Chapter 114 Reaching Consensus with Son
Emma didn't find Ethan's promises empty; every bite she took was satisfying. She even began to fantasize about having a new father.
Ethan tightly held his sister's hand.
"When we get home, I'll make you something delicious."
"Mmm, thank you, big brother," Emma replied.
Emma leaned on Ethan's small shoulder.
"Ethan, I want to livestream tonight."
"Alright."
Tonight, Mommy would definitely come back late, so they could livestream to their heart's content and have more time.
Sophia felt nervous and sweaty palms when she saw Sam. She carefully observed him, relieved to not see any fear or hatred in his eyes.
Could it be that Sam still didn't know the truth?
"Sam, Auntie hasn't seen you in a long time. Can I give you a hug?" Sophia asked eagerly as they got into the car.
Sam remembered what Ethan said, that he didn't have to pretend to be sick to deceive Aunt Kelly. He blinked his eyes.
Sophia hugged him in excitement.
"Sam, I missed you so much."
Her hand gently caressed Sam's frail back, like stroking a cat, and Sam nestled comfortably in her arms.
Gabriel glanced back from the driver's seat.
Risking it all, he had brought Sophia to pick up Sam after school. Seeing his son not rejecting her at all, but instead being affectionate, Gabriel's worries disappeared.
"What have you been doing recently, Sam?" Sophia asked, holding her son and pinch his little hands.
Afraid of his dad discovering something, Sam pretended he hadn't heard anything and looked absent-mindedly at a spot.
Sophia felt sorry for him. "I heard you have nightmares every night?"
Sam's small body shifted slightly.
"Don't be afraid, our little Sam is the bravest. Next time, imagine yourself as an invincible superhero. It doesn't matter what kind of monster it is; you can defeat it."
Her voice was gentle and soothing, like the clear and delightful flowing water of a spring, especially healing.
Sam wondered, can he really become a superhero?
Sophia took out a small sachet from her bag.
"This thing can be your weapon to defeat monsters. Keep it next to your pillow before going to bed, so you can have your weapon anytime."
Sam looked down at the sachet in his hand.
The scent of the sachet permeated the car, like the fragrance of elegant orchids or the subtle lilies. After taking a whiff, his previously restless heart seemed to be gently smoothed by a warm hand.
"What is that?" Gabriel inquired.
Sophia didn't want to talk to him much, but she was afraid he would throw the sachet away after going home, so she patiently explained,
"It's an herbal remedy I used before. It helps calm the mind and doesn't have any side effects on the body."
During her pregnancy, she struggled with depression and couldn't sleep through the night. Not wanting to worry Grandma Fu, she secretly sought out an old herbalist for help.
Balist, the old Herbalist, prepared a calming prescription for her. The sachet contained gentle herbs, which helped her sleep peacefully during that time. Today, she intended to find the old Herbalist again, but she discovered that he had already moved away, and the place had been transformed into a commercial center. Unable to find him, she could only remember the prescription and went to the pharmacy to gather the ingredients and make the sachet herself. She hoped that this prescription would also be helpful for Sam.
The two of them brought Sam to an elegantly decorated private restaurant. Gabriel seemed to be a regular here, as he naturally headed to the last private room on the second floor. After placing the order, the atmosphere inside the room became very quiet, so quiet that Sophia felt a sense of oppression. She took out her phone and asked Sam, "Do you want to watch cartoons?" Whenever Ethan and Emma were tired from playing outside, she would let them watch cartoons on her phone. But Sam wasn't interested in cartoons most of the time; he tended to immerse himself in his own world.
Sophia opened one of Emma's favorite cartoons and placed it in front of him, regardless of whether he watched or not, just to avoid the silence from becoming too overwhelming. She held Sam and watched the cartoon together. Sam originally didn't want to watch, but he ended up being forced into it, and surprisingly, he started enjoying it. He realized that cartoons could be this entertaining.
Gabriel sat across from them, silently observing. He received a phone call, but afraid of disturbing his son watching the cartoon, he quickly pressed the silent mode and left to take the call outside. "Sam, do you dislike Aunt Kelly?" Sophia continued to communicate with Sam while Gabriel was away. Sam was surprised because he didn't dislike Aunt Kelly at all. Seeing his lack of reaction, Sophia lowered her head sadly and said, "Okay, I understand. Sam doesn't like me, it's okay, I'm not sad at all." Sam, being the considerate little boy he was, couldn't bear to see someone he liked feeling upset, so he quickly grabbed her hand and shook his head earnestly. Sophia's heart was about to burst with joy.
So, this tactic worked on her son! Sam nodded and gestured, "I don't dislike Aunt Kelly. Aunt Kelly, please don't be sad." "But you got sick because of me." Sam didn't get sick because of Aunt Kelly. He pretended to be sick himself to confuse Aunt Kelly and prevent her from harming Ethan and Emma. He vigorously shook his hands, signaling, "I didn't..." Abruptly stopping, he inwardly panicked, almost revealing that he was faking it. "Didn't what?" Sophia asked, probing.
Finally getting a chance to interact with her son, Sophia wanted to quickly understand his true thoughts. Sam insisted, "I don't dislike Aunt Kelly. I really like Aunt Kelly." Sam then leaned in and affectionately kissed Sophia on the forehead. Sophia was momentarily stunned, and a rush of joy spread through her body. It felt like every pore was relieved and relaxed.
The clothes spread open,
Sam took the initiative to kiss her.
Does this mean he accepts her?
Sophia held Sam's face, wanting to give him a kiss too. At that moment, Gabriel came in through the door. Sophia quickly let go of Sam, and Sam sat up straight, continuing to watch the cartoons.
It's as if nothing happened at all.
Sophia blinked her eyes. Did she and Sam reach an agreement not to let Gabriel notice their interaction?
This time, Sophia was confident in her heart that Sam did not reject her. Whatever Gabriel said about her worsening the illness was probably all nonsense, simply because he didn't want her to develop feelings for Sam.
What a shameless bastard!
Sophia cursed Gabriel in her heart.
The main person sitting opposite her sensed a trace of hostility and looked up. Sophia happened to avert her gaze.
Gabriel raised an eyebrow, a hint of delight flashing in his phoenix eyes. He held his phone, his distinct fingers leaping across the screen.
He wasn't replying to any messages or working; instead, he was wearing wireless earphones and watching a live stream, sending gifts to Milk Sugar.
Today, Milk Sugar didn't appear, disappointing the fans. The comment section kept clamoring for Milk Sugar to show their face.
