Chapter 431 Found It
Daniel sent Clayton abroad to toughen him up and teach him some life lessons. Instead, Clayton just got good at partying and picked up no good habits.
Daniel had to pull a lot of strings to get Clayton into that school. Now, Clayton had beaten up the principal's son, and getting expelled was the least of his worries.
"If it doesn't work out, let him come back. We can find a good university here for him to get a diploma," Linda sighed.
"Okay."
After talking with Linda, Daniel went to the office. As soon as he sat down, he got a phone call.
Daniel stood up excitedly after picking up the phone.
"Really?"
A man's voice came from the other end. "I'm about to visit the dean."
"Wait for me, I'll go with you!"
Daniel was thrilled. After so many years, there was finally a clue about his daughter.
He immediately asked his secretary to cancel the trip to Country Y to deal with Clayton's troubles and changed it to City H.
By noon, Daniel had landed at the airport in City H. His team picked him up, and they went to the home of the orphanage director, Saskia Adams.
Saskia had already retired, and it were her children who greeted Daniel and his team.
Saskia's daughter said, "My mother has Alzheimer's. She doesn't remember much and is sometimes clear-headed and sometimes confused. You can ask me if you have any questions, and I'll tell you what I know."
Daniel saw Saskia's cloudy eyes and tried talking to her, but she didn't respond, leaving him disappointed.
However, he held onto hope and asked Saskia's daughter.
Saskia's daughter went into a room and brought out a booklet.
"This is the list of children from the orphanage back then. See if the person you're looking for is on it."
Daniel quickly took it, so excited that he forgot to thank her.
Saskia's daughter said, "A big fire burned down the orphanage back then. Many children couldn't be rescued in time and perished in the flames. The rescued children were all relocated."
"This booklet was recreated by my mother from memory. The names circled are the children who died in the fire."
Daniel saw a girl named "Diana" and felt a painful blow when he heard her words.
This Diana had died in the fire.
'Maybe it was just a coincidence?' he hoped.
Sure enough, Daniel flipped through and found another child named "Diana".
"The names marked with asterisks are the children who were adopted."
"Can we find out the information of the adopters?" Daniel asked.
He hoped that the adopted Diana was his daughter.
At the same time, Mia hurried to Daniel's house.
The two families didn't live far apart, and Mia was out of breath from running.
After a few days of rest, she had finally regained her color.
"Linda, I..." Mia panted.
"Don't rush, what happened? Take your time," Linda said.
"I found Diana!"
Linda's whole body stiffened, and the next second, she grabbed Mia's hands tightly, like a vise, causing Mia pain.
"Say that again."
"I found Diana."
"Really?"
"This time there's no mistake, Linda. I'll take you to see Diana right now."
Over the years, Linda and Daniel had taken many wrong turns in their search for Diana, losing hope more and more.
Suddenly, Mia told her she had found Diana.
Linda felt like she was dreaming.
Mia pulled Linda into the car and headed to the hospital.
"A while ago, I wasn't feeling well after leaving the police station, so I went to the hospital. I didn't expect to see her there."
"She has the same birthmark on her back as Diana."
Linda's hands were tightly clasped together. Whether Mia was right or not, she needed to see the child immediately.
She couldn't give up even a glimmer of hope.
Soon, they arrived at the hospital.
A frail girl lay on the hospital bed, her face pale. A middle-aged couple was by her bedside, looking hopeless.
"Who are you?"
Mia quickly explained their purpose, and the couple exchanged glances.
"Diana was indeed adopted from the orphanage, but how can you prove you're her biological parents?" the middle-aged man asked.
"My daughter has a birthmark on her back. Can I see her back?"
With the girl's consent, the curtain was drawn, and with the help of the girl's mother, Linda saw the fingernail-sized birthmark on the girl's back.
It was exactly the same as her daughter's.
Years of longing for her daughter made Linda lose control. She hugged the girl and cried.
"Diana, my daughter, I finally found you."
Mia also wiped her tears.
After a while, she said, "Linda, since we're already at the hospital, let's do a DNA test."
The middle-aged couple agreed, "Yes, just in case there's a mistake."
The girl also nodded.
Linda finally came to her senses and took the girl's and her own hair.
"Linda, you stay with the child. I'll take this to the doctor."
"Okay." Linda was almost certain this child was her daughter. After all, such a unique birthmark wasn't common.
Having finally found her daughter, Linda didn't want to leave for a moment, so she handed the hair to Mia.
The girl was still a bit shy, so Linda chatted with her adoptive parents, confirming that the age and other details matched.
"By the way, what illness does Diana have?" Linda asked.
The couple's faces turned ashen. "Leukemia, late stage."
It was like a bolt of lightning struck Linda. She swayed and held onto the bedside table.
She had just been overjoyed, and now she was plunged into despair.
Daniel was on his way back to City B when he received Linda's call. He could barely contain his excitement about the clue he had found, but then he heard Linda crying.
"Daniel, I found Diana."
When Daniel rushed back, it was already late, but he still met the girl and her adoptive parents.
"Which orphanage did you adopt Diana from?"
"Hope Orphanage in City H."
It was correct!
Daniel asked a few more questions, and everything matched.
At that moment, Mia also came with the DNA test results.
The report showed that the critically ill girl was indeed their daughter, Diana Wolf.
On the weekend, Sophia was home alone after a video call with her three kids.
The kids were having so much fun outside that they didn't want to come home and were clamoring to stay out for two more days.
Sophia was helpless.
The doorbell rang, and she thought it was Gabriel or Jake, so she hurried to open the door.
But then she saw Ella and Chloe standing outside.
"Sophie." Chloe started crying as soon as she saw Sophia. She walked over shakily and hugged Sophia.
"It's so good that you're alive. I missed you so much. Why wouldn't you come to see me? I have to come find you myself."
