Chapter 212 Grandfather and Grandmother
Their love affair had been going on for five years.
During these five years, Gabriel had given Tiffany chances time and again, showing continuous forbearance, but it seemed to no avail.
Harrison's question lingered in his mind... Did he like Tiffany? And if so, how much?
The answer was that he liked her, but only the Tiffany from back then who had urgently argued with the doctor at the hospital on his behalf.
Over the past five years, he had never again felt that kind of affection for Tiffany.
Besides, there was the matter of his grandmother and Sam standing between them.
He could marry Tiffany without regard for his grandmother's approval, but he couldn't ignore Sam's wishes.
He visited the hospital in the morning. His grandmother was awake, but she was still in the sterile ward, where visits were not yet possible.
Gabriel went to see the attending physician, whose update on his grandmother’s condition gave him peace of mind.
After Christmas, the Lancaster Group would invest in the physician's team, providing funds for medical research.
The physician was so excited that he nearly wanted to spin Gabriel around in a hug.
When it was about time, Gabriel went to the restaurant to have lunch with Tiffany, but even after waiting for over ten minutes, Tiffany hadn't arrived.
Tiffany was usually punctual. Why was she so late today?
Gabriel took out his phone and called her, but no one answered.
Then a call came from his property management staff.
Gabriel's face changed, and he left abruptly, speeding all the way to Mansion Heights.
Upon seeing him, Tiffany collapsed emotionally into his arms.
"Gabriel, I... " Tiffany's suppressed anguish was evident.
Today, Tiffany hadn't put on perfume, and Gabriel, accustomed to this, started to feel internal agitation. He struggled to restrain himself and gently patted Tiffany's shoulder.
"It's okay now."
"Gabriel, I didn't expect him to find me."
"Where is he?" Gabriel asked the property staff nearby.
The property management staff member replied, "We've already driven him away."
"Did you call the police?"
"No, since the person didn't do anything, the police wouldn’t be able to help us much."
Tiffany shrank into Gabriel's embrace, looking terrified as if she had seen death; her face was deathly pale, and her lips were quivering.
Usually, Tiffany was very image-conscious in front of others, always looking bright and shiny. Now, to see her in this state, Gabriel couldn't help but feel compassion.
He reached out an arm to half-embrace her.
"It's alright; let's go back," he suggested.
Tiffany nodded obediently, following Gabriel, but on reaching downstairs, she refused to move.
"Gabriel, I'm really scared. He knows this place now; can I move somewhere else?"
Gabriel frowned slightly in disapproval.
"Even if you change locations, if he's determined, he'll find out. I'll send some bodyguards over, and you should have them accompany you whenever you go out for a while."
Tiffany bowed her head.
"If he shows up again, immediately call the police."
Tiffany broke down in tears once more.
"I'm sorry, Gabriel; I just can't control myself. The shadow he cast on me... I'll never be able to heal from it."
She was a psychologist, capable of treating others' mental health issues, but she couldn't heal herself.
However, as long as she didn't see that person, she wouldn't have any problems.
Seeing Tiffany like this, Gabriel wanted to say something, but it wasn't convenient, so he sighed internally.
Tiffany also refused to dine out, so Gabriel reluctantly ordered food, and they had lunch together in the dining room.
After Tiffany fell asleep, Gabriel stood on the balcony, blowing the wind and holding his phone.
"Tiffany's uncle has come looking for her. Send some bodyguards to protect her. Also, find out the purpose of her uncle's visit."
Alex on the other end agreed.
Just as he hung up, the phone rang again—it was the hospital.
"Mr. Lancaster, Madam Lancaster has now been moved to a regular ward; her condition is stable."
"Alright, I'll be right there."
Gabriel glanced at the bedroom, left a note, donned his coat, and departed.
Tiffany, upon hearing the sounds of the door opening and closing, opened her eyes.
All the fear within them had vanished...
…
Madam Lancaster was still quite weak and could hardly speak. Sophia came to visit and went back to tell Ethan and Emma.
"We want to go see Great-grandma," said Emma in her sweet, soft voice.
"Let's wait until Great-grandma is a little better, then Mommy will take you to see her."
"Okay."
"Why did Mommy buy so many lilies?" Ethan asked, looking at the purchases that had been brought home today.
"We're going to visit your grandparents tomorrow."
It was the first time Ethan and Emma heard their mommy talk about their grandparents. Both children's eyes widened with eager curiosity.
Sophia laughed softly, "Your grandparents were very kind people. If they were still with us, they would have loved you very much. So tomorrow, let's have a moment of silence in front of Grandma and Grandpa to show our respect."
"Is Sam going too?” Ethan asked.
"Yes, he's going too."
Sam was her son, naturally, he should go.
However, would Gabriel allow her to take Sam away tomorrow?
Sophia tried sending Gabriel a message on WhatsApp, and to her surprise, Gabriel agreed quite amicably.
The next day, after picking up Sam, Sophia returned to get Ethan and Emma.
It was the first time Sophia had taken her three children out by herself, but all three little ones were well-behaved and quiet, making things very easy for her.
When they stopped at a red light, Sophia looked at the three little ones sitting in a row behind her, each engrossed in a book. They were so good and so focused that she couldn't bear to interrupt them.
As they approached the cemetery, a car came from the opposite direction, and Sophia swerved slightly to avoid it.
Colin glanced in the rearview mirror. He thought he had just seen Sophia.
Was he mistaken?
What would she be doing in such a desolate place?
"What's wrong?" A voice, old yet kind, asked.
"It's nothing, Grandma," Colin replied, coming back to his senses.
Sophia parked the car and took some items from the trunk, with each of the little treasures holding a bunch of flowers.
"Be careful, the walkway might be slippery," Sophia cautioned the three little ones.
"We know," the two little treasures responded in unison, and Sam clutched the hem of her clothes tightly.
The group, one adult and three children, slowly stepped onto the cobblestone path, ascending step by step.
They finally arrived at Sophia’s parents' joint burial site.
Sophia was taken aback.
There was a bouquet of flowers in front of the tombstone; it was clear that someone had just come to pay their respects.
Who else would come to visit her parents' graves?
Could it be... the Wilson Family?
Impossible!
Sophia quickly dismissed the thought. How could anyone from the Wilson Family come to pay homage to her parents? Those people were ruthless, wishing her mother never existed.
Perhaps it was a friend of her parents.
"Is this Grandma and Grandpa?" Emma asked, looking at the photo on the tombstone.
Grandma and Grandpa look so nice.
Sophia looked like Grandma while Grandpa looked like a movie star.
Hey, Sam also resembled Grandma a bit.
Emma alternated her gaze between the photo and Sam.
"Let's pay our respects to Grandma and Grandpa."
