Chapter 777 So Disgusting

Sophia and Colin had dinner, and Colin drove Sophia back to Fusion Dynamics Corporation.

After getting out of the car, Sophia glanced at Colin. She always felt that ever since Edith appeared, Colin seemed to be desolate.

'Could it be that only Colin has a feeling for Edith? If Edith is married, then Colin definitely has no chance.'

Sophia immediately suppressed her burgeoning curiosity.

Edith said she wanted to have a meal with Sophia and texted her the next day.

Sophia wasn't very busy recently, so she arranged a time with Edith.

That day, Sophia left work early and drove over. She had informed Gabriel in advance that she had plans for the evening.

When she arrived at the restaurant, Edith was already seated.

"This is the cake you loved the most as a child. I happened to see it on my way here and bought it. I don't know if you still like it," Edith said somewhat shyly.

Sophia smiled, "My taste hasn't changed. Thank you, Edith."

"That's good. Let's order." Edith was happy.

They ordered a few dishes, and Edith started talking about their childhood to steer the conversation.

Talking about family matters, Sophia remembered Edith's parents. Back then, when she went to see Edith, Edith's mother would always give her something to eat.

Sophia asked, "By the way, how's your mother? I haven't seen them in a long time. I'll visit them when I have time."

Edith's expression changed slightly, and she lowered her head a bit. "My dad has passed away."

Sophia was shocked. "I'm sorry."

"It's okay, it's in the past. I live with my mom now."

"What kind of work are you doing now?"

"I work at the Astor Group."

The Astor Group was founded by Edith's father. Edith was an only child, and it seemed that after her father's death, she took over the family business.

Edith briefly asked about Sophia's current situation.

She had seen that grand wedding online, and looking at Sophia now, she was a happy woman.

Edith felt gratified. The little girl who used to follow her around had grown up, and Sophia now had a happy family.

They talked about many things, from work to life, and then from life to skincare, makeup, and clothes.

Suddenly, Edith's expression changed.

"What's wrong?" Sophia worried.

"Nothing, I need to go to the restroom." Edith hurriedly got up, looking very anxious.

"Okay." Sophia looked around but didn't notice anything unusual.

Edith's expression just now clearly indicated she had seen something.

In the restroom, a man blocked Edith's way.

"What are you doing here?" The man looked displeased.

Edith frowned and said in a bad tone, "I'm here to have a meal, of course."

Jasper Murphy snorted, "Do you think I believe you? I'm warning you, don't try any tricks."

Edith didn't want to talk to him. She tried to walk past Jasper into the restroom, but Jasper grabbed her wrist.

She immediately reacted as if a fly had bitten her, trying to shake off Jasper.

Jasper staggered due to her forceful shove.

"What are you doing! Are you crazy!" he shouted.

Edith hid her hand behind her back and used her other hand to vigorously wipe the spot where Jasper had touched, feeling a wave of disgust.

Seeing Edith not speaking, Jasper's veins bulged. Remembering what had just happened, he asked her, "The woman you're dining with, is she the wife of Mr. Lancaster from the Lancaster Group?"

Edith denied, "No."

"Edith, don't try to lie to me." Jasper's eyes were sinister. "You know very well how the Astor Group's orders have been in the past six months. If there are no new orders in the second half of the year, the Astor Group will face bankruptcy and liquidation."

"You should cozy up to Mrs. Lancaster. Maybe she can put in a good word for you before Mr. Lancaster to give the Astor Group some orders. Otherwise, your father's lifetime of hard work will become nothing." Jasper said this evilly close to her ear and then immediately stepped back.

Edith clenched her fists, her eyes bloodshot, glaring at Jasper with hatred. At this moment, she had lost all the gentleness she showed in front of others.

Jasper was her husband, a sinister and disgusting man, the demon who dragged the Astor Family into hell.

Jasper walked away complacently. Not far away, a gentle-looking man joined him as he left.

Edith cupped some water in her hands and splashed it on her face.

After a long time, she calmed down and went out, her face replaced with a gentle smile.

"Sophia, it's still early. Do you want to walk around nearby?" Edith didn't want to stay here any longer, fearing that Jasper might come over and harass Sophia.

"Sure." Sophia also wanted to take a walk to digest.

While she was in the restroom, Edith had already paid the bill.

They strolled around the nearby night market, and around nine o'clock, Gabriel came to pick up Sophia.

"My husband is here, Edith. I'm heading back now. Drive safely." Sophia said.

"Okay," Edith replied.

Edith watched Sophia leave. Standing by the roadside, despite the hot weather, she felt cold.

Seeing others living a happy life always reminded her of the past, the time she spent with Colin.

A passerby accidentally bumped into her.

Edith snapped back to reality and smiled bitterly.

Indeed, when life is tough, one tended to think about the past.

But reminiscing was useless; time wouldn't turn back. Even if it did, she would still be trapped in this life, unable to escape.

She didn't want to drive. She walked slowly along the road, looking at the bustling city, the bright lights of the night, with no place that belonged to her.

After this meeting, Edith didn't contact Sophia again.

Five days later, at a business banquet, Sophia saw Edith again.

Edith was holding a wine glass, talking to a few men. The men's gazes roamed over Edith's body without restraint, but Edith wore a faint smile, as if she didn't notice their excessive gaze.

At that moment, Sophia was with Rose.

"Why is Edith here?" Rose muttered curiously.

Sophia's sharp ears caught Rose's words.

"You know Edith?" Sophia asked.

"Of course, she used to be in this circle too. Later, the Astor Family declined, and she faded out of the scene. I heard the Astor Group is in a critical state now. She shouldn't even be qualified to attend today's event." Rose explained.

Today's banquet invited elites from various fields. A small company like the Astor Group, on the brink of bankruptcy, wouldn't have received an invitation.

"What happened to the Astor Group?" Sophia asked.

She hadn't deliberately looked into Edith's family matters. That dinner was purely a reunion of old friends, and Edith hadn't revealed any difficulties to her.

Talking about this, Rose got excited. "I could talk about the Astor Group for three days and nights."

"Then just hit the highlights," Sophia said.

Rose thought about how to summarize the highlights. She felt everything was important.

"The Astor Group and the Murphy Family had an arranged marriage. Edith married Jasper. You might not know Jasper; he used to be in our circle too. Shortly after the marriage, Edith's father passed away. The Murphy Family is really disgusting." Rose said.
