He handed the prescription to Maximilian. ""You find these medicines for me, I will personally go get them! Some of the medicines are precious, but you must find them for me as quickly as possible.""

Kaleb hesitated for a moment, then wrote down a few more medications, handing them to Patricia.

""Let them prepare immediately and get more medication ready. His condition is very serious, so the treatment process will be lengthy! We need to be prepared for a long battle.""

Patricia nodded excitedly. ""Okay! As long as we can cure him, whether it takes one year, three years, five years, ten years, or even longer, it doesn't matter!""

For Patricia, every extra day Martin lived was a gift from God.

As long as he could survive, no matter how long the treatment process would be, it didn't matter.

Patricia took the prescription and went to the balcony. She took a photo and sent it to Frank, making a phone call to let him prepare the medications listed on the paper.

The more prepared, the better.

Because there were two uncommon medicines listed on the paper, Patricia was worried they might be hard to find.

""What should we do? Can you find a way to get them?"" Patricia asked.

Frank hesitated for a moment, then nodded firmly. ""Yes, I will find a way to get them for you!""

Patricia was moved to tears, saying, ""Thank you, Frank!""

Frank felt guilty. ""You don't need to be so polite to me, for I am responsible for this matter!""

If he had revealed Hunter's identity to Patricia from the beginning, perhaps none of the subsequent events would have occurred.

Patricia said, ""I don't blame you. You are also a victim.""

If Frank hadn't known Patricia, his grandmother wouldn't have been kidnapped by Hunter, indirectly leading to her death.

Frank was also a victim.

After the call, Patricia called Ryan, asking him to arrange a private plane to airlift the medications.

Ryan didn't dare to delay for a moment, immediately instructing his assistant to contact the airline and arrange the flight. Once Frank had the medications ready, the plane would take off immediately.

Maximilian also promptly took the paper to Frank to prepare.

Kaleb looked at Patricia's weary face, feeling sorry, comforting her, ""Patricia, you look tired. Why don't you go back and rest? I'll take care of Martin here.""

Patricia shook her head. ""No! I want to take care of him here! Even if I go back, I won't be able to sleep!""

After a pause, she continued, ""I think you should go back and rest early.""

Kaleb was worried. ""I can't bear to leave you alone here!""

At this moment, Patricia's mind was blank. Without much thought, she blurted out, ""I've been living safely all these years without you by my side! I can take care of myself.""

As soon as the words left her mouth, she regretted them deeply.

But she had already said that.

The room fell into silence.

The atmosphere in the room was awkward.

Martin coughed lightly, trying to speak to ease the tension, but before he could, Kaleb said, ""Patricia, are you still blaming me?""

""I'm not."" Patricia didn't know what to say.

Kaleb lowered his head, feeling guilty. ""I was indeed fickle back then, afraid of the engagement, so I chose to run away! I'm sorry to your mother and to you!""

Patricia fell silent.

Kaleb continued, ""For these years, I've had nightmares every night, dreaming of you and your mother covered in blood, waking up in a cold sweat every time. I dare not practice medicine anymore, afraid that the curse of that patient's family will come true! Since I found out you were my daughter, I've been thinking about how to make it up to you, to make amends for the years of owing you two!""

Patricia fell silent.

At this moment, she finally understood.

Kaleb no longer practiced medicine, not because of the curse from that patient's family.

But because of his nightmares.

He mistakenly believed that the curse of that patient's family had come true.

His wife and daughter had truly been cursed to death, so he no longer dared to practice medicine, afraid of treating and saving people.

He probably hadn't told Maximilian these things, so even Maximilian himself didn't know the real reason why Kaleb no longer practiced medicine.

Patricia couldn't bear it, saying, ""I don't blame you! Many things happened by chance! You don't need to be overly guilty and self-blaming. Besides, the curse is just a psychological effect on you! Don't dwell on it, and you won't have nightmares anymore.""

Kaleb smiled comfortingly. ""Now that I've found you, I won't believe in curses anymore! Even if it costs me my life, I will surely cure my son-in-law, Martin.""

The words ""son-in-law"" made Patricia chuckle involuntarily.

""I believe in you! I don't know who to trust but you!""

Kaleb tentatively held her hand, full of hope, saying, ""Can you call me dad?""

Patricia fell silent, unable to speak.

Kaleb didn't insist, and said with a smile, ""If you can't say it, then forget it. We have plenty of time in the future to get to know each other slowly.""

Patricia nodded in relief."
