Chapter 674 Faster Than Flipping Pages
On the surface, Nicholas and Caroline seemed to have patched things up, but deep down, Nicholas couldn't shake this nagging fear. He was terrified Caroline might leave him again.
The misunderstanding from years ago seemed resolved, but it still lingered.
As the night grew deeper, the house was silent except for Nicholas's shallow breathing.
Sharpe finally knocked on the door.
Nicholas didn't respond.
Sharpe knocked for a while with no answer. Worried something might've happened, he turned the doorknob and pushed the door open.
In the darkness, Nicholas sat upright, his back straight. Sharpe stopped in his tracks.
"Mr. Watson, you didn't have dinner. Want something to eat?"
Nicholas's mouth was dry, and his voice came out hoarse.
"No, I'm not hungry."
Sharpe opened his mouth to say something, but Nicholas spoke first.
"Do you think Caroline will cut me off completely because of this?"
Aragorn was his biological father, and Caroline was the love of his life.
He could cut ties with Aragorn, but he couldn't change their blood relationship.
Sharpe's mouth felt dry, and he didn't know what to say.
It seemed like saying anything would be useless.
But saying nothing was worse.
So he braced himself and said, "Maybe Miss Clark just needs some time to accept it and figure things out."
It was hard to tell if Nicholas even heard him. His eyes darkened, and his hoarse voice carried a hint of determination.
"Whether she figures it out or not, I will only want her for the rest of my life!"
Sensing Nicholas finally come out of that gloomy mood, Sharpe breathed a sigh of relief.
That night, Nicholas tossed and turned, and Caroline didn't sleep well either.
She was troubled by the whole thing.
Caught up in her emotions, she couldn't think clearly. She was totally stuck, so she called Sophia to vent.
Sophia had already seen the news online.
Daisy really blew up the whole thing, and the video of Daisy being exposed in public spread quickly.
Daisy's reputation was completely ruined, and netizens even made up stories to mock her.
Sophia had planned to ask Caroline about it in the morning, but Caroline called in the middle of the night.
She turned on the bedside lamp and sat up, noticing Caroline's slightly hoarse voice, full of concern.
"Are you okay?" she asked.
Caroline replied, "I'm fine. I'm at The Wolf Mansion now."
"You..."
Caroline continued, "Sophia, it feels so good to have parents to rely on."
Sophia's lips curled into a smile. It seemed Caroline had come to terms with herself and was accepting the Wolfs.
Now, Michael's family had nothing to do with Daniel, Mia had received her due punishment, and Daisy had lost everything. Caroline should return to the Wolfs and enjoy the love that belonged to her.
Sophia asked, "What is Nicholas's attitude?"
Caroline hesitated, "He..."
She remembered asking Nicholas in the car, and Nicholas's panicked look.
She knew Nicholas wasn't lying; he was really afraid she would leave.
But...
"Aragorn has been forcing Nicholas to marry Daisy. Nicholas has already severed ties with him and rarely goes back to The Watson Manor."
"Caroline," Sophia called her seriously.
"Hmm?"
Sophia said earnestly, "You've had a rough time, Caroline. If you still love Nicholas and he loves you back, why not make your future a bit happier?"
"Don't let the past hold you back. It's all water under the bridge. The bad guys got what they deserved, and you're a Wolf now. No one's gonna mess with you anymore."
Sophia really hoped Caroline could find happiness.
Before knowing Caroline's past, she seemed happy every day, like she had no worries. Sophia thought she was truly happy.
But after learning about her past, Sophia realized Caroline was just putting on a brave face, hiding her true feelings so she wouldn't bring anyone down.
After listening to Sophia, Caroline fell into deep thought.
After a while, she smiled.
"Sophia, I know what to do now. Thanks."
Sophia added, "We're besties, so you can spill your guts to me. If you need to vent, I'm here."
"Okay."
After hanging up, Sophia went to sleep with peace of mind.
Caroline, on the other hand, thought for half an hour before falling asleep in a daze.
The next day, Nicholas went to find Caroline and found she wasn't home.
'She was already out the door? So early?' Nicholas wondered.
Nicholas frowned. Caroline usually didn't leave so early for class.
He thought, 'Could it be...'
Nicholas entered the house using the password and went straight to Caroline's bedroom.
Everything in her room was there, but a few sets of clothes were missing from the closet.
He remembered Caroline had brought a suitcase when she returned yesterday, and the suitcase was also gone.
Nicholas's face suddenly darkened.
"Sharpe, find out where Caroline is immediately!"
'She really ran away, left me again. But no matter where she is, I will find her!' he mused.
Nicholas's hand on the armrest clenched tightly, veins bulging, a cold aura emanating from him. Sharpe immediately felt a chill and quickly made a call to instruct his people to search.
For a while, the atmosphere at places like airports and stations became tense.
They searched everywhere but couldn't find any trace of Caroline.
They even reviewed all the surveillance footage at the bus station.
Just as Nicholas was about to alert the entire city, Daniel called.
"Caroline has returned to The Wolf Mansion."
Daniel had received news that Nicholas was looking for Caroline, so he called.
Nicholas's tense heart gradually relaxed, but he became worried and nervous again.
Daniel said seriously, "Don't you think you owe me an explanation for what your father did to Caroline?"
Nicholas replied, "I have nothing to do with him anymore, Mr. Wolf. Do whatever you want."
"I want the Watson Group to collapse completely!" Daniel said directly.
The Watson Group was what Aragorn cared about the most. It would be the biggest blow to Aragorn.
'Dare to harm Caroline, Aragorn must be prepared to face the wrath of the Wolfs!' Daniel brooded.
Nicholas said without any hesitation, "Okay."
Daniel was stunned and wondered, 'Nicholas has also invested a lot of effort into the Watson Group, and he agreed so easily? Is he totally indifferent to the Watson Group going bankrupt?'
Daniel's business mind kicked in. He didn't know if Nicholas was sincere or had other plans.
But no matter what, the Watson Group had to disappear from City B.
Daniel hung up the phone, and his gloomy face immediately brightened with a smile when he saw Caroline coming downstairs.
His face changed in a flash.
