Chapter 220 Caroline's Husband?
Jake interacted with Emma for a while, exchanged a few New Year's greetings with Sophia, and then continued his run. He jogged in the opposite direction to Sophia.
After passing them, the smile on his face widened, then quickly faded as he focused on his run.
"Mommy, Uncle Jake is so handsome; his eyes are so beautiful," Emma exclaimed, tugging at Sophia.
After a half-hour walk with the children, Sophia ran into Jake again at the entrance when they returned.
"Ms. Kelly, I heard there's a ski resort in the northern suburbs. How about taking the kids there tomorrow?" Jake suggested.
The prospect of skiing made Emma very excited. "Mommy, I want to go skiing."
Sophia had been thinking about this for a while, but she had been too busy to arrange it. It would be perfect to take the children to play before the end of the holiday.
"Alright, we'll go skiing tomorrow."
Since Jake suggested it, it naturally happened the next day. Caroline also joined them.
Upon meeting Jake for the first time, Caroline pulled Sophia aside and whispered, "When did you start liking younger guys?"
Jake was dressed casually today, wearing a beige-colored hoodie with a black down jacket on top. He was over 5 feet 11 inches tall, with long and straight legs.
When he smiled, he looked a bit naive.
Sophia explained, "He saved me once, so I owe him. I just found out yesterday that he also lives in the Blue End community, so I arranged for all of us to go skiing together today. Don't just assume I have a romance going on with every guy you see; I have no feelings for Colin, and I have no feelings for Jake either."
Jake greeted Caroline with a cheerful smile, and Caroline responded with a smile as well. Sophia drove, with Caroline in the passenger seat, and Jake and the kids in the back seat.
"Uncle Jake, I won again!" Jake had been playing chess with the two children, and Emma excitedly announced her third victory. She was quite formidable.
"Hmph, I was just letting you win earlier. Now I'm going to get serious," Jake pouted, acting like a child and showing a competitive spirit.
"Let's play again!"
In the next round, Jake won, leaving Emma blinking in surprise. "Uncle Jake, you're so bad; you were hiding your real strength."
Jake replied, "This is called strategy."
"Hmph, Ethan, your turn," Emma brought out her secret weapon.
Ethan was eager to try. After one round, Jake won. In the second round, Jake won. The third round...
"Uncle Jake, how are you so good?" Emma looked at Jake in admiration.
Ethan was already very good, but Uncle Jake was even better. Ethan also looked at Jake with admiration.
Even though the backseat was very lively, Sophia continued to drive steadily. When they arrived, they found that there were so many people skiing today that it took them a long time to find a parking spot.
As they were changing into their equipment, Sophia looked into the distance and sighed, "There are so many people today." She would have to keep a close eye on the children to prevent them from getting bumped into by others.
After hearing this, Jake had an idea. "I'm going to the restroom."
As soon as Jake left, Caroline leaned in, "He plays well with Ethan and Emma, and it seems like Emma really likes him."
Sophia replied, "Emma likes anyone who is handsome."
Jake returned quickly, panting as if he had run back. "I just asked someone, and they said there's a slope over there that's not crowded. We can go there to ski."
Caroline exclaimed, "Wow, that's great."
After changing into their equipment, they slowly skied to the slope Jake mentioned. As expected, it wasn't crowded.
Sophia found it strange. There were crowds of people everywhere else, but only a few here. The only explanation was that this slope was exclusive.
There were people guarding the entrance to this slope, but they didn't stop them. Obviously, Jake hadn't really gone to the restroom. Sophia felt a strange stir in her heart.
Surprisingly, Jake was very good at skiing. He could even perform various difficult moves; he looked as good as a professional athlete. This excited Ethan and Emma, who clamored for Jake to teach them.
Sophia grew up in City B and often went skiing, so she was naturally skilled. Caroline, however, had not skied much, so Sophia was responsible for instructing Caroline while Jake taught Ethan and Emma.
It was a pity that Sam didn't come today. Sophia decided that they must bring Sam next time.
The two children had a blast, even when they fell hard, they didn't cry. They just stood up and continued to chase each other, laughing.
By the end, Ethan and Emma were still not tired and had worked up a sweat from all the fun. After this skiing trip, Ethan's score for Jake soared, reaching seven out of ten.
As they were taking off their gear, Sophia went to the restroom.
Ethan's gear seemed to be stuck and wouldn't come off. Caroline helped, while Jake held Emma and pointed to a slope in the distance.
"Look, next time I'll take you to ski down that little slope," he said.
Emma's cheeks flushed with excitement.
"Nicholas, is that Caroline?" Daisy, dressed in ski gear, stood next to Nicholas and asked in surprise, "And there are two kids. Is she married? Is that man her husband?"
Her string of questions drew Nicholas' gaze. His normally icy gaze grew even colder. The man looked like a recent graduate. Why had Caroline chosen someone so young? And the kids were already so big...
So, after her hasty departure back then, did she quickly find someone new? This man probably wasn’t even the father of those two kids.
Nicholas wanted to look away, but for some reason, he couldn't. He stared intently at Caroline, who was carefully helping the children remove their gear. She was being so gentle as if she were afraid of hurting them.
"Dad." The coach helped Josie over. Her little face was red from the wind, and her eyes were a mix of fear and excitement.
Finally, Nicholas shifted his gaze back to Josie. Remembering the scene he had just witnessed, his disdain for Caroline deepened.
"Did you have fun?" He asked Josie.
She nodded. Her dad's leg wasn't good, and she had previously wanted to go skiing but didn't dare bring it up. She hadn't expected her dad to suddenly suggest they go.
Today was her first time skiing. It was thrilling and fun, even though she had some nasty falls.
"That's enough for today. We'll come again next time," Nicholas said.
Josie obediently went off to remove her gear.
"I didn't expect Caroline's husband to be that handsome. She must be very happy," Daisy commented.
Nicholas' cold gaze turned to her, making Daisy immediately shut her mouth, but she felt secretly pleased. She never expected Caroline to already have a husband and children. In that case, she didn't need to worry about Caroline and Nicholas rekindling their old feelings.
