Chapter 429 Went into the Room
Josie played a couple of tunes, and Caroline helped Nicholas bandage his wound.
"I need to change clothes," Nicholas said.
Caroline glanced at his ripped pants and dirty white shirt.
Clearly, Nicholas wanted her help again.
"How have you been managing on your own these days?" Caroline asked, annoyed.
"Paul," Nicholas replied.
Caroline sighed. With Paul gone, she couldn't ask Lisa to help. Better to do it herself.
Considering Nicholas had helped her, she figured she owed him.
Caroline pushed Nicholas into the room. Josie put down her violin and watched her parents, feeling happy.
She still hoped her parents would stay together. She wanted both a mom and a dad like other kids.
Josie put away her violin and ran to the kitchen to find Lisa.
"Lisa, let me help," Josie said, eager to assist with the vegetables.
"Thanks, Josie. You should go play with your parents."
"Mom went into the room after helping Dad with his wound."
Lisa paused, then sighed lightly.
That evening, Joseph called Paul into the study for a scolding.
"The mess you made last time isn't cleaned up, and now you've sent Harper Bell to the police. Are you trying to kill me?"
Joseph was red-faced, clutching his chest in pain.
Paul had been a troublemaker since birth, causing endless problems.
In City B, the Watson family could help Paul, but in Country Y, Joseph had to work hard to establish himself. Paul's troubles only grew, and he provoked everyone.
Paul sat casually, playing with a lighter.
"She trespassed and hurt someone. I have to teach her a lesson."
"You!" Joseph took several deep breaths, trying to calm down. He glared at Paul. "You know Harper likes you. The Bell family hinted at a marriage alliance. Go to the police station, get Harper out, apologize, and tomorrow, we'll make amends with the Bell family. End of story."
Paul sneered. "Just because they want a marriage alliance, I have to agree? Stay out of my marriage, or you'll regret it."
He expected Joseph to explode, but Joseph surprisingly agreed. "Fine, if you don't like it, I'll refuse the marriage. But you're not getting any younger. It's time to have a serious date."
Paul looked at Joseph, feeling suspicious. 'Is he plotting something? Could he be secretly arranging a wedding?'
"What kind of look is that?" Joseph snapped. "I want you to start working in the company. Stop fooling around and chasing women. If you catch something, I won't care."
Paul stood up. "Don't worry, I won't catch anything even if you do."
Joseph's anger flared, and he threw a cup. Paul dodged, and the cup shattered on the floor.
As Paul walked out, Ashley grabbed him.
"Did he hurt you?"
She looked him over, worried after hearing Joseph throwing things.
"Mom, he cursed me to catch a disease," Paul said, feeling wronged.
Ashley immediately stormed off to confront Joseph.
Paul quickly stopped her. "Don't worry, I cursed him back."
Ashley touched his face. "When will you grow up?"
She also thought Paul was wrong in the Harper incident.
"Do you know he's already found a powerful marriage alliance for his illegitimate son? When his illegitimate son gets the support of the Diaz family, what will you do?" Ashley was very worried.
Her marriage with Joseph had long since decayed, and there was no love left, only a relationship maintained for benefits.
Joseph had an illegitimate son named Preston Thomas, who was now working in the company. Although Ashley had prevented Preston from holding a significant position, Joseph took Preston everywhere, making it clear that Preston might be his successor.
But Paul was supposed to be the rightful heir to the company.
Over the years, Ashley had tried several times to persuade Paul to work in the company and oust Preston.
Paul never listened and continued to cause trouble, making Preston look even better by comparison.
The Thomas family's situation was well-known in their circle, and everyone privately compared Paul with Preston. As a result, many benefits went to Preston.
Ashley was anxious.
She couldn't help but wonder ifthe estate secured for Joseph by the Watson family would be handed over to an outsider?
She couldn't accept that.
But she was powerless, only able to hold tightly to her shares, hoping Paul would grow up one day.
Ashley had always doted on Paul, and Paul knew how hard her life had been. He hugged Ashley and gently patted her back.
"Mom, let him have his marriage alliance. With his ugly face, his fiancée probably won't like him. She might even cheat on him, and that would be hilarious."
Ashley was amused by Paul and playfully slapped him.
"Don't you dare be the one she cheats with."
"Mom, I am still your son anyway. I would never do something so immoral!"
Ashley laughed and scolded, "Stinky kid."
Paul, grinning, hugged the now-relaxed Ashley and led her downstairs.
Paul had the Watson family genes, making him naturally handsome and more attractive as he grew older. Preston wasn't bad-looking either, but compared to Paul, he fell short.
After comforting Ashley, Paul was about to go out.
"Where are you going so late?" Ashley asked.
Paul grinned. "A friend's party. I'll just drop by."
"Come back early."
"Got it."
As he left, Paul heard Ashley sigh.
Once outside and in the car, Paul's smile vanished.
He took a deep look at the mansion.
Ashley, like Aragorn, was strong-willed but lacked the cunning to support it. She might lose her life in the vortex someday.
To protect Ashley, Paul couldn't tell her many things.
For example, last time he returned to the country, he disguised himself and took a taxi from the airport. The taxi got into an accident, and the driver died on the spot.
And Harper—he never told her that the house was his. 'How did she find out?' He frowned.
