Chapter 321 Collaboration
Gabriel tried to interact with the children, but Ethan didn't pay much attention to him, and Emma only occasionally responded, leaving him speechless.
Sam communicated with Gabriel through gestures.
They walked to a secluded place, and Gabriel looked at Sophia, who was six feet away from him.
"Sophia," he called out to her,
Sophia furrowed her brows.
"I'm sorry."
Sophia suddenly stopped in her tracks, wondering what Gabriel was up to.
"I apologize for the harm I caused you in the past, for preventing you from seeing the children; I'm sorry."
Sophia's calm heart was stirred up but soon calmed down again.
"I will spend the rest of my life repenting, making amends to you and the children."
Gabriel spoke earnestly, not at all joking.
His eyes were beautiful, and when he gazed deeply at someone, it was easy to get lost in them.
In those beautiful eyes, there was now regret and sincerity.
Sophia's heart pounded fiercely; she stared at Gabriel intently, memories flooding back.
Five years ago, when she received those ambiguous photos of Gabriel with Tiffany and the provocative messages from Tiffany, she had thought that if Gabriel appeared before her immediately and explained everything, she would forgive him instantly.
But now it was too late; those wounds had formed indelible scars on her heart, constantly reminding her of those sad memories.
Sophia didn't care; she said nothing and continued walking with the children.
Gabriel knew that a simple apology wouldn't earn Sophia's forgiveness; he just wanted to tell her while she was clear-headed that he was wrong!
Half an hour later, Gabriel took them back, and he took out a bag of snacks from the trunk of the car.
"These are snacks for the children and some toys."
Sophia took them.
Gabriel waved to the three children. "You be good; I'll come see you again next time."
Ethan and Emma turned and walked away; Sam waved and then followed Ethan and Emma inside.
Gabriel thought that today, accompanying the children for a walk was also indirectly accompanying Sophia.
He watched as Sophia and the children entered the elevator, and after a while, estimating that they had arrived, Gabriel left in his car.
At night, Sophia lay in bed with the children, preparing to tell them a story.
Before telling the story, Sophia wanted to chat with the children.
"Tell me, what do you think of Daddy?"
Emma pouted unhappily. "Bad daddy bullies mommy; I don't want to like bad daddy."
Ethan said, "I only want mommy, not daddy."
Sophia looked at Ethan, and during the walk, she noticed Ethan harbored a great deal of resentment towards Gabriel.
Her heart ached.
Sophia hugged the three children and earnestly said, "I know you love Mommy the most."
Emma said, "Of course, Mommy is loved the most in the world."
Sophia said, "I love you the most, too, so I don't want you to carry hatred in your hearts."
Her children shouldn't bear these burdens; they should grow up carefree and happy.
"Your daddy isn't a good husband, but he's a good father; he loves you very much; the things between him and me are too complicated for you to understand at your age."
"Ethan, promise me, don't hate daddy anymore, okay?"
Sophia didn't want to speak well of Gabriel in front of the children, but she didn't want the children to be hurt because of adult matters either.
Ethan hugged Sophia and softly agreed.
Sophia began to tell the children stories until they fell asleep, then she got out of bed to turn off the lights.
In the middle of the night, Sophia suddenly woke up in the darkness; she felt a wet sensation on her hand; the little one nestling beside her was trembling.
Sophia hurriedly turned on the night light.
Ethan and Emma were sleeping soundly; only Sam's shoulders were shaking. She turned him around, and Sam's tears were streaming down his face.
"Sam, what's wrong?" Sophia lowered her voice and gently held him in her arms.
Sam pursed his lips, tears silently streaming down, his eyes becoming even clearer under the wash of tears.
After a while, Sam finally stopped crying, and Sophia continued to ask him.
"Why were you crying?"
Sam then gestured with his hand, "I miss Daddy."
Sam had a nightmare where he had a mommy but no daddy; having a daddy meant no mommy.
He didn't know whether to choose mommy or daddy.
If he had chosen Mommy, Daddy would have been very sad; Daddy loved him so much, and he didn't want Daddy to be sad.
But if he chose daddy, mommy would also be sad; mommy would get sick, and he didn't want mommy to get sick.
Sophia held Sam tightly, her voice choked with emotion. "I'm sorry. It's my fault. I..."
She hadn't noticed Sam's emotional change immediately; she had been neglectful!
Sam shook his head. "Mommy, it's not your fault."
Sam snuggled in Sophia's arms, gesturing, "Mommy, please don't get sick again, okay?"
Tears welled up in Sophia's eyes; she nodded frantically. "Okay, I promise you, I won't get sick again."
"Thank you, mommy."
Sam quietly nestled in Sophia's arms, gradually falling back asleep, but Sophia couldn't sleep anymore.
Tiffany was also unable to sleep.
No matter how attentive she was, Gabriel was now ignoring her; she couldn't even see him, and her messages went unanswered.
Not long ago, they were the envy of many as a couple.
Clearly, he still cared about the time Sophia saved him.
Tiffany had been unable to sleep for several nights in a row; she was very anxious.
At this rate, Gabriel would only rekindle his old flame with Sophia.
She had to find a way to stop it.
Suddenly, Tiffany thought of Sophia's relapse of depression; if she could use the same trick again, she could make Sophia even more depressed.
With this in mind, Tiffany immediately made a phone call.
"Get me a phone number that can't be traced back to me."
"Oh, by the way, how did the investigation into Sophia's postpartum hemorrhage go?"
"Remember, be careful, don't let Gabriel's people find out."
Tiffany hung up, took out a bottle of expensive red wine from the cabinet, and poured herself a glass.
She had always thought that Sophia's difficult childbirth and postpartum hemorrhage were due to premature birth and having triplets; she never expected that someone would want Sophia to die!
The enemy of an enemy was a friend.
As long as she could find out who was trying to harm Sophia, Tiffany could cooperate with that person to get rid of Sophia together.
Unfortunately, after so many years, those things were not easy to investigate, and with Gabriel's people also looking into it, she couldn't let Gabriel find out, making it even more difficult.
Thinking back, when she had just reunited with Gabriel, she had no money and hadn't built up her power. Otherwise, she would have done a better job than the person who wanted to harm Sophia.
She absolutely wouldn't give Sophia a chance to fake her death!
