Chapter 444 Clarification
Listening to Ruth, Sophia felt stuck. She didn't have the energy to protest.
"Ruth, I'll follow your advice." She didn't overthink it; Lancaster Manor was safer, especially for the kids. It didn't matter if only she was in danger, but she couldn't risk the kids.
"But Ruth, I still want to rent that house," Sophia continued.
Ruth raised an eyebrow, ready to argue, but Sophia explained, "My best friend Caroline needs a place to stay. I want to rent it for her and her child."
Ruth lit up. "Alright, I'll give you the house. Let your friend stay there for free. I have plenty of money; I don't need the rent."
Sophia smiled, knowing Ruth's habit of giving away houses.
Ruth then whispered, "It's all yours. If you ever fight with Gabriel, you can stay there."
Sophia stayed quiet.
Next door, Gabriel was deep in thought after hearing the report from his team.
His fingers traced the water glass. This kidnapping reminded him of when Sophia was giving birth. 'Could the same person be behind both events? If so, who could it be?'
'Sophia told the police that she suspected Tiffany, but Tiffany couldn't have planned the hospital incident back then. Now, she might be more capable of doing something like this,' Gabriel thought, but found no leads.
Both cases had dead ends, but maybesolving one could connect the dots to the other.
The key was finding those two nurses who had resigned.
Gabriel had a gut feeling there was more to these events. As for what, they'd have to uncover it bit by bit.
After Ruth fell asleep, Sophia called Caroline about the rental. Even though Ruth offered it for free, Caroline insisted on paying rent.
Sophia knew about Caroline's sense of pride, so she took the money and gave it to Ruth.
By five in the afternoon, Caroline had moved in with Josie and Lisa.
When Nicholas came back, Heights Hill Villa was empty.
Molly looked at Nicholas, unsure of what to say.
"Mr. Watson, I couldn't stop Ms. Clark from leaving this afternoon. I'm sorry," she said.
Nicholas looked defeated. He raised his hand slightly. "It's not your fault. Carry on."
"Yes, Mr. Watson."
In Country Y and Country M, Caroline had been so obedient and well-behaved. They lived together, in different rooms, but saw each other every day.
As soon as they returned home, she couldn't wait to leave him.
Nicholas glanced at the room she had stayed in.
His phone rang; it was Gummidge. Nicholas hesitated before answering.
"Nicholas, come home. We have nothing against you."
Nicholas stayed silent.
Gummidge continued, "We're doing this for your own good. Daisy is much better than Caroline, and she loves you. You two will be happy together. Besides, Daisy is carrying your child. You need to take responsibility for it."
Nicholas laughed. He thought he had made himself clear. Why couldn't they understand?
"Wherever Caroline and Josie are, that's my home. I'll still support you and Father," he said.
Gummidge's voice shook. "Nicholas, are you going to ignore your own child?"
"I'll say it again: that child isn't mine. I was never intimate in that way with Daisy. Ask her or do a paternity test."
Nicholas hung up and immediately texted Sharpe to publicly clarify his relationship with Daisy. Sharpe got the message and informed Paul.
Paul was thrilled. Nicholas was finally setting the record straight about Daisy!
Paul: [Sharpe, let me write the statement.]
Sharpe: [Then hurry up.]
Paul: [On it!]
Before they left Country Y, Paul had asked Sharpe to keep him updated on Nicholas' relationship status. Sharpe wasn't as strict as Charles.
Sharpe knew Nicholas still had feelings for Caroline and none for Daisy.
Only Charles thought Nicholas and Daisy were a perfect match.
At the airport, Sharpe had arranged for Caroline and Nicholas to sit together and took photos of them embracing. It was all orchestrated by Paul.
Sharpe had already sent the photos to Paul.
Soon, Paul sent back a draft statement. Sharpe smiled after reading it.
If this sternstatement was released, it wouldn't just ruin Daisy's reputation; it would offend the entire Wolf family.
He decided to tweak it a bit.
The more high-profile the wedding, the more high-profile Nicholas' clarification would be.
It quickly became a trending topic.
The online marketing accounts went wild. Just when they thought there was no news, a business world bombshell dropped.
Netizens went crazy. A grand wedding had just been announced, and now Nicholas clarified that he hadn't attended.
In the clarification statement, Sharpe released flight info proving Nicholas was in Country M on the wedding day.
It was all the wishful thinking by the Watson and Wolf families.
The statement was very hurtful to Daisy. Seeing it online, her face turned pale. She gripped her phone tightly, tears forming in her eyes. Her chest heaved.
She suddenly screamed, threw her phone down, and swept all the jewelry off the table.
The noise made Mia rush over. She hugged the seemingly deranged Daisy.
"Daisy, calm down. You still have a child in your belly. Calm down!"
Hearing about the child, Daisy suddenly came to her senses. She touched her belly and then smiled. "Yes, I still have the child. My child is Nicholas'. He can deny the wedding, but he can't deny the child."
Seeing her calm down, Mia sighed in relief and sat with her on the bed.
"Now you have to put your child first. Let Nicholas say whatever he wants. Once the child is born, he can't deny it."
"That's right." Daisy listened to Mia, but tears still streamed down her face.
"Mom, I want Caroline dead." She leaned against Mia, speaking venomously.
Mia's eyes narrowed, and she slowly stroked Daisy's back.
"She will die. She will die sooner or later."
It was unclear whether she was speaking to herself or to Daisy.
