Chapter 624 No Trouble

The Wolf Mansion was buzzing, and Linda was so hyped she couldn't catch a wink all night. Come morning, she glared at her dark circles in the mirror and had to cake on the makeup to hide 'em.

She got all dolled up, then did a once-over on the servants' work, checked the kitchen's spread, and made sure the dining room was on point.

But the big deal? Caroline's room.

Even though Caroline was just coming for dinner and not crashing at The Wolf Mansion, Linda still set up a room for her.

She wanted Caroline to know this was her crib, and she could roll in anytime she wanted.

"Daniel, are they here yet?" Linda clung to Daniel's arm, all jittery.

Daniel winced. "Chill, not yet."

"Why's it taking forever?"

Diana strolled over, trying to calm her down. "Mom, relax. They're probably on their way. Grab some water and take a breather; you've been at it all morning."

Linda just nodded absentmindedly. "Uh-huh."

But sitting still wasn't her thing.

"I'm heading to the gate to meet them."

Linda barely moved when Daniel pulled her back.

"Waiting here is fine," he said, exasperated.

Over forty minutes later, the car finally rolled into The Wolf Mansion. Even after the gate, it was still a bit of a drive to the house.

Bodyguards and servants lined up in two rows from the gate to the house. Caroline could hear their booming voices.

"Welcome Miss Clark and Miss Watson home!"

Talk about a grand entrance!

Nicholas grinned. "The Wolfs really roll out the red carpet for you."

Josie was a bit spooked at first but soon got curious, peeking out the car window.

The car stopped, and the door swung open. Linda nervously grabbed Daniel's hand.

Daniel was feeling the nerves too.

Paul got out first, and Clayton rushed up, giving Paul a hearty pat on the shoulder.

"Paul!"

Paul brushed him off and helped Nicholas out.

Clayton unfolded the wheelchair.

Then Caroline, Josie, and Lisa stepped out one by one.

Daniel and Linda moved in.

"Caroline."

With tears in their eyes, Daniel and Linda looked at Caroline like she'd been gone for years and they were finally seeing her again.

Linda wanted to grab her hand but hesitated.

"Caroline, come on in." Sensing Linda's hesitation, Daniel took the lead and casually grabbed Caroline's hand.

Seeing this, Linda's eyes widened, and she finally mustered the courage to take Caroline's other hand.

Caroline's hands were held by her parents, and she felt a bit stunned and awkward.

Even though it felt weird, she didn't really mind.

Linda was over the moon.

She was scared Caroline would pull away.

Caroline was led inside by them.

"Caroline, this is your home now. How about I show you around?" Linda asked gently.

Daniel chimed in, "They must be wiped from the car ride. Let 'em sit, chill, and grab a bite first, then we can do the tour."

"Yeah, sit down and eat something first."

Noticing Clayton holding Josie, Daniel immediately stepped forward and scooped Josie into his arms.

"Josie, Grandpa's got some sweets for you."

Clayton couldn't help but quip, "Dad, you look like a total kidnapper."

Diana stood off to the side, watching everyone gush over Caroline. Even Paul was giving her all the attention, and a pang of jealousy hit Diana hard.

She used to be the star of the Wolf family, but now it felt like she and Caroline had swapped lives.

It was a tough pill to swallow, and she felt off-kilter every now and then.

Diana hung her head, clenched her fists, and tried to shake off the jealousy.

After all, Caroline had saved her life.

Everyone was crowding around Caroline and Josie. Caroline couldn't escape Daniel and Linda's excitement. Since there was still some time before dinner, Daniel and Linda decided to give her a tour.

"This is the library. Let's check it out."

Caroline walked in, and the sheer number of books blew her mind.

"Caroline, this is your room," Linda said, opening a door.

Caroline stepped inside.

The room was huge, decked out in warm colors.

Her eyes immediately landed on a violin.

She walked over and gently picked it up.

This violin was a limited edition, super rare and pricey.

"Your mom had someone get this for you. She said you love playing the violin and would need one," Daniel explained.

Caroline was definitely into it. She touched the strings, itching to play.

Daniel noticed and said, "Why don't you play something?"

Caroline couldn't resist. She put the violin on her shoulder, holding it with her chin.

Years of practice had given her a small bump on her chin, but it didn't bother her, and she was used to it.

A beautiful melody filled the mansion.

Nicholas downstairs looked up.

Daniel was lost in Caroline's performance.

When she finished, Daniel asked, "Do you like the violin?"

Caroline didn't answer right away. After a moment, she put the violin back and wandered around the room.

Daniel and Linda looked a bit let down.

After checking out the room, Caroline said, "I really like it. Thank you."

She felt the deep love Daniel and Linda had for her.

She had just been so overwhelmed with happiness that she needed a moment before expressing it.

Daniel and Linda, now beaming, continued the tour.

"This is Clayton's room. We won't go in."

From behind, Clayton protested. "Why not show my room?"

Linda shot him a look. "You know why. Do you really want Caroline to see it?"

Clayton pouted.

"I want to," Caroline said, not wanting to hurt Clayton's feelings.

So she opened the door, took a quick look, and immediately shut it.

Caroline thought, 'Yeah, better not go in there.'

After the tour, the food was ready.

They were about to head to the dining room when Michael suddenly burst in.

"Daniel."

He ran up to Daniel, looking all guilty and sad.

Daniel frowned. "I don't care what mess you've made this time. Today is Caroline's homecoming dinner, don't ruin it."

Michael replied, "Daniel, I'm not here to cause trouble. I'm here for Caroline."

He glanced at Caroline.

Caroline's face was stone-cold.

She couldn't possibly smile at Michael, Daisy's father.

Daniel said, "Today is a family dinner. I don't care why you're here."

Daniel thought Michael was just here to stir things up and was about to kick him out.

But then Michael dropped a bombshell that left everyone stunned.
