Chapter 15: He is her Child
"Let go of me!" Sophia gasped in pain.
"Bang!" Gabriel slammed her against the wall for the second time.
"Sophia, don't pretend with me! Sam can't speak now, all thanks to you," he accused.
Sophia sneered, "Your son not being able to speak has nothing to do with me."
How ridiculous.
"Fine!" Gabriel suddenly laughed, his eyes cold as he stared at Sophia intensely. "Since you deny it, then you will never see him again in your lifetime. You don't deserve to be his mother."
"Who wants to... wait, what?" Sophia's pupils suddenly dilated, her mind slowly catching up. In the blink of an eye, something flashed in her mind. She grabbed Gabriel's sleeve, trembling with excitement. "What are you saying? He's not your child with Tiffany?”
Sam's little figure appeared in her mind, his handsome face resembling neither Ethan nor Emma, but a combination of her and Gabriel's features. His eyes looked just like Gabriel's, while his mouth and face shape resembled hers.
Gabriel brushed off Sophia's hand and turned away coldly.
"Gabriel, tell me if he is my child," Sophia caught up to him, this time grabbing hold of Gabriel.
She had to figure it out, what had she done if...if that child was still alive?
Five years, a whole five years of absence. As Gabriel noticed the earnest expression on her face, a doubt emerged in his mind.
Could she really be unaware of Sam's existence?
Impossible, she must be faking it! Sophia was so scheming that she would even create a depression diagnosis letter to deceive his guilt, even if she had to fake her death.
With red-rimmed eyes, Sophia clung onto Gabriel tightly. After a while, still not getting an answer, she suddenly let go of his hand and spoke with utmost certainty.
"He is my child!"
Hahaha...her child wasn't dead, he was alive and well.
At this very moment, Sophia wanted to laugh and cry at the same time, her expression contorting into an ugly and pitiful mess. Tears fell, drop by drop, onto the ground, instantly dampening the area.
She turned around and ran towards the classroom they were just in. Gabriel's heart tightened, and he instinctively followed.
He worried that Sophia would barge in, but instead, she leaned against the window, unable to take her eyes off little Sam inside.
He was so well-behaved, sitting there without moving. When the teacher asked him to write, he picked up the pen and started writing, but he refused to speak when asked to read.
In this moment, Sophia's heart felt so full, almost overflowing. Her eyes and nose were filled with a sourness.
She heard the teacher call him "Sam."
Sam, her son, who could have lived a carefree life by her side, just like Ethan and Emma.
Where did things go wrong?
She...
Initially, I thought this child was lost during a difficult childbirth. Why was he left with Gabriel?
"Ring ring ring..." The ringing of the bell signaled the end of class, and the classroom suddenly became lively as the teachers organized everyone to go out and play.
Sophia quickly wiped away her tears, eagerly anticipating Sam's emergence. However, Sam didn't come out. Instead, he remained seated, holding a pencil and drawing on a piece of paper.
All the other children ran outside to play, leaving him isolated in the classroom, immersed in his own world. The teacher seemed accustomed to this behavior.
"Sam," Sophia wanted to go inside, but she was stopped by Gabriel. "Let go of me, I want to see him," Sophia struggled.
"You denied him before, didn't you? Now you're suddenly eager, but in Sam's perception, you're already dead," Gabriel taunted coldly.
Faced with Gabriel's mockery, Sophia was momentarily stunned.
"I am his mother. I didn't know about his existence before but now that I do, I want to make up for it," Sophia pushed Gabriel away forcefully. She would never let Sam be without a mother again.
"No matter how you try to make up for it, you can't heal the damage you caused him,"
Gabriel quickly realized the situation and grabbed hold of Sophia, his eyes filled with a fierceness as if he wanted to kill her, his face crimson.
"Your presence will make him believe he is an unwanted child," Sophia's heart ached as she took a step back, her legs feeling weak. But why should Gabriel be allowed to blame all the mistakes on her? She turned her head and looked through the window at Sam, lost in his own world.
There seemed to be some sort of connection as Sam suddenly turned his head and glanced in her direction. A flicker of confusion passed through his dark, shining eyes as he stared at Sophia for a few seconds before returning to his indifference and continuing to draw.
He didn't recognize her; in his perception, she was already dead.
Sophia's heart felt as if it were being torn apart by two large hands. Unable to move her feet, she leaned against the wall, her face pale as paper.
Gabriel coldly glanced at her, thinking that she was quite the actress, performing as if it were real. It was a pity she didn't become an actress.
In a chilling tone, he warned her, "You better behave and not rashly appear in front of him. Otherwise, I won't spare you."
Sophia heard his words and glanced at him with the same indifference in her eyes. She wasn't afraid of his warning. Standing straight against the wall, she paid no attention to Gabriel.
She wasn't in a hurry to go inside and acknowledge Sam; she just stood outside silently, watching him, as if she wanted to etch his appearance into her heart.
Sam's features really resembled hers the more she looked at him, but his temperament resembled Gabriel's too much. It didn't matter; she would slowly bring happiness to Sam and fill his adorable face with more innocent smiles.
Class resumed, and the teachers coaxed the children back into the classroom. Sam also put away his drawings and began to focus on his studies. In reality, these lessons were too dull and tasteless for him.
He had long learned more stimulating things.
However, in order to reassure his father, Sam could only obediently come to kindergarten and attend classes with these childish children.
Sophia still wanted to see Sam, but she was forcibly pulled away by Gabriel with a dark expression. Once outside, she suddenly shook off Gabriel.
"I have nothing else to do, so I'll leave first." She didn't want to continue sitting in the same car with this man.
Gabriel glanced at the hand she had let go of, feeling quite annoyed. He didn't care about Sophia anymore and stepped into the car with big strides, quickly disappearing.
Sophia turned around and looked at the kindergarten, a joyful smile slowly forming on her lips.
The bad mood that Gabriel forcibly brought her back to the country with was blooming at this moment, and she even felt a bit grateful that Gabriel irrationally brought her back to the country, letting her know about Sam's existence.
Otherwise, she might have never known that her other child was still alive. Sophia took a taxi back to Vincent's house, and as soon as the two children heard the sound of the door opening, they immediately ran out of the study.
